This is interesting but in some of the “attack evaded” scenarios it is likely/possible that the attacker wouldn’t immediately succumb to their wounds and could still attack with lethal force.

True but it's a lot easier to shoot multiple times than stab multiple times. Even if he isn't shocked but getting two bullets in his chest. How many times can you shoot him in one stab? Thee, four times? And that's the importance of the Mozambique drill. Chest chest head.

@@megawolfr1986 should be noted, the first knife attack wasn’t a stab but a slash to your jugular, also while its common practice to present your firearm with two hands, center forward- the knife attacker (if equally practiced) still has a non occupied hand.
In reality, the only true takeaway from this demonstration is if you’re only carrying a gun then keep a safe distance in accordance to draw and present with enough time.

This situation is extremely unrealistic unless your going into a situation in which the person is already planning to kill you with the knife. Which in almost never the case in everyday situations such as robberies and other violent crimes. Almost everyone who carries a knife carries some type of knife that is not an open blade knife like the one used in the simulation so it would take a lot longer for the person to pull out the knife if they had it stowed away. OR more likely have it counselled in a jacket sleeve and will only branish it when they are close enough to you to be threatening and they will give a demand not just stab you. The only situation I can see this being valuable is your in a gang or something where you messed with the wrong person and now you have a hit out on you but even then you should be aware someone is coming after you. Also the defender did not once lift up his arm to defend himself from the knife attack he held his arm close to his head and let the knife slip in and cut him in the throat every time.

There is one thing to keep in mind: None of the knife attacks are instantly incapacitating. There is a good chance both parties will be badly injured in the close range knife attacks. The types of hits the knife wielder landed at all but the closest distance were flesh wounds, no artery hits.

    • @Frenchfrys17
      @Frenchfrys17 3 роки тому +12

@@Frenchfrys17 100% agreed. Also the gunman is at a big disadvantage mechanically because the muzzle can easily be deflected and not do any harm after that point, or for automatics the firearm can jam up on clothing and only be good for a shot or two. The thing going for the gunman is increased chances of incapacitation, as basically any common firearm has a chance to harm the central nervous system, while it is surprisingly difficult to do so with a knife.

I'd like to see the first test done again with variances on hand to hand combat. 6 for someone unknowledgeable, 6 for someone with minor knowledge (maybe a boxing class or a few months of karate), and then 6 with a black belt of any martial art (told to use pistol to see their reaction, not to actually react using their martial art).
Another variance for testing would be direction of movement away from X.
Moving laterally may show better results as it doesn't allow the attacker to lunge forward directly, gives the defender an element of surprise, and in total may chance results of even the 1m, though I doubt it
7m test: attacker should be instructed to follow through, meaning not to slow down because he doesn't want to tackle the defender. Set up mats for it for safety, you'll see a lot more failures.

There are several key factors to this most of the time someone armed with a gun would win. There are key factors in which someone with a knife would in a fight which are distance, speed, length of blade, and the instant fatality of a stab or a slash which that case sharpness and penetration would to be considered. Just because someone is stabbed or slashed doesn't mean they die instantly rather they may bleed out, so a duel may very well end in a draw.

Excellent demonstration of the Tueller 21 foot rule. My only improvement would be to use your free hand to grab and jam the shooters draw as you land a fatal neck slash a straight stab to the upper face or a heart stab if clear. A Bondo Blackbelt friend of mine came back from Tennessee and showed me how lethal and fast a knife can be. Hacked me to shreds [with a training knife] attempting disarm techniques. Also killed using a ballbat or short stick. Also went knife to knife and whoever made the first mistake usually died, Also if you know you are not going to get there, throw the knife at the face. It will buy you a second to engage and try and get control of the gun. I carry both but at close range 18ft or less the coldsteel 6 in folder will always be deployed first followed by the gun.

Your ability to read someone's character, in any scenario, violent confrontation or simply workplace, will decide your advantage in being able to handle the situation. Self defense is preliminary as much as active. The more information you can take in, the better. The more quickly you can process that information, the better. Observe. Orientate. Decide. Act. I also carry a tourniquet on me and two more in my vehicle, in case myself or someone else gets shot, stabbed or injured another way. Be prepared and you will survive. But you've got to be a quicker draw and faster shot than this. THE ONES THAT WERE EVADED SOME WOULD STILL BE STRIKES AS EVEN AFTER BEEN SHOT ATTACKER WILL STILL HAVE MOMENTUM COMING FORWARD, OR MAY NOT BE INCAPACITATED IMMEDIATELY. SO EVEN AFTER BEEN SHOT SOME OF THE ATTACKS IF REAL MAY HAVE STILL CONTINUED THROUGH.
SO I THINK EVEN IF YOU GET A SHOT OFF STILL NEED TO MOVE OUT OF THE PATH OF THE BLADE, THOUGH THIS ADDS A PROBLEM THAT SHOOTING WHILE MOVING WILL REDUCE ACCURACY SO FIRST ROUND MAY NOT BE AS EFFECTIVE.
ALSO AT CLOSE RANGE STOPPED COVERING NECK WITH LEFT ARM WHICH I THOUGHT WAS A REALLY GOOD IDEA TO GET A BARRIER IN THE WAY OF NECK.

