Cosplay Worklog // Prompto #1 : Painting Vest & Pants [FFXV]

- Опубліковано 17 жов 2024
- Hey everyone! Finally part one of my Prompto worklog is ready! I've been bouncing around from piece to piece on this cosplay and filming the entire process as I go along! If all goes according to plan there will be two more parts to this set, one covering the creation of his tank, plaid undershirt and gloves. Then a final part showing the creation of the patches and assembly of them to the vest and pants.
Overall Prompto has proven to be a very interesting project because despite being a more simple cosplay (in terms of Final Fantasy standards) it is filled with all kinds of small details and lacks any sort of real 100% accurate reference photos to go from.
Either way, I hope you enjoy it and look forward to the next few parts for our Chocobo boy! I'm trying out youtube's new end screen cards as well instead of my usual outro, let me know what you think!

This is the most helpful tutorial I've seen so far! Thank you for this.
This is seriously amazing help! I'm planning on cosplaying Prompto, so this is just the best thing I could ask for!! Thank youuu!!
This was so helpful!!! I really love how the skull came out....maybe I'll be able to tackle Prompto sooner than I anticipated 😂
Your tutorial for the back of the vest design helped me tons! Cutting out those teeth were a pain in the rear though, but I'm happy with the result. I'll point anyone who asks in your direction!
Thank you so much! I'm really glad it was helpful in your process! I can agree those teeth are a huge pain but sadly the rest of the costume is equally frustrating if not more-so lol. Good luck on your Prompto!
You're a (cos) life savior! I didn't know where to start and your video totally boost me to try the leopard jeans quest èvé)9 Thanks!
Wow this is amazing can't wait for part 2
Omg thank you so much for posting this! I've been dying to find someway to create Prompto's pants cause I couldn't find them anywhere! You are a life saver Lol this look so awesome!
This is the most usefull tutorial I've ever seen ! Your video will help me a lot !
Always and forever jelly of your crafting skills! (つ^w^)つ Can't wait to see the final product in person!
I LOVE YOU, TAHNK YOU U HELPED ME SO MUCH!
Thank you for this, I just painted my vest and I think it will turn out great :3
Thats awesome! Im really glad to hear that! Painting can be really nerve-wrecking because of the "what if i mess it up?" mindset. But I was really happy with mine and I'm glad youre happy with yours!
This was so helpful because I've been low-key panicking over how to do Prompto's trousers correctly. Thank you so much! (And using the scrapbooking paper was it? Genius! )
Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful for you! I used cardstock paper but scrapbooking paper would work as well. Any type of thicker paper is best because paint will weaken it and regular paper would probably start to fall apart before you finished lol. Good luck on your prompto!
Wow you are too skilled for life!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL 😭😭😭😭
Quick question, are you using general acrylic paint? Or fabric specific paint? Thank you for such a helpful video!
Fabric paint! The brand is Fabric Creations from Hobby Lobby, they list is as a soft fabric 'ink' for some unknown reason. Its really great and have super nice pigmentation!
Awesome, thank you!
If you don’t mind me asking where’d you get the brown pants from I’ve been looking everywhere for brown pants but I can’t find any
Hello! Im so sorry for the late reply I didnt see this comment for some reason. I bought them off of ebay! I had the hardest time finding brown jeans in my size that were actual jean material but ebay had a lot of options at the time ♥
Hi! Which of the fabric ink colours did you use? I've just bought my vest; and this is my first cosplay -ever- so want to make sure I don't mess it up xD Also, if I google 'painters tape' will any do?
Hi! First off, congrats on your first cosplay! Its really exciting but terrifying right? lol. As for the paint, I used this fabric paint - bit.ly/2oUzWdl - and I used grey, black, white & brown as bases then just mixed them together to create varying levels of the colors I wanted for weathering. As for the painters blue tape, any painters tape should work just the same just make sure its actually painters tape so your paint doesnt bleed beneath it! Good luck and feel free to let me know if you need more help!
Your tutorial series is wonderful! I really appreciate you taking the time to record and put up the videos. c: If you dont mind me asking, where did you get the vest? Ive been looking on Amazon and Im not sure what to pick really?
Hi! I'm really glad you've enjoyed them and found them helpful! I actually got my vest off of Amazon coincidentally lol. I just searched "Biker Vest Black Denim" - amzn.to/2ogDWpi - and bought one that fit my price range. You may be able to find a cheaper one out of a different material if need be as I've seen many other Prompto cosplayers use all kinds of different vests. For my own cosplay I wanted to use the heavier denim to replicate the look of a real biker 'cut' as theyre called. I hope this helps!
wow havent got the game yet but got me wondering about Prompto(u??) but looks cool are the pants denim? cause i think if you use sand paper to i guess loosen the fabric it might look "worn a whole lot"?? Ahhh the wonderous things tv can teach me lol.
But still looks awesome, i like the skull and now want to try the game
Hi! Yes my pants and vest are both denim. You can use sandpaper, a dremel, and many other methods to wear you clothing even more thats right! I didnt want to do quite that much on these pieces but i have gone to town with some sandpaper before on clothing and it works pretty well (especially thicker fabrics like denim)
The link in your Description doenst work (I get a Proxy Error, for some reason¿¿) so...what's the Name/Type of Fabric paint you use? 0.0
Oh thats super weird as it works for me! Its the Fabric Creations Fabric Ink, I got it at Hobby Lobby!
