There's a reality to knife attacks. Knives make no noise when you use them, they are lethal, and are quite easy to procure. Also, they travel very fast when being used and can certainly be fatal, whether they be big or small.
Having said that, the damage a knife can cost is great and can cause you your life, which is why it's important to be aware of your opponent and understand that he can pull one out at any moment and attack you.
Some videos portray a knife attack with an opponent who plays around with the knife before striking at their victim. This is an inaccurate description of a knife fight.
An attacker would never pull out a knife and show it to you, allowing you to become aware of the fact he has one in his hands. He would not let you be aware until it's too late.
A real knife attack has the following events that occur, usually:
    • An attacker comes out of nowhere, prepared to hurt you.
    • His hand is usually not displayed, which immediately makes one assume he is carrying a weapon.
    • He strikes out of nowhere with a knife and begins to stab with speed.
Due to adrenaline, if you do get stabbed you might not even realize it. The only thing you'll probably be aware of is your attacker's hands performing the stabbing movement. Most knife attacks are very dynamic, happening so quickly you'll least expect it.
Quite frankly, whether it's a skilled knife attacker or just a psychopath with a blade in his hands, you need to be aware and prepared to fight back. Anyone can be dangerous carrying a knife; You don't need to be an expert to kill someone with one.
Having said that, we have other knife videos with numerous different scenarios, attackers, etc. with tips on how to survive, whether it be by diffusing the situation or fighting back to stay alive.

X Infinity I think that would be difficult to do if you're up against someone who's trained. But if if forced to, personally I would move in on the attacker and get in close range in order to nullify his advantage.

One thing to note is that for all you brave strong fighters know this. Train too run. When that moment where you know for a fact that your done and you see an escape way. Run. Learn some moves, climb, I think it is called parkour or something like that. Train to fight, train to run too. Your not a pussy if you run. You are a wise man that will walk and breathe another day

I have been screaming about this since the 1980s. There is no such thing as a defense against a knife attack. There are only options to mitigate the damage. If you cannot run away, and you are forced to face an attacker with a knife, you are going to get cut. It's as simple as that. Learn how to mitigate wounds so they are not fatal. Don't believe me? Give someone a marker and tell them to attack you. You will be covered with marks. The goal of surviving a knife attack is not to come through unscathed, but to simply survive and treat your wounds.

Viktor Stein I do not understand why running is turned into a joke?If I am being attacked with a knife, why would I run? There is nothing cowardly about retreating. This is Not a freakin John Wayne movie.Retreat is no disgrace.Better to retreat from a better armed opponent than fight and die.If I have advanced warning, like a knife is put to my back or a gun and its hands up,I'll attack the opponent Only because the odds of my getting away without being shot or stabbed are very good and pretty much the same for forward hands up situations.That's.about it.If someone has me in a headlock and is stabbing me then I must fight because its all I can do.I will go apewire and go for any part of him I can.I will jump and kick and punch and do anything to live.I know from past experience that adrenalin can give me amazing speed and power.I will let my fear turn into crazed rage. This is from limited past experience.I am very good at evading and diffusing dangerous situations so I don't end up fighting.Sometimes a lion just roars and thats quite enough.I've done similarly.Scare the attackers off.The best fight does NOT actually occur.Think about that.Peace.

Im a Karate 1 Dan and i have over 12 years of military experience and 8 of those have been in hot areas. About 2 years back while is was on a patrol in irac i got rushed by a man who stabbed me 3 or 4 times in less than 2 seconds before my teammate could tackle him.I was saved by my ballistic plates on my vest, without that, i would probably be dead and wouldnt even know how it happened. My experience counted for nothing, i couldnt even react during the attack and im 6.3ft tall and 210 pounds.Metatron is right, martial arts teach a lot of BS when it comes to self defense. Reduce risky behaviours, train your spatial awareness (like looking out for thugs loitering at car parks), and if at all possible stay out of dangerous areas especially at night.

