Thanks for the little diving class details! It adds to the „neighbour flavor“ of your channel! Nice Banchan! I hope I can get that Kkaenip stuff over here. I have to ask the ajuma in my Asia Center down town!
Thanks for the great banchan recipes. I made Mapadubu last night. These would have been the best sides!!! Next time these are definitely my go to sides with some kimchee.
This looks sooo good and simple! Imma make this soon thank you for sharing. I like how relaxed and amiable enough to tell us about your travels, like a cool neighbor. Subscribed!
7:18 had this last time when i ate korean bbq and damn i fell in love but it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and ofc sweet too. It was like a turkish dish mixed with korean
Love your videos, didn't know about the powder, can't wait to try it out. Even hearing about your trip was fun too with the fish and facts haha A happy dance is the best response to good food!! You guys are cute Subscribed, keep it up!!
캐티 너무 귀워요 ㅠㅁㅠ 저도 맛있는 음식을 먹을 때 댄스해요. I was mindlessly browsing YT after new year celebrations and found your channel and it has to be fate that I found you the first day of 2020. This is going to be a good year... Thank you so much for your amazing videos. (Sorry, long story ahead, I got carried away...) I grew up literally down the street (a 3 minute walk, tops) from my childhood best friends (sisters), and I grew up in their house nearly as much as my own. They're first-gen Korean immigrants and their mom is an AMAZING cook, so I was eating 김치 and 김밥 and 순두부 찌개, etc, for a large part of my life. However, I am as white American as someone could possibly be. And I'm reaaaaally not a cook. But I spend so much time missing and longing for the Korean food that feels as homely and comforting to me as mac n cheese. I love Maangchi's channel, but her recipes always felt so out of reach to me. Too many steps, ingredients, dishes, etc. But many of your recipes are so easy and accessible that even a whitey white American like myself can make and enjoy them. I'm absolutely going to be making most of your 반찬 recipes, as well as many others. Honestly, I can't thank you enough. 진짜 감사합니다~~~!! Sorry for my random Korean, but I hate how 한글 is written in English. And it's fun, I don't get to use it often. 제 나쁜 한국어해서 미안해요. 저친구의 어머니와 이야기 위해서 한국어 배웠어요. 새해 복많이 받으세요!
I love your channel! :) Your dishes look fantastic everytime! I just received a korean cook book and the videos really pumps me to start cooking more of these banchan :)
I have seen many varieties of dried sea cucumbers, would love to know if you know how to cook them? Love all of your recipes thank you, keep up your great share.
The noodle dish is called Perilla Kalguksu (들꺠칼국수). Many Korean recipes will use anchovy-kelp as a stock broth, but you can swap it with vegetable broth or simply use kelp broth to make it 100% vegetarian ;)
Is there an option for a vegan Korean food ?most of the food in Korea I notice are mostly vegetarian however the broth used created the dish are 75- 80% meat or fish based.
Mixture of soup soy sauce, kosher salt, and strong vegan kelp stock. Make a large amount of the stock and then season little by little til it resembles the salinity of fish sauce.
hi i would like to buy the perilla powder tho the one on amazon is described as tea so im not sure its the right one. can u please provide us with a link to the right product
What can we substitute for cooking wine in recipes if we want to skip the alcohol? Religious reasons so not even a bit of alcohol can be taken :) I know Mirin is also used to get rid of the 'meat' smell, any ideas for that too? Thanks a lot for the recipes, gonna try them soon!
I love that’s this is like learning to cook with you in the kitchen together. You talk about how to cook the food but also what’s going on in your life.
The potato dish reminded me of that time BTS' Jungkook tried to cook it and it stuck to his plate like super glue... so he danced around showing it off.... My kind of potato dish, sweet, spicy, definitely going to try it.
@@FutureNeighbor I made a big pot penne pasta two days ago in a 50/50 sauce of passata & mascaporne. Added shredded boiled chicken & voila. Every 5 minutes... "is it ready yet ?". My 3 nephews scoffed the lot!
Thank you for that potato recipe! I’ve tasted something like that with baby potatoes but its too sugary and salty for me. I think this one’s just right for me 😊
Oh we have them here too. My dad especially loves them raw (like sashimi) with a little bit cho-gochujang sauce on the side. I think they taste....ok 🤷♂️ I could live without eating another one lol
@@parkminniemin5327 it really picks up the flavor of the seasonings. My dad stir fried it with Chinese seasonings & veggies. I have not had it in years.
Congratulations on your scuba diving certification! To be honest, night diving sounds terrifying to me. The potato dish looks so good. I needed a new potato dish for tonight so I will have to try it out 🙂
Night diving was a surreal experience. Completely different from day diving. We had an opportunity to shut off our flashlights and stir our hands... you could see the plankton light up green like stars in the sky. Beautiful! Though, the thought of large sea animals following u is unnerving heh 🤦♂️
Haha yea these potatoes are deceiving 🤣🤣🤣. If you reduce them too much, they start to crumble apart and mushy up. Ideally, I would have stopped my potatoes a few minutes early in the video as well 🤷♂️
Katie is me when I eat good food 😂 in korea my boyfriends mother would wait for my dance to know if her cooking was good 😂 I miss her
When you get to dancin'.... ya know that food is hitting homeee ⚾️
Future Neighbor truuuuue 🤸🏽♀️
😂😂
Omg, I already loved the video, and then Katie showed up and danced while she ate and it was SO wholesome 💓
Adorable!

Always on a mini-high after diving trips ;) Yes, go ask for deulkae-garu (들깨가루)
Thanks! I hope I pronounce that correctly! 😬
Those king oyster mushrooms were huge with lots of flesh!
Thanks for sharing your diving photos. Very cool! 🤿
You two are adorable!
The soaking onion part reminds me of making pico de gallo.
Katie’s dancing was so cute! ☺️
Thank you for sharing the different sauces and how it is used. I have seen them in the local supermarket but I have no idea what it was then.

What was the vegetarian dish you were mentioning during the first dish?

@@FutureNeighbor Thank you! I just bought some perilla oil at my local HMart last weekend to try and now I have to find perilla powder LOL

alicia amara you can always substitute veggie stock, or make a stock with kombu seaweed and daikon radish!
What can I substitute fish sauce with for vegan option? Xx
Mixture of soup soy sauce, kosher salt, and strong vegan kelp stock. Make a large amount of the stock and then season little by little til it resembles the salinity of fish sauce.
I wanna know more about your trip! 😁
Me: * gets Gordon Ramsey advert *
Me again: *NOPE!!!*
It is..ah its...Anyhow its delicious..!😂😂😂🔥
i tend to do some serious damage when braised potaters are around. at the local kbbq place, they know me.
Do we really have to put in the mirin? What if I don't it? Will the flavour's change?

Hey Misha, you can try making a substitute version. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of sugar for every 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar. Shake and store in refrigerator.
@@FutureNeighbor Thanks a lot! I'm going to make it rn :)
if you store some of Banchans in the refrigerator, do you heat them back up or do you just eat them cold
In the mornings, I will eat them cold! But for lunch, I usually warm them up on the frying pan.
@@FutureNeighbor thank you
Just FYI - Koh Phi Phi is pronounced "Pee-Pee" island - not 'fee-fee'.

Why do Asian people use onion & green onion in the same dish?
Because why not
@@deadpeach07 because they are both onions no different in taste!

They taste different! Also different texture and aromas.