Sorry if you may have already answered, but where exactly did you buy the vest? If you can recall, might sharing the link here? I can't find a good one that fits for Prompto! ;-;
Hi! I got my vest from Amazon! Its a little heavy of a denim so it makes the studding more of a challenge though. I would recommend when you search include key words like "mens black denim motorcycle vest" because Prompto is basically a wannabe biker boy with that outfit lol. Heres a link to a search result with lots of options, hopefully you can find one that fits what you'd like and your budget - amzn.to/2DLOkxM
Hey, I know it's been a while since you made this cosplay, but do you remember how much of the paint you used? I'm about to make Prompto as my first cosplay ever, and I'm not sure how much of the paint I have to buy. Also thank you for making these videos, they're going to be a great help for me :D
Hi there! I only needed one bottle of each color except for the black, i bought 2 black just to be safe! With fabric paint and shading a little goes a long way luckily! If you have to do a lot of work on the pants id recommend getting two browns as well just to be safe so you can mix different shades :)
Thanks!
this is so so helpful!! I've been stuck on what to do with his pants for the longest time XD if you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase the original brown pants?
Oh yeah the pants were a struggle because I really didnt want to paint any but I also couldn't find any in a size for me. My base brown pants were purchased on ebay! ebay.to/2npuFdl
hello I'm back! I'm getting ready to enter the bleach spraying process for the pants, and I was wondering what your bleach to water ratio was for the solution?
Hey welcome back! If youre using the same pants I did from the ebay link let me warn you now, they lift SUPER FAST. I ended up having to soak them in a brown dye bath because they turned yellow faster than I could spray bleach on them. I didnt measure my ratio but knowing how quickly they lift I would say do like 3/4 water 1/4 bleach and work quickly. Monitor it carefully! Good luck!
Oh god why didn't I think of that?? instead I bought leopard patterned pants(in purple cuz i couldnt find brown ones) so that I can color them brown and then do the weathering :') your method looks so much cheaper haha, oh well ^^; thank you so much for this video! I gives me alot of inspiration
You're very welcome! I think coloring your purple pants will be an experience all on its own so maybe it wont be so bad lol! Truthfully if I could have found leopard pants in my size I would have simply bought them, but Im really tall so it just wasnt happening that way. This method worked out pretty well but I'm going to remake them in the future and try a different paint to see if its more flexible with the denim. Wish me luck lol
I've actually tried the same method before on my Jack Frost pants and it actually worked pretty well, so thats why I'm doing the same thing now ^^ And lot's of good luck with remaking your pants aswell! I bet they will turn out great :)
what paint did you use for the weather of the jacket?
Hi! I used Fabric Inks from Hobby Lobby - bit.ly/2oUzWdl
What brand of paint did you use for the jeans? What type of paint?
Oh fabric paint, but what brand?
I used this brand! bit.ly/2vtxNGF
I’m about 3 years late but I was wondering if you still remembered where you got those jeans from! :)
Hi! I just bought brown denim jeans off of ebay! Because I was doing so much to them the base just needed to be some kind of brown that I then did bleach and paint work on top of :) So as long as they fit you should be able to make any brown pant work!
HatterInsanity thank you so much! 💫
This may sound stupid, but where did you get your vest and pants ? Lol i feel dumb now
Hi! Thats not stupid at all so dont worry! I got my base brown pants off of ebay just by searching brown skinny jeans. The vest came from amazon by searching black denim biker vest lol! Hope that helps.
Thanks alot ! It helps a bunch. Im in the middle of planning and this is actually my first cosplay. So i kinda wanna make it a memorable one .. kind of. Now i just need to practice the required craftsmanship @@!
How did you get the template for the skull? And could a possibly get a link? Thank you!
Hello! I actually vectored it myself using a screencap from the game in photoshop. However, if you google "Prompto Argentum Skull" there are many images of the skull you can trace to create a template - bit.ly/2w5VfMu
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!
^^
excuse me, would you hace the skull template? if you have it, can give me the photo please?
hi! unfortunately i didn't keep the image once I had transferred it on to paper. I just used photoshop to trace around the back of his actual vest bit.ly/2nbaMX0 If you blow that image up large enough you should be able to trace it like I did!
You still have the image for your motive leopard? You can send it ^-^ ?
Hi! For the leopard print I just used an image via google - bit.ly/2uTlUbS - and then just made 4 different templates and alternated them around the pants to add variety!
HatterInsanity Thanks **
It would be great if you would put links to your patterns into the infobox
Hi! For Prompto there werent really any patterns since the vest and pants were purchased and altered. For the plaid underpart of the vest I just folded the vest in half and traced around it, extending the bottom several inches and adding seam allowance at the neck, front and arm holes so i could tuck under the edges and hide them. I am planning to link patterns in a worklog in progress right now so im glad to know thats something that will be helpful!
HatterInsanity sorry, I actually meant the ones for the patches 😁
Oh! lol. Well since I designed these patches myself off of my own screenshots I added some details that are custom to me. It took me a couple of weeks to get them right so I wont be sharing them unfortunately as they patterns are for my own cosplay. However, there are tons of patches for sale on sites like Etsy and even some image vectors you can get by googling. I hope that helps, thank :)!
What color paint did you use on the vest?
Hi there! I actually mixed different shades of grey and brown using this paint - bit.ly/2vtxNGF - I bought it in Black, Grey, White & Brown. Because my vest material is more cool toned I mostly stuck with greys for the shading and weathering, adding a bit of brown at the end for a more dirty/worn kind of look. If your vest is more warm toned you can just use browns and such if you'd like. Good luck!
