    The acoustics of this room has truly killed the magic of this song when the SUC performs this song.

      definitely not as good as the one of them in an actual performance venue doing this song, but I still got chills at certain points, so I wouldn't say the magic is entirely dead :)

    Hmmmm, I'm from Kenya and I'm probably the biggest fan of the Stellenbosch University choir... :) and i say this with so much love, your arrangement on this one was kinda disappointing. I hope you'll make a better version of this soon. Also, don't use random swahili words to replace the 'violin' parts of the song. It sounds weird from my end (being a swahili native). You'd rather use vowels. But again, always love your vocals. :P
    But hey, psst! Cape Town Youth Choir made a better version of 'Baba Yetu' back in 2013, please check it out. :)

    • @filmkelle5720

      I checked the Cape Town version. It isn't better. Powerless tenor solo, powerless drum section, arrangment doesnt use the ping-pong or question-answer possibilities of the soprano alt tenor etc groups. A choir wihtout life, without power, and the most important: without hapiness. They are concentrate, do the performance, but they are not enyoy the musicmaking. The Stellenbosch arrangment is much better. One great thing of the Stellenbosch production is, there are no any soloist, group of people singin all the time. They are a choir. Not individulas singing together. The Stellenbosch production is full of life and they could do it effortless.

      @@filmkelle5720 I'm not sure whether you're a native Swahili speaker but this didn't sound right in Swahili. No matter how happy or powerful the choir is, diction is important for the song to sound right. The UCT Choir maintained the musicality of Christopher Tin's original version hence sounds more clear and coherent. The two soloist and the fast paced tempo made it loose the gist and texture that this piece was intended for.

    • @filmkelle5720
      @filmkelle5720 4 роки тому +1

      @@kinjakariuki1089 well, I know, this text is an important pray, and thatswhy its important. But: in music, the music is the main roll. Foreg: Bartók's Bluebards Castle sung in hungarian with extraordinary bad pronounsation by foreign singers, but who cares it? Or the tschekish in the Song for the Moon in the Rusalkas. It doesnt matter. The interpretation could be georgeous with this minor problem. Or: doo wha diri dong diri dong. There is no any meaning. They create it with his/her mouth, but it isnt text. Its (only) rhytm and melody. I think this second idea acts in van Merwe's arrangment. Words without meaning. Only the replacement of instruments track. And as you can see it in the full documentary, Tin's opinion is the same: this is one of the best arragment of this piece. And as Tim, than I love it too beacuse of the following: There is no any solois-against-the-choir-like interpetation in a concerto-method. It doesnt want to reproduce the original arragment. It wants to reproduce the main music idea on a choir as a presenter apparatus. All the things done by the choir. In a fuga method. With equal power of all the participians. If you have a choir, use it. With full throttle. And van Merwe does it.
