the worst is when you ask for a price on something and they pull up eBay right in front of you and scroll through the sold listings while you're standing there watching them. It makes me feel like I should just be ordering stuff on eBay rather than shopping at that store.
They always use the CIB pristine prices on eBay and Pricecharting for the beat up lose copy with a missing label. The longtime argument that local stores used was "you can return to the store if there is a problem" has been moot for a longtime with eBay's guarantees and sellers can say "no returns" all they want but they still have to honor them. The problem with local stores has to be that there are oafs out there still buying at those inflated prices.
The real reason some game stores don't want to price games is because they want freedom to change prices quickly. From a customer perspective, this is very annoying. It also subconsciously bothers me because I feel like the store wants to rip me off and overcharge me.
I kind of like non priced games. It's easier to haggle if buying multiple. For example: There's a store in San Antonio Texas called Propaganda Palace. I bought Mario 3 and Contra on NES, and he threw in the original Nintendo sleeves.
I came across your videos about 2-3 months ago, and I must say they are quite enjoyable! No filter, no scripting, just off-the-cuff. If I ever go to FL, I am going to make it a point to store by both your store AND your bar. Keep up the good work!
It's always fun to see these videos and I think you folks run a great store. It's obviously a ton of hard work behind the scenes but I genuinely believe that work is a tremendous boon to the community, so kudos.
I feel like life is full of variables where some people like this approach and some people don't. But I am with you, because life is too short for me to want to play guessing games with strangers about what I'm willing to pay vs what they think their stuff is worth. No offense to immortals obvi.
When I walk into a store and there's no prices on the games I turn around and walk out. Just not interested in spending my day going back and forth asking for prices.
For us "Retro Gamer Girls" very happy I found your channel. Don't get me wrong I love watching Retro Rick and Pixel and all those guys but very glad we have some girl representation in the mix here on UA-cam thanks to you. 🥰
when I was growing up.u never see a girl played a game.they always make fun of guys playing a game.girls do girly things.my wife watches me never played lol
Something that escapes so many stores is pricing to keep stuff moving and keep customers coming in the door. If online pricing is say a $5 margin but that means it sits on shelves for 6 months vs $3 and it sells in 2 weeks, take the fast mover every time
Zack is my brother and I’m really glad we could sell our collection to you guys! I’ll be sure to stop by next time I come down to visit him! I absolutely loved RadBar last time I was in town. Oh and sorry about the puppy label on the gameboy camera 😂
I 100% agree on pricing games. I've never had the pleasure of going into any of these Retro Game Stores. I would want a price on everything. I don't have social media, I didn't know it was a debate lol🤘🏻👍🏻🇺🇲
I had no idea people didn’t put prices on the products in their store. If I don’t see a price, I assume it’s not for sale. Like, I wouldn’t walk into a Best Buy and grab a cardboard standee and ask them how much it costs at the register. I mean, I probably wouldn’t walk into a Best Buy regardless, but you get what I’m saying. And, on top of it, these days, I wonder if I’m getting the same price that someone else would get. I don’t mind going to toe to toe with a car salesman to try to get the best deal, but we’re talking video games here. It shouldn’t be that kind of buying experience. Great video; a lovely reminder of how nostalgic I am for the old Gameboy days. Carrying that big gray brick around with me, then slightly smaller gray bricks until the DS.
Thanks for reminding me to take the batteries out of my wiimote. Bought a loose StarFox cart at this store for my collection few years ago. Great Store, Great UA-cam Channel!
Here in Sweden they might be looking at eBay for prices and then just put the double of that on it.. really irritating, frustrating and unfair - to my wallet 😋 Haven't bought old games in years because of this.. Fun to watch you guys do your job and go through some games, I saw your shop tour yesterday, really fun also! Never seen such a nice store anywhere in Sweden, most are just cause with games thrown around.. Great to see your videos!
Thank you for pricing your items. When I'm out buying stuff, if the price isn't on there, I don't buy it or even ask for a price unless it's something that I really, really want. It's annoying and time consuming to keep asking employees to help you with a price check. I work in retail myself and I see the same from customers if there isn't a price on the items, we lose sales.
My favorite Pokemon game is probably Yellow. That special moment when pikachu starts to walk behind you for the first time, very good memories with that one. Pokemon Go is probably my second fave.
There are stores nea me that do price them, but they check the prices anyway when you go to checkout just to make sure that the prices haven't changed dramatically.
I’ve been only to handful of stores around the country with no prices on games… And to be honest, I just walked out. I’m not sitting there asking people just to watch them look em up in front of me, for that I rather go on eBay and get free returns 🤷♂️
a store owner once asked me, throw me a number for a gameboy game, so I have to price it for them...I ll start with 10 cents then, but I ll probably have to endure some extensive cursing