Actually without the plates you would most likely survive.
According to studies knife attacks only have a 0-4% mortality rate.
If you only consider cases where the victim has non-superficial wounds or wounds severe enough to enter the TARN database the mortality rate is still only 5-6%
On battlefields the mortality rate is 1%

Theres no such thing as a knife fight. This is bullshit. If you dont have a gun and someone shows you a blade or a knife, whatever, just run away the fastest as you can. Knife attacks are extremelly lethal and, in real world, theres no filipino art or training that will prepare you for such an extremelly dangerous situation. Its all about being fully commited to survive (run, scape) or killing, in the second option accepting that you will have enourmos chances of getting hurt or murdered. Even if you have a knife and your oponent has one too and you can scape running, just do it man. Be a coward and live another day, I can guarantee you that you will be doing the best option of your life by not trying to practice krav maga or sword fighting against someone you dont know. Dont take the risk, chances are huge that you will die or get severelly injured, and if you kill your opponent with a knife, you will much likely become severelly traumatized and could even face prison, since doing self-defense envolving knives and murdering someone are two things separated by a very thin line when it comes to knives being used. Its really an very ugly and bad experience without any chance of having a good end. Or you die, or you get seriously wounded, or you get traumas that will haunt or you will face very serious judicial problems. So getting involved in this messy situation requires a very serious reason. But if you are cornered and you cant run, if your family and your loved ones are at grave and iminent risk, if your survival depends exclusivelly on fighting, forget about being stabed on your arm, belly or legs. Theres no martial art that can teach people this single rule: if you are willing to react with a blade on your hand, dont try to fight as if you were on a knights fight. Embrace the most instinctive madness in yourself, unleash the suicidal and monstruous beast inside you, forget about being afraid of dying and simply go full-mode on slashing, killing and cutting into pieces your opponent. Dont stop hitting until he becomes unrecognizable. But remember, if you are not a psycho, you will be traumatized forever. Theres no such thing as "knife fight". Whats there is initial initiative and the one who attacks first, will probably win. If thats the case, you will need to use your arms or hands to protect your neck, head and chest, then strike the neck of your oponent. If you strike the neck of your agressor, hes done. He will drop unconscious in less than a minute, but the shock will be so immense, that he will be uncapable to keep charging you. I saw once a friend, may God be with him, being hit in the neck by a broken bottle. He fell unconcious, trying to press the fatal wound, to the floor in less than 30 seconds and he couldnt react because the intense loss of blood will make your brain colapse almost instantly. He probably died in 3 to 5 minutes with his body encircled by so much blood. Jesus! Just to remember I feel so depressed and traumatized. Fight with a knife and you die. Only use it if you have only one thing in mind: killing. It comes down to who have more will and guts to kill. The moment you prepare to defend yourself against an attacker with a blade, you have already been hit by multiple strikes. Unless you have not a single chance of scaping, simply look at your enemy with that blade/gun, dont be afraid to be stabed or shot, just do whatever you can to cut his throat and dont stop hiting him. Surviving in a knife/blade fight its all about the one who has the higher initiative and will to kill/dilacerate the enemy. But remember one thing: even if you kill your opponent with your or his blade, you will be haunted by the rest of your life with this event. His horrified look seconds before his death will chase you in your nightmares. So, if I could give some prudent advice to people who think they can "fight" with a knife, unless you really have no scape and your family is in danger, please dont. Run away if the situation allows it, give all your money if its an theft trying to rob you and stay calm if he only wants your stuff. Remember that these people who steal are usually high on stimulant drugs, so they have an serious advantage against you. But if you have no way out but to "fight", go for a direct and decisive strike: his jugular. Its a relative big target and when cut, he will not be able to keep striking because of the jet of blood going out of his neck. He will naturally pannick and go into shock, lose control of his body and fall to the ground in less than a minute. Hitting the neck is the real thing, the rest is pure bullshit.

That's why God gave us TWO LEGS, and TWO EYES and we were also given a set of BRAIN, with it we can use our common sense. What do you do then?? Would you just stand there and stare at the attacker while he tries to grab you and stab you???
Of course, you will not do that ! You won't give the attacker an oppurtunity to come close to you unless you got so scared and you can't move (then you're fucked !).
You may step back or run to give yourself time and to create a distance to draw your gun. Only the dumb people or the ones who doesn't know how to use their common sense are the ones that usually gets victimized and gets stabbed !

