- We are coming along with the house build and I had to get this deck done before the siding guys got to this side of the house. I think this deck turned out great and I am really happy with it. In a future video I will make the rails and steps too. I hope this video helps you if you are wanting to do a diy deck or porch at your house. if you have question leave a comment.

@@oxintheshop your deck has inspired me to build a deck with cover for my own house ,where is the best source that i can get some structural information ?, the area is 11x 4 meter , so i need to find out about number of concrete footing , ideal size of joist , post , ledger board ,and rafters etc.. any information will be greatly appreciated.cheers mate
Love it. Good job dude.
Thanks a lot glad you like it

Nice work!
Thanks Michael I think it was pretty good for the first deck I have built
Looking better and better every day guys!
Thanks Gary
Great job
Thanks
The porches on many old houses are designed with "camber." Dropping the outer edge down an inch lower than where it meets the house is hardly perceptible, but it drains water than might be blown onto the decking which prevents rot. Probably not a big deal in Georgia, but in New England where ice and snow can be blown onto the porch it explains why old porches last 125 years or more without rotting out while new pressure treated porches fair much poorer. Wooden ships were designed that way for the same reason.
Thanks for the comment. I get that up north and that makes sense. So far the rain has had no problems draining I’m actually sitting on it right now trying to get myself to walk the 150 ft to the shop lol
Nice work❤
Thank you! 😊
Hey Drew, just found you and subscribed. Hope Xmas has been a blast for you. Fellow Georgian here and I lived in your town years ago, Gods country!
Awesome Bobby thanks for subscribe
What town are you in. I’m doing my own build just north of Thomasville.
@@anthonymccoy4460 I'm in Newnan.
good information
Thanks glad to help
Go dawgs!

I really appreciate the time you took to put this video together. Thumbs up! Now that it's been complete for a few months, is there anything you would have done differently?
It has been done since the summer and the the only thing I would do different is use screw for the deck boards but still level and holding up great

Thanks for replying! Very helpful video.
Don't down on your work, you did a great job thanks to UA-cam!
Thanks glad you liked it and thanks for the positivity
Hey there, Drew! Hope you are doing well, sir...and looking forward to more content soon.
I hope I can post something soon just need to sit at the computer for a bit
You should have put some short rebar pieces in the concrete mounting blocks for the posts. It keeps them from cracking and splitting.. Besides that, great work
Thanks
Pink fiberglass rebar is the best so your rebar won't rust and eventually crack your pillars. 5000 Quik cement is the best for pillars
They sale spacers that you can screw on behind the ledger board to create that gap, eliminate the drip cap
helpful video. i think the metal flashing should be installed above the ledger, though, not below it. also i've heard that metal flashing should not come in contact with the treated wood as it will cause a chemical reaction and make the flashing deteriorate.
The metal is above and below
@@oxintheshop That should work!
Great job Sir. Looks awesome. My wife would love something like this! Will definitely add it to my 2021 projects list. How much did you spend on this particular project? Be safe and God Bless..
Thanks not really sure now this far away from the build I think around $1200
What is the point of a drip cap if the ledger board is installed over it ?
wish i could do all that,i think it would be hard because i have very few tools. a lot of work for sure
You can do a lot with few tools now days
Thank you for your response.... It's my first comment .and my first response from you...
Awesome I try to comment back to everyone
I like covered deck how much does it cost
great workmanship, all it needs now is a green egg and a cooler
I got the cooler you buy the green egg? Deal? Lol
Hey drew I started my yt channel
And I wanted to say thanks for the Ox in the shop sticker if I did not already
Everything about this deck was what i was looking for! I couldnt watch it however because if the added music, sorry
Great job 👏 I have a question size joist did you use ?
2x8
A couple questions now that it’s been up for a few months (not a critique, just trying to plan a covered deck myself). Since there weren’t any blocking inserted, or I’d range supports, do you feel that the porch is stable enough or is there a “bounce” when it is walked on? Also, looking back, would you still have used 2*6’s or would you have preferred composite decking?
Deck is still as strong as day one. I would use screws if I went back just was trying to use what I had at the time and for speed. I would use composite if I had that kind of dough but it would have been $20 or so per board rather than $6-$8 per board
Great Video! How far are your posts spaced? Are they 6x6?
8 ft and yes
How do you align the ledger board and the first post that you put the corner post?
Not sure I understand your question
How long did u let concrete cure before installing the wedge anchors?
48 hours
We are planning on doing something similar to this. It looks great! My question is are you considering covering the bottom or leaving it as is?
Do you have any ideas if we want to cover ours? Thank you!
Yes I am going to cover it but not sure yet on how the wife wants it she does not like the lattice
@Justin Drew definitely, have been watching on Flixzone for since november myself :)
@Justin Drew definitely, I have been watching on Flixzone for since november myself =)
Is any other easy way for erecting the post without making the concrete slab ?.
You could use those concrete blocks but if it is holding a roof you need to dig the footing like I did. This to me is the best way and strongest
Hi is your header board resting on 2x4's in the wall or just nailed to the outside sheathing ?
You mean the ledger board? It was nailed to the sheathing first to hold in place then came back and used lag bolts to attach to every 2x6 stud two lags per
What’s the point of the drip edge being on the bottom of the ledger? Shouldn’t it be on the top?
It is on both
First!!!
Lol yup you are
Is that 10 ft long? Any consideration given to blocking?
No after watching tons of video and looking a code it didn’t have to have it. From house to outside of the beam is just about 9
Hey what are the actual dimensions of your deck , how long were your joists?
38x8.5
I find it comical that he has a massive tractor to do the digging, but still mixes his concrete by hand 😂😂
Mixing concrete by hand is WAYYY easier than drilling those holes
How much was the cost on materials on that deck?
I can’t remember off the top of my head but I bought all of that before things got crazy
Hows the porch holding up?
Doing awesome and it has been 3 year need to put a sealant on it still haven’t done that and still doing great.
dude... my channel exploded
That is awesome congrats. Making the big bucks now.
@@oxintheshop oh yeah just rolling in it. Almost breaking even on the food
What was the cost?
Can’t remember and I built before stuff got crazy
Drip caps go on top of the ledger board to protect water from get ting in behind of the ledger board! Putting it at the bottom does absolutely nothing for routing water away from the ledger board! DRIPCAP!!! Please fyi guys don't do this.
Drip cap is on top and bottom please watch the video my friend
1 minute of commercial before it even starts......turn off..
Gezz can’t help that. It is UA-cam that’s what they do. Pay for UA-cam red and you won’t have to watch that stuff
Safety first on the rip cut huh?
What do you mean? Don’t remember what I did it was a while back