Im blown away to see that there actually is a Retro Game store that's predominantly female love it!! Girl power!! I support you guys!! If i was in your area i would definitely be making trips to see what retro games you got :)
I've been going to retro game stores on and off all my life since my dad use to do in the late 90s and when he would take me as a kid in southern California, at least here, I would say places the prices games tend to stick around at longer then places that want to price things to perfection according whatever benchmark they measure it by. I can't tell you how many times growing up I would go to places with no prices and i would ask the price on 5-7 things and the owner would be in a bad mood or just flat out ask me or my dad if we were even going to buy anything or just price check. Even places that don't price stuff get sick and tired of getting asked 100 times a day what something costs but I once asked a store owner, why don't just price stuff so people won't bug them and a owner just told me he didn't want to get ripped off by a customer because prices can go up. So I asked, "Why don't you just adjust prices once a month to reflect the current market?" He laughed and said that was too much work. Another place , the owner just flat out told me, " Look are you going to buy something, because I'm not going to look up prices on 10 things if you're not going to buy a least a few?" Brass tax, prices your games, it doesn't matter if it's 5 dollars or 500. I am not price sensitive and will happily pay either and most people buying this stuff might also be willing to since we tend to be in the 30-50 year range. We got a little coin to spend. But this FOMO, pressuring people only ask people on games they will actually want is a great way to get one sale from a customer and they never return because of the poor shopping experience. There are retro games stores in LA, OC, SD and SGV that have been around for 30 or more years, non of them do this. "But profit bro!" nonsense that places that don't price games do. They'll be lucky if they last a few years and the ones do last more then 2-3 years tend to prices things on 90% of what they sell and they might keep 10% unpriced because of price speculation on items that are 100 dollars or more. But these guys trying to do it on a 5-50 dollar games, get real.
My store's sales have been slow, but trades have gone through the roof. I think people are trying to make back some money after spending too much at Christmas. I totally relate with "catching up", but it never happens. I price the games because I found that people tend to shy away from buying if they have to ask for every price. The only thing I dislike is having to resticker for price adjustments.
Basic titles should always have pricing on them. the only time it's OK to not have a price on a game is if it's a super high end piece, like a graded sealed copy of Zelda or something like that where the price fluctuates massively.
When it comes to pricing then yes, everything that's standard, run of mill production, and out on the normal shelves should be priced in accordance with condition and market value. However when it comes to the ultra rare items, such as rare imports, special press copies, test copies, limited collectors editions, and all of that, then "price on request" is absolutely fine. This is a specialist market, and If I was looking to purchase a rarity then I would expect to have to ask the price, and possibly engage in a little negotiation. It's not like you'll be depriving somebody of playing a game if you have an ultra rare edition of a game sitting unpriced in the glass display case, when you have a standard edition of the same game fully priced sitting on the open shelves.
I really dig those PC versions of Halo and Battlefront. I wish I was local I would totally come grab them! I also wish I could grab that Soul Silver case from you, I've got a loose copy in my collection that's needed a case for years.
Not pricing games is dumb, i don't want to shop around for an hour just to have someone spend another 20 min looking up prices... It feels gross, and tbh I'd rather shop online than deal with that 💩
I can understand not putting a price on retro games due to it constantly changing. If it was me I would use a pricing guide and post that instead of individual price on each game. Another thing I would do is put a date inventoried on the game and the longer it doesn't sell the cheaper it gets.
If I going a store that doesn’t have prices I look around and then walk out regardless of what they have. Even if they have exactly what I’m looking for. Another thing that bothers me. Almost all retail stores do this, thankfully my local game shop does not. But I cannot stand the .99 pricing scam. Whole dollar pricing is way better.
Only place I've gone into that doesn't price their stuff is eStarland but their inventory is absolutely insane. They are almost the size of a Best Buy and yet they don't have anywhere near enough shelf space for all their games. They really only have prices on consoles sometimes and retail/new stuff. I much prefer the smaller places around here that are much more personable and have MUCH better prices.
@GibbsBro I definitely agree, it was a really cool place to see the first couple times, and for non-rare games you can get solid prices. But for anything even halfway popular their markups are insane. 2 Christmas' ago I tried to get my little bro Pokémon Yellow and they wanted 120 dollars. Needless to say I bought from Ebay instead.
I could understand putting a “market rate” on a few different items that could be very volatile, high status, etc. like you would with lobster or something. But ideally that price should still be set for the day and just be the price ready to go. Setting price on a transaction by transaction basis just feels like a whole mess of trouble waiting to strike. The chances of people going away from that interaction feeling really badly done by is way higher. Having a set price on an item is as much a protection for the sellers as it is a convenience for the buyers. So yeah, as you say, if you’re an owner you do you but if I were an owner I can’t help but imagine I’d lean toward having items priced pre-transaction.