Years ago a friend of mine got stabbed in the gut during a gang fight.! Only AFTHER the fight he turned to us asking : "Did I just got knived.??", We assured him he was ( A shitload of blood drenched his T-shirt ànd his jeans) ! Ten minutes later we ALL tought he would die... Fortunally, he survived as we got to the hospital in time. At the trial we found out it was a 2 inch, cheap piece of crap... Yet dangerous enough to nearly kill a guy.! I'm not a coward, but if a knife is pulled on MY Ass and I got nothing... It's time to get a lot More friendly.!

my "head teacher", a worldwide accepted 10th degree FMA told us different storys what he saw in life. In Thailand he saw a fight between an unarmed man and a knife attacker. The knife man stabs and stabs and the unarmend man punches and punches. After the fight the knifeman was smacked and KOed and the unarmed man falls on the ground. In Hospital they counted 20 stab wounds but he survived. While the fight he dont realise the stabs....

I kinda get where you're coming from but it lacks a distinction between a knife fight and a knife attack. For a knife attack in a street or a club, you're totally right, but if both parties have knives then you absolutely will see people be a lot more wary and a lot less willing to charge in. It's just that a knife fight scenario like that is highly unlikely outside of being in some kind of special forces
The other thing thats worth saying is that in a knife attack, being stabbed doesn't mean you lose. That person is gonna keep on stabbing you and you should try stop them for as long as you can. It's often quite surprising just how long people can fight with a dozen stab wounds. Someone starts stabbing you and you need to basically give up on coming out unharmed and just do your best to come out alive

This is a great video. I know of someone who went through all the martial arts to disarm a knife and when we did a scenario where I come in with a knife to stab him, none of the martial arts actually worked because of the dynamic of the attack. I truly believe someone coming up to me with a knife is much more dangerous than if they approach me with a gun because of this dynamic attacking pattern.

Knives are terrible for self-defense for the same reasons. Easily, randomly lethal, yet bad at actually disarming an adversary. Lots of time to kill, or be killed, before the stabbing victim goes off and dies of internal bleeding two or three hours later. Comply, distract, divert, run like hell is about as much real-world training skill civilians need to survive. Stand, fight, get cut and die slowly is the hero's option.

Two things that would probably help you in this scenario is having some form of physical protection like a stab vest or just thick clothing and opening your eyes. Your eyes are what's going to save you, because as long as you cannot see the threat, you are completely helpless. The gun or weapon you keep on you will do nothing if you get shot or stabbed while you're on your phone.

A knife will come out when it's being put into your torso and at that point, once you are being grappled and stabbed to death you're life is really in their hands.

No winners in a knife fight, both get cut up. And you loud talking

of what I'm about to do, and I'll close that distance and stick you at

They want to win without any danger for themselves, but when the "victim" has a knife too they are both on the same level...thats not what a knife attacker wants.

In streetfights the number 1 key is and always will be your surroundings. Different environments and situations call for different action. If someone has a knife in their hand and if you must fight and they are attacking you, your number one priority is getting that knife out of his or her hands as quickly and efficiently as possible. If someone is really out to get you, theyre most likely gonna be holding on to that knife pretty darn tightly & simply grabbing it or wristlocking it away first might be the best solution. I would elbow them as quickly and as hard as possible to the wrist. They hurts really bad, they wont be able to take the pain and will let go from shock. Even if they dont let go you can wrist lock it out they wont be able to hold on to the knife anymore out of pain. Getting elbowed to the wrist is excruciating and hurts really bad. The top of the wrist is a huge pressure point and when shattered no one can withstand it no matter what size you are.

Remember that no two scenarios are the same. Like they said in the video, you will already be stabbed several times before you can register what's happening, giving you little time to react. 99% of the time, you'll want to run like hell without confronting the attacker. The only reason to fight back would be if he is threatening someone you love. Otherwise, it is better to run away and live another day.

These videos are dangerous for one siimple reason...I don't care how much training anybody has had...against a guy with a knife he has only one way out and that is to RUN....a guy who is going to stab you will not show you the knife, that's the first thing and second when he does start stabbing he will be thrusting the blade into your torso at a speed where even the fastest hands can not handle the speed of the thrusts and third...if you think that you've been learning some martial art and that you can disarm a guy who is savagely stabbing you you're wrong and you run a serious risk of death...so please whenever confronted with a guy with a knife just RUN because it's your only chance unless you have to stay and hold your ground to defend a loved one like your child, spouse or a good friend. Police officers with a firearm and who have been trained in these scenarios end up getting killed by people with a knife unless they see the knife and the assailant is at least 10 to 15 feet away from the officer...tests have shown that the officer by the time he has his gun pulled out he has already been stabbed at least once by an assailant who is 15 feet away. So DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE VIDEOS....JUST RUN.

