Sounds and looks great but not many people played like that in 1959 😎
I was gonna say same thing Dick Dale and Buddy Holly sure never sounded like that, and old Blues guys were playing Kay guitars they ordered from the sears catalog😊
@@BrianNatonski-wt3mvSo true.
And wasn't SRV's guitar actually a 62 with a 59 neck? ;0). Just a bit of fun. I love the way Matthew plays.
Just my opinion, but is it really about how players played back in the day? Isn't it more important that the tones of vintage instruments still inspire todays musicians despite 65 years of insanely rapid technological advancements? Please don't mistake this comment as an opportunity to troll. That isn't my intention. Just talking guitar.
@@Jakexx01 I think any electric guitar was still a bit of a novelty in 1959; there weren’t many to compare tones etc…it was more about the volume; my dad, who played til he passed at 95, used to be part of the ‘guitar section’ in the ‘30s & ‘40s; 3 or 4 acoustics in a semi circle around the upright bass all banging out the same chords…to paraphrase Chuck Berry, ‘as soon as I realized I could make as much noise with an electric guitar, I fired my horn section’. The young George Harrison wanted a Strat because he’d never seen a guitar as cool as Buddy Holly’s; I’ll agree that, as creative players discovered the unique sounds you could get from a Stratocaster, playing evolved into Eldon Shamblin (look him up), Hank Marvin, Jimi Hendrix, & Eric Clapton then to this guy in the video…I tell my students and uninitiated that the secret of the Strat is the neck pickup; it took me a while to fully appreciate that guitar but now, after playing 60 years (!), it has been my # 1 axe for the last couple decades
This is THE SRV tone for when you just want relax on the sofa with a scotch. Just the way it was meant to be.
More like Jeff Beck on Blow By Blow
Gorgeous tone and beautiful playing.
that is glassy in a way that is so hard to replicate! sounds amazing
I hearing a little SRV. Love the beautiful sound.
I could just leave this smoothness playing on loop all day. Man, that's sweet!
I've been watching your UA-cam channel for years. Great stuff. Keep it up.
I could listen to this for hours.
I could listen to you play that thing for hours
A little SRV in that tone, I think and it’s hauntingly beautiful 🙏🏼🙌✝️
Man, you are playing the hell out of that guitar! So so smooth!
Great playing. Phenomenal tone. Very cool
So sweet and gentle yet charming and steamy at the same time 🎶🔥
Thats some Robert Cray shit right there
Uh….. Mr. Cray uses a hard tail Signature Strat…… zero tremolo.
@@stevestanley6090 its about the playing, duh..
@@NERDOFUNK and wiring of the out of phase single coil pickups on the American made hard-tail Robert Cray signature Stratocaster. Duh
@@stevestanley6090 which only interacts in the "2" and "4" position, Neck, Middl, Bridge uneffected...duh
Been following you for a couple years..keep it up Matthew...

You play with so much feeling. Loved it!!

Part of that tone is built by the killer pre-CBS Super Reverb that is lurking in the shadows! Love your sound, Matt!

That Classic 50s Start Sound
A beautiful sounding 59Fender Stratocaster and played with real heart and soul. Thank you so much Matthew.. Now I have a favour to ask you. Is there anyway you could make the date of recordings like this available for your audience on YT. I ask you because I believe this kind of content should be fully dated for documentation purposes(especially on Shorts) .. Thanks again and dont stop playing that guitar..
I saw his concert...oh boy he is amazing and a terrifying guitarist ❤

Straight SRV vibes dude
Fantastic tone
Very good Solid body electric guitar player. Thanks to Leo Fender from us all, for this invention ❤
Finally somebody on the you tube that plays with feeling not with attitude I’m so sick of these guys shredding and playing fast just to impress and stroke their egocentric narcissistic minds.this was well played.
Never thought I’d own a pre CBS Fender guitar but I bought a CAR 63 DuoSonic for under $800 at a pawn shop.
Those mods are to die for, bliss, pure and that amp ain’t bad either 💰
Indeed.....
Beautiful 🔥
Yes!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉😊😊😊
So Cool
Between 1950 and 1969, those old guitars are very desirable today because not many new guitar makers today can't duplicate the sound.
Spectacular 👍
Superb !
Smooth 😊
So good dude
I just hear SRV, i love it
I liked it
Nice.
Sweet as usual.
Hell yeah bro
Not as brittle & glassy as some, possibly due to the rosewood neck.
Perfect for blues.
That's sweet!
That's the sound, SRV , HENDRIX AND CLAPTON LOOKED FOR BEAUTIFUL HIPNOTIC
Not a hard tail but that’s a smoking gun. You’re a strong persuader.
Yes Sir!!!
That sounds Glorious beautiful soothing tones that penetrate to the soul! Well done Mathew any news on the Junior repair?
Sounds like BB King and SRV beautifully mixed together.

Beautiful bro
Wish I could get a clean sound like that out of my line 6
This guy is well talented...makes his Fender Strat. Talk. Inspired. Chuck, Jax, FL.

Hey Mathew! If possible could you do a video that explains your picking hand position. If you anchor it ever, etc. I love your playing and wish to sound like you one day! Thanks.