I think stores do this out of laziness. Some stores have an inventory system that updates prices automatically, based on market rates. It should then be the job of an employee to change prices. Obviously this is a lot of work (and think of the waste of all those old price stickers) for a store as you can see the amount of inventory when you walk into a store. Some stores change the price on a scheduled period or when the price change is beyond a certain threshold.
i really dislike being in any store or whatever and not seeing prices. to me that is limiting your sales audience. that is cool that someone found out and decided to make the cool drive. congrats to the long haul driver. Yuck batter corrosion is somthing i cant stand when i open a remote or whatever and find it.
Hey, Ms. RadJunk. At the bottom of the bag that has all of those boxed PC games, including that Star Wars game, i saw there was a Grand Theft Auto IV box, which you didn’t talk about. Is that also a PC game or for what game system? I’m a huge GTA gamer.
I have never owned a store, but if the price fluctuates a lot on some of the old games I can see not pricing them from when you price it to when it sells if that is weeks later can be worth a lot more then when you did price it originally or else every so often you have to go through all inventory in store and price them again? Is haggling on prices for retro games a big thing if so no reason to put a price if they going to offer less than sticker anyways. Whatever works best for your business do that
I don't see prices fluctuate dramatically unless there is some hype around a game. Astrobot PS4 was a $10 game until a couple months ago. Some sellers have inventory systems that notify of price changes beyond a certain threshold over a period of time.
Hello Sam. It was really great working with you today 😂. Regarding the pricing of games, you said you use eBay for a rough idea of the price, but, do you not find, though, that say a game on there could be priced at $300 (which could also be a super inflated price,) but that doesn't necessarily mean they would ever be able to sell it for that. Wouldn't it be better to see what other retailers like yourselves (actual bricks and mortar stores,) are selling the same game for or do you do that aa well? But then I am not a retailer like yourselves, so maybe i have got it totally wrong? But i totally, 100% agree with you that everything should have a price on it. At least the customer knows where they stand and, as you said, having to keep asking the prices foe everything gets monotonous for you and your customers and could easily lose you a sale or sales. Thanks for another interesting video. Hello Kenna. I hope she realises she is working for the worlds greatest boss! Course she does, thats why she's applied, right? Take care, all. Sorry for the long comment. Sorry, totasky missed you saying you used eBay solds, so it does make sense. My bad. Agsin, apologies for that, i should listen better.
While we have pretty good visibility on what most places sell games for, each store has different margins and price points. Looking at ebay sold listings (specifically sold not actively listed) you can get a good idea of what people are currently paying the same game once you look at a good chunk of listings and it allows you to visually compare condition.
@RadJunk yes, that's true. I use eBay a lot for almost everything. I do find it an amazing resource for just about anything and In the 8 years I have been using it, I have very rarely been scammed. Thanks for the quick reply.
How would physical stores share their prices? That's typically something not shared. Some stores don't even like filming because of this reason. Another reason using a universally accessible platform for pricing data is that it allows you to asses price based on condition (as she stated in the video). Finally, as alluded to in her answer, while she could lower the price on games she sells, most buyers or those who do trade-ins have access to ebay and other platforms and use the pricing data there to judge what is an acceptable offer for their game. If someone sees Pokemon Silver in decent condition going for $70 on ebay, they could judge her offer based on that.
I have a rule about pricing, if it isn't priced I don't buy it (UNLESS everything else is priced in the store because things can get overlooked or tags removed)
Why pay collectors and resellers absurd prices for old games when I can just download them all (And have)? Just takes up space and collects dust. Every now and then I look over at my bookshelf and I'm oh yeah I have a game gear better go wipe it off.
We price all of our games too, if a price goes up later on I still made the margin I originally intended to and the customer gets a good deal. If the price goes down I’ll adjust it. I couldn’t imagine trying to look up prices on a busy day, that would be frustrating for me and the customer.
You could have filmed the pricing with lofi or something. In terms of the pricing, i guess stores that are hurting and need to pinch pennies and get current rates need the love pricing to avoid selling something like Deadpool after the last movie dropped
the worst is when you ask for a price on something and they pull up eBay right in front of you and scroll through the sold listings while you're standing there watching them. It makes me feel like I should just be ordering stuff on eBay rather than shopping at that store.
My local shop in town does that. It drives me nuts...If I wanted to pay eBay prices, I'd just buy on eBay...