I think that is exactly it, if the guy is going to stab you, and has every intent to do so, you are not going to see it coming, but if he pulls a knife and shows it to you, it is more likely to be a threat and you have to ask yourself, is he going to go through with it, which is more to do with psychology and judgement than anything to do with the martial arts, get it wrong and you are screwed. If anyone round here were going to stab me, it would not be because they wanted to rob me, but because they had a grudge, and I seriously hope no-one is harbouring a grudge. I think that the majority of potential knife assailents out there are neither very intelligent or well educated. Unless they have really got the first strike in, in which case you are a hospital or mortuary case, your opponent is going to size you up first, they know you, they know where you live and so do there mates, they might be part of a gang culture, but is it going to be cool to cut you up? Probably not unless you totally transgress there warped concept of street honour.

There is NO ultimate Knife defense to learn or show. Its all by the situation, and its a bad idea to show or teach advices on Video and give false meaning of security. They want to show here what a real knife attack is about to show that it isnt a Dojo Martial Arts attack.

Man oh man, I've trained a lot of different martial arts and when the teacher starts with the knife defense demonstration, I always have this urge to disagree to everything he/she is saying because a knife attack doesn't go like how teachers show them. It doesn't matter if you are a black belt of 100 martial arts. 1 crazy kid with a knife will, most of the time, mess up a professional martial artist. And that is also the reason why I always carry a knife with me. It's the perfect weapon for self defense, aside from a gun of course. Thank you so much for this video, you guys! have a great day, stay safe and God bless!

Yes, but it needs BIG balls to talk to a "Sensei/Teacher" in Dojo that way. They are not ready for critics. And in germany its illegal to carry a knife outside your home, but of course the bad guys are not interested about laws...its bad if you defend yourself with a knife and then be judged on trial because the attackers say that they DONT have a knife and YOU started the fight.

Soooo in your “reality” you ignore the hostile aggressor, you ignore either; the knife in his hand, or, the hidden hand (like behind him)...you ignore maintaining distance, and you wait for the “attack”?

There are certain actions you can take to minimize the chances of getting stabbed. You can slip your shoe off and use it to deflect the knife. This all depends on how much time you have to react. It's very simple actually. You step on the heel of the shoe you want to remove and lift your other leg up. The shoe will become loosened enough that you can reach down halfway (leg raised halfway) and remove it. Slide it on your hand. You could also use pocket change (if you have it of course) and throw it in their face. The best advice though is to run if you can.

The poor men and women who were stabbed to death by the 3 terrorists here in the UK (3rd June 2017) at London bridge stood no chance. The attackers used 12 inch pink ceramic kitchen knives bought for about 5 dollars from a Lidl supermarket and tied them to their wrists. The victims who came for all walks of life stood no chance. It takes a special type of coward to stab innocent young women to death. I wish they had had a chance to see you videos. Thank you for the upload.

That knife hits an artery, especially in the neck you'll leak like a hose. Another thing to keep in mind for someone attacking: you hit them as many times as possible and quickly as possible because even with multiple fatal wounds the opponent can still get you for a while before he drops.

I don't know why most knife attackers go for the torso. It seems like a thrust to the neck or face or even the eyes would diffuse the situation faster. If you do like a hook attack to the side of the head and go through the ear canal into the brain it's instantly over

Another reality is that having a concealed firearm doesn't mean much as far as knife defense goes. Many knives don't get drawn until they are right next to you. Besides, drawing a firearm, switching safety, and chambering a round, all takes enough time for a knife wielding assailant to have closed some 10-15 feet, at least if charging you, and good luck to it if already on top of you stabbing wildly. There are only a couple of things possible, one is to roll, it's possible but requires space, practise & is awkward to do on any hard rough surface. Otherwise you can allow yourself to fall backwards to create some distance, but the reality is then you're immobile, and given adrenaline, and the fact handguns carry only minor stopping power, an assailant can take many rounds while still attacking until they bleed out.

