You are definitely a high-quality contractor. You take great care in building the porch to make it perfect… I am definitely impressed! Can’t wait to see the next video….thanks…
RR.. you should start including the outtakes/bloopers at the end of each of your videos :) Would show the world we are all human. Love your content and keep those vids coming!
Did you notice how Greg placed the boxes very neatly and square against the house at the beginning? A perfectionist. That’s why those guys work well together.
I read the entire Ryan's ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan's Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan's Shed Plans.
I know y'all have done these porch videos before but I always enjoy watching them anything to do with framing and exterior siding and trim work. Thanks
I've heard people argue that all the prep, math and layout is a waste of time but they don't get to reap the reward of finishing the build that is square and exactly what it needs to be. Too many times I have had to help cut custom pieces for every sheet because the person in charge didn't want to take the time to layout properly. Its delayed vs instant gratification and I think in the end your way is faster and produces a better product.
that's amazing! I never would have thought 42 years ago that they would make a circular saw that could cut through four 2x's at one time! Any time dad and I cut big cedar beams, we would do our best to line up the cuts when we would flip a beam to cut through the other half! You could always tell when you done it that you had to make a second cut; it was never perfect.
Nothing like having the right tools for the job... makes things so much easier. Your typical DIYer has a much tougher time taking on a project like this, but good, informative video.
Great vid Kyle n Greg and also props to the camera guy👍👍.. Didn't felt like a long video at all.... Thanks again for sharing all your work experience with us, there's always something good to learn from. I wish all bosses were like you Kyle!!!!!! 👍💯👍
I would go to bars more if they played videos like this. I just wanna be hammered while I learn about pro craftsmanship in a high quality and entertaining way 👍🏼
I enjoyed the video of course, but I was really impressed with the videographer, well done 👍 it was like watching a PBS episode of “ This Old House “ Kyle your the new Norm and Bob Silva combined
Hay Kyle: yesterday I saw these guy's building a barn dominium, I thought it was you guys. they were using the same materials and tools like you do. I said to my self. No way it's not Kyle and Greg. I said hell no, I'm not watching those guys. I watch the real thing. Thanks for your vlogs. I saw them guys and felt a weird way like some one stole something from me. 😄
A couple of questions: 1: Why not do a ledger board at the house for the rafters to frame into? Maybe overkill but would be easier to frame (for me a least). 2) why a 2x12 rafter for such a small span? (A 2x6 would work) #3: the porch roof is too close to the higher roof - looks awkward and how in the world did you attach the sheathing and roofing under the higher roof? Enjoy your videos and appreciate your level to detail.
I am concrete on floating slab @ 20+" above grade (the house was set 5 ft above grade and back-filled 3 ft - due to a high water table). There is no basement. One quote person told me that I will get leaks and rot if I don't put my porch level 2" above grade (ugly patio). It's all concrete below 16-18". I just want a porch slightly below my sill that could've been installed in the first place. I think that if drainage is proper, there should not be a problem.
Hello RR, Your videos and channel in general, brine EXCELLENT information! If it's no bother, please.... Could you tell me, what types of timbers did you use in this porch for: the columns, beams, joist, rafters and eaves?
For light structures such as your porch uplift forces due to wind often will control the design so your column bases and the anchoring to the concrete is important.
You need a ladder 2’ higher. Also get that ladder closer to work point. That leaning and stretching along with being too high up shorter ladder can get you. All it takes is 1 bad fall.
@rrbuilders- hey kyle, i have asked this question a few times. Can you please explain, when you are calling out "grade", such as on that concrete patio and this porch. Where and how are determining your grade point, then level? I can only assume that the porch you are working on has a slight slope for water to run off, but i see that your laser (180) is near or at the middle of the porch. So one part, near the house has to be higher then the outside edge. All of that seems a bit confusing. How do you determine where you are setting that laser/grade? This is all new to me. Have been in construction for 20 years, but have never ran one of these. Always just showed up and started banging nails. All the grade work had already been done. We live on a farm, i will be purchasing this laser set up as it will come in handy on many projects for the future.
we are adding a porch to an existing post frame, we are going to take the metal off, and replace it with some type of siding. when they do the concrete floor we need to have the metal off first?
Nice one👏 Awesome... How old this now that little green hitachi now?? Looks like still work with no problems... Should have some tool review, how you think tools work over the years of use maybe 🤔 Hey happy Easter you two🤝

Love that long audio Crossfade of the impact driver. Made me really happy.
I’m basing my porch build off this with a few twists. Thanks for all these videos. You guys are the real deal.

Perfect job guys, I am amazed of your workmanship and how good you guys are!!!!!!!🎉🎉
I would go to bars more if they played videos like this.

Having the right tools is key
Awesome work! I wish more contractors dialed in the details like you do.
What a great job you guys did! Very impressive!

Took that 12” like nothing. Classic.
Missed the obligatory "That's what she said" comment 😛
The look on your face after you said it! 😂
I was expecting Greg to say something like “like your mom” 😂
I'm pretty sure you can't say that on UA-cam kyle
That would of been classic if Greg would of said that.@@kickyourfaceandlaugh607
Great job Enjoyed it. Thanks.
It would be nice to see the end result... the content was great, and I was looking forward to the end product...

I put down woven 12' sub-base fabric on the dirt to keep out of the mud. Landscape staples to hold the fabric from shifting too much.
It will be nice for the family to make memories in a house that will endure for decades, if not centuries.
Really enjoyed the comment as you went along. Good job. That big saw, tho.

So helpful, especially if you are just estimating a job.
Those GRK screws are the best, expensive mind you but worth the extra money!
Come on guys.. wear some safety glasses. Love your channel
😂
Great information on the 2x12 ill try it on my next one.
Lol I drive by that place everyday crazy to see it on UA-cam
Great job, love your attention to detail. Would love to have your skills.
Very inspiring for my next building porch.
This guy is spot on with his work. Anyone who says he doesn’t know what he’s doing is higher the giraffe balls
Always fun watching you guys build. Give Greg a mic lol

Great work! At the wall, is that a longer nail at a diagonal on the rafter hangers?
GOOD AFTERNOON & HAPPY EASTER
Great video mate. Could you have not gotten away with a 6” rafter?
I was thinking the same thing because it's only an 8 foot span. The roof pitch is shallow, so maybe 2x8.
Great video. You have great skills.
Great video and detail. What is the advantages/disadvantages of framing with purlins vs 16/24 oc roof rafters? Thanks
Awesome job brother
I’m going to start counting how many times Kyle says Greg in each video. 😂

Beautiful video and a professional job.
You need to explain the reason for non granular, in East Texas they put metal roof over old shingle roofs.??? Right on top of shingles.
Poor decision
Gawddamn! Now that’s a skill saw
Nice job 👍
I like the cedar posts too.

Hey happy Easter you two🤝
I really like that Martinez framing square, where can we get one???
kyle. you should invest in a Dewalt laser tape measure I recently bought 1 and they are well worth the money
Where would i look to find a job doing work like this in Texas? This stuff is exciting to me