Was just about to comment the same thing. Exactly the case...
That's what e ink price tags are for
I agree. I definitely prefer items to be priced. If I’m shopping I don’t want to ask the employees for each item.
Non priced items is the worst thing ever for anyone with social anxiety
I kind of like non priced games. It's easier to haggle if buying multiple. For example: There's a store in San Antonio Texas called Propaganda Palace. I bought Mario 3 and Contra on NES, and he threw in the original Nintendo sleeves.
I also bought a NES and he threw in Kung Fu on the deal, and a original Battleship game still in the packaging

When she dons the Dahmer glasses she means business, retro gaming business that is!

I never thought I could be so attracted to someone in Dahmer accessories
She's going to murder the competition
@@theglowcloud2215 She's crazy about retro gaming........and human flesh!

It's always fun to see these videos and I think you folks run a great store. It's obviously a ton of hard work behind the scenes but I genuinely believe that work is a tremendous boon to the community, so kudos.
Thank you!!
If I have to ask pricing on items I tend to unconsciously not buy anything.
Same!
The new haircut and dye looks great btw.
Just found your channel. Very cool. Love the chill energy. I’ll share with my retro loving buds. Thank you. Keep it up. Great!
Your channel deserves more views! I feel like I've found a special place on the Internet. I can listen to Sam all day long ❤

Dang it made me sad when I saw the games with “zack” on them :( your gonna want those back one day.
I 100% agree on pricing games. I've never had the pleasure of going into any of these Retro Game Stores. I would want a price on everything. I don't have social media, I didn't know it was a debate lol🤘🏻👍🏻🇺🇲
I went to a yard sale one time and the only price sign the guy had was one that read, "make me an offer".
I didn't.
I had no idea people didn’t put prices on the products in their store. If I don’t see a price, I assume it’s not for sale. Another great video of video games
Nice to see the resurfacing before the sale. There’s a local shop near me whose policy it is to have the customer wait while they resurface discs.
I’m so fortunate to be able call rad junk my local retro game store. Always has the best variety and friendliest staff ❤️
That’s awesome! We’re lucky to have so many great customers like you. ❤️

Convention booths are the worst at this. As soon as they go, "let me look that up" and it's obvious it's just an ebay search, I walk away.