One man without legs attack me with a knife in the street just because i was on "his way". Knife rage is coward and my awwarness saved me. Let me tell u my minset when im out in the streets (knifes):
Try to always asume that ull be attacked, so u can react and dont get paralized. Get paralized is death.
    Last option:
Begging is the best survival option.
Very last option: (the fight is for the distance, not for power, so u CANT waste energy, u will run yes or yes later)
Defend urself with rocks, chains, sticks, use jacket or leather belt to cove ur hand . Whatever that can bring u some distance and protection. Never go front, go sides. BE DIRTY AND "COWARD" (COWARD= NOT STUPID).
If u will attack, DO IT LETHALY.
(HACK UR SURIVAL INSTICS): imagine urself hugging ur mom, and then realize the danger moment as the final boss battle xd. Forrest u know what to do :v

Great video. I was very tired of videos showing knife attackers who uses typical military style knife attacks where they assume wearing armor or sturdy out wear so they only attack some critical points of the body. In reality, they will stab you anywhere possible because as the damage stacks up, the tide is on the attacker's, and they are smart enough to know that. Thanks for making this high quality videos.

After 16 years of martial arts I have never found a way to properly defend against a knife, and I wholeheartedly agree with what's said in this video. The best thing to do (if you can depending on the situation) is to run like hell. The only times you can really do anything is if you have the advantage of knowing that someone is carrying a knife, in which case I would simply attack in berserk mode way before it's even out of the pocket. That includes dirty fighting like throat punch, nose punch, knee to the groin so fast that the knife never comes out, but that's not a realistic scenario. Just like this video explains, you don't even know you're being stabbed or that you got stabbed until the adrenaline wears off or your awareness picks up on it. I have only ever disabled a single attacker wielding a knife and that's because he was about to attack someone else and I was behind him, and that is still incredibly dangerous, but usually nobody recovers very fast from a solid kick to the groin so I simply got lucky. Don't train techniques, train psychology and stress.

Finally a video that is about a knife fight that isn't stupid I see a lot of the gym videos where they are showing how to disarm someone with a knife and to those instructors I would say want to try to take a real knife away from me with bare hands it's not going to work they would be better off trying to knock me out or just flee and they always in those videos assume the attacker has the knife pointing forward wich is dumb to assume when holding it facing away from the body is a lot more affective as far as stabbing goes and it's easier to slash then stab even punch sorry if you read this and it felt like a rant I just watched some of this stupid videos so was annoyed great channel you have gained a subscriber

One of the reasons i quit my Martial Arts this year, its stupid to learn 96 (!) knife disarms for an examination and many fancy moves ONLY for the Dojo and for the next Black Belt. It takes many time and money for to learn that useless shit. And the best: When we ask about the head teacher (10th degree BB) what he would do in a knife attack he shows a total different and effective way to escape, nothing what is in the examination or learning programm...

first thing u see that he pulling a knife u fucking run up on his ass jump on him start fucking beating the shit out of him or when he pulls out his switch and comes at u with a stab you measure his angle swish or dip uppercut him grab his hand and fucking break it i always carry a fuckin switch even in school i go to a juvenile delinquent school though so i need it and from knife fight experience i got stabbed so many times even if you get stabbed keep up on his ass till he or you dead in a fight with me the fuckin fight dont stop till either your half way fuckin dead or all my joints and fingers are broke you cant pussy out if u start to shake i understand i did the first couple times to when this guy mugged me in the school bathroom i shaked but when he said hey fucker n grabbed my arm i took my blade stabbed my leg turned around and fucking punch his ass so hard his nose fuckin bent upwards for shaking problem just cut yourself bad or stab yourself to give you that 10 sec adrenaline rush that gives you the upperhand
EDIT: for girls or skinny little white boys tha never been in fights before i suggest you push the guy out the way as hard as you can and run but if you have confidence push him run up behind him strongarm him as hard as you can

Seems like the only way to defend against a knife attack if you can't run is to assume that he has a weapon even if you don't see one and just start hitting him before he has a chance to possibly pull one out because by the time he pulls it out, it's probably too late. The attack would happen too fast.