In first scenario what would have happened if the guy with gun went towards target instead of away. By closing the gab the guy with knife loses all momentum and the knife attack could be deflected with a block giving time to raise gun and fire. Sometimes the greatest way to avoid danger is to run towards it!

So 7 meters appears to the minimum distance to successfully draw against a knife, assuming your draw is smooth.

I want to put my thoughts on this matter. I think that the gun would loose in the 0-10 meter range.
To preface this scenario will presume that the attcker(knife guy) will catch the gun guy of guard but the attcker starts from these ranges and gun guy has full view of the attacker at all times.
In the 0-3 range the gun guys just dead no doubt in my mind he might have time to touch his gun thats about it
3-6 the gun man will get shots off most of the time but his momentum and the fact that you dont go down straight away from being shot you would still have to be cearful
6 and onwards the gun will win 100% but that does not mean that this is the knife guys limit.
From know on we will get into the realm of momentum and surprise attacks. In these ranges the gun man will have there back to the attacker and the attacker will be moving at there max speed when the gun man notices he is being attacked.
0-6 gun man is dead in my mind
6-10 is where it would be 50/50
    10 onwards attackers dead
I think knives are more lethal and painful to a cirtain extent hears why. Thanks to humanitarian laws pullets are required cause as little suffering as possible aka trying to make bullets go straight through enemies in stead of get stuck and cause less damage because of there comparatively small area, knives on the other hand have the hole length of the blade (bullets have only the diameter). Knives I believe cause more pain (with exptions), a slice cuts through multiple nerve groups which can cause gashes at least a foot long doing mager damage and causing multiple hemorrhages, a stab causes a wound the size of 3 to 6 inch blade witch can be twsted moved about to cause secondary damage and if taken out can cause major blood loss. Speed is also a focactor because a knife is going slower its the body enough time to register the pain but a bullet would be going so fast the body wouldn't register the pain as quick possibly delaying the pain by a few hundred micro seconds wich makes all the differance in this scenario and the bullet would cause the damage the size of a penny
That my point of view if you are either hate what I just said or you agree with me either way you wouldn't run at someone with a knife from across street and wouldn't pull out your gun standing next to someone holding a machete, guns and knives have their place, its all about variety.
PS I just looked back at this comment after finishing and thought "why did I just spend half an our witing this"
Have a nice day btw ignore the spelling mistakes I dont care enough to fix them

Got it. So if I don't attempt to defend against the knife strike, am killed by one knife strike, am in an encounter in which the opposition already has their weapon drawn, and the attacker has no fear of my firearm, then I would be better off using a knife. Oh, forgot to mention, i'm also screwed if i'm not allowed to move, and have to hip draw with a jacket in the way.
Litterally change any one of these things and this test is skewed completely in favor of the gun.

I’ve watched a guy cruise up on a bicycle to a guy who thought he was facing a friend. Mr bicycle had a folder open in his hand ready to rip mr friend from Adam’s apple to asshole. I was standing 10 ft away at my office door with a 9 iron and a cellphone and raised my voice when I could tell the conversation was intense. They were on different sides of a fence but my dude was a dead man and never knew it. I was set to drop bike boy but wouldn’t have been near in time to save my bud, and I could move faster than a cat at that time. And these weren’t soldiers or vets,,just street punks. I called my wife and started taking on my phone and bike boy took off. I walked over to bud and asked you never seen it didja? He said @dudes just a punk@ I said dude had a four inch blade ready to rip you as soon as you leaned on the gate. Whatever you owe him, you better pay that man cuz he’s real

when its gun vs. knife if the knife is the one attacking it usually will win because its either by surprise attack or close enough they can get to you before you can properly use a firearm . And even if you do manage to get a shot off chances are pretty high you will still be stabbed several times before the attacker goes down . But if its at a distance and your being shot at then your better off having a firearm so its nice to carry both with easy access .

    • @bow2me26
      @bow2me26 4 роки тому

Oh as for going against a weapon your usually better off not backing up and evading but rather come at them from one side or the other and jam the weapon arm attacking you as you attack . They only get one chance to attack and since you came in its usually a unexpected reaction and your chances of success is much higher . Personally though instead of going for my gun id probably have jammed it while hitting the throat or stomping the knee then pull the gun as they start to drop from the damage dealt . Damage they arent simply going to be able to shake off . Knives are handy tools but once their legs broke or they cant breath their ability to use it drops by alot.

In reality, both would have quite a big chance of getting pretty fucked up, since knife wounds don't usually kill instantly, and neither do handgun wounds. My bet would be that the one with the better training would have the best chance of survival.

Unfortunately one shot from a pistol isn't effective. In fact even a whole magazine may not stop an attacker. Attacks last much longer and even if you do end up stopping the knife welder you might still lose your life due to the initial damage done and the continued aggression. Make sure you have your affairs in order and tell people you love them. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed.

I think in most situations they would both die. You cut someone's throat or stab them they are still going to want to hurt you so the guy with the knife would still get shot. Now there are examples on both sides about this some have survived being stabbed or cut and some have survived being shot.....but both got badly injured. A real fight is a scary situation and the human body is a fragile thing in the context of arms and combat. If you are both hellbent on killing eachother there will probably be no survivor.