The glasses look cool af, no reason to apologize!
I really dig those PC versions of Halo and Battlefront. I wish I was local I would totally come grab them! I also wish I could grab that Soul Silver case from you, I've got a loose copy in my collection that's needed a case for years.

"NO!" ended me, I wasn't prepared :D

You said that you're blind, but I think that you look good in glasses! Sending love from Nebraska!
Always good to see a RadJunk video. Were you guys the first owners of the store? It looks great (the bar too).
Thanks! We opened them both!
Sam, those glasses are Rad don’t apologize for being rad! 🤓 thx for sharing the content too. Keep it up 🤙
Thanks! 😎
Thank you thank you for pricing your games! My anxiety goes up when nothing is priced. I have to ask how much each thing is? No thanks!
Thank you for pricing your games. If I go into a shop and nothing is priced, I will not buy.
I wana say owners that don’t price or don’t honor their price tags have “that” aura about them almost every-time.
I can understand not putting a price on retro games due to it constantly changing. If it was me I would use a pricing guide and post that instead of individual price on each game. Another thing I would do is put a date inventoried on the game and the longer it doesn't sell the cheaper it gets.
Quick game. What is the over/under count on the "you know"?
Good to see the store, is there still snow? I lOVE RETRO!🤘🏻👍🏻🇺🇲
It’s all gone now but it was WILD!
I agree with you. I price all my games. I detest when game stores don't.

I think the glasses look pretty cool ! 👓👍
Also the gameboy return of the joker would be my favorite out of your bunch peace ✌️
Loved the video, do you deal in older retro ( Atari 2600 and similar) ?
Yep!
@RadJunk I'll definitely stop by and check it out when I'm in that area next time 😜
9:33 wow nice edit here
i really dislike being in any store or whatever and not seeing prices. to me that is limiting your sales audience. that is cool that someone found out and decided to make the cool drive. congrats to the long haul driver.
I'm sendin' yuh windshield wipers for valentines day❣🦉
wow that hair color instantly relaxed me
I have never owned a store, but if the price fluctuates a lot on some of the old games I can see not pricing them from when you price it to when it sells if that is weeks later can be worth a lot more then when you did price it originally or else every so often you have to go through all inventory in store and price them again?
I would never buy anything with no price tag. Waste of my time.
If you lovely ladies keep selling retro. There will never be a problem or controversy selling games.
You Look lovely with your glasses Sam as always 😍😎
Blue version is still the best version.
Legit the only person to make those glasses sexy 😂
I have a rule about pricing, if it isn't priced I don't buy it (UNLESS everything else is priced in the store because things can get overlooked or tags removed)
The cutie with the red hair is absolutely gorgeous 😍
I appreciate you pricing your games!
What phone are you using to shoot your vids?
We use DJI osmo pocket 3s!
Yes price your games, if I go into a game store and you start checking Ebay comps, i'm getting the
hell outta there.
Why pay collectors and resellers absurd prices for old games when I can just download them all (And have)? Just takes up space and collects dust. Every now and then I look over at my bookshelf and I'm oh yeah I have a game gear better go wipe it off.
You look amazing really suits the glasses thank you for the videos
Not pricing games/toys/collectibles is shady and scammy. Leaves it open for seller to change the price based on whatever they feel like.
Where are y'all located at?
My favorite pokemon will always be pokemon crystal, but Coliseum is a close second.
What kind of mic do you use?
We price all of our games too, if a price goes up later on I still made the margin I originally intended to and the customer gets a good deal. If the price goes down I’ll adjust it. I couldn’t imagine trying to look up prices on a busy day, that would be frustrating for me and the customer.
EXACTLY!
Definitely better priced. Also I feel like if you are going to check the price that’s kind of an invitation to haggle.
Agree I like to know the price 😅
You could have filmed the pricing with lofi or something.
In terms of the pricing, i guess stores that are hurting and need to pinch pennies and get current rates need the love pricing to avoid selling something like Deadpool after the last movie dropped
