Hi Tom, The little wall at the side of the council offices going down the hill was affectionately called The Welcome. Was a great meeting place for locals who sat on the wall.
Ah Stephen you are spot on about that. I know the wall seat. All the local boyos would sit there on a Sunday afternoon and eye up the ladies that passed by doing the town up and down circuit to attract attention. lol
Well Tom, you can certainly understand why the horses of the day struggled with this one,I'd have thought the bus Company would have checked the height of the bridge before allowing buses to use this route.
Ah they probably did Chris but the drivers simply forgot! A lot of double deckers and high lorries would have been coming in from mainland UK or up from the South so they wouldn't have been aware! Crash, bang, wallop, happened quite a few times! And still does!
Well Tom, that's a Valid point forgetfulness and not thinking, I well remember an incident on a road in South Yorkshire when I was following a wagon loaded up with square straw bails and he misjudged a metal bridge and got stuck he didn't loose any bails but he was jammed solid so we had to release air from his tyres to lower the wagon down a touch.
Hey Tom thanks for sharing this brings back memories I've always liked Banbridge and we used to shop at Tesco I was always up and down the high street and we used to eat at pigets 😊
Very interesting Tom - I was going through Banbridge only yesterday!
I hope I've got this right! lol

That was good thinking Chris!

Wow Mark! this is my home town! Your were a most welcome visitor! Tesco was on the Castlewellan road about half a mile our from my old home.
@TomMcClean yes Tom I remember you telling me and it's me Paul ha ha 😂
Fly under?
Yes Colin! lol
It is definitely the oldest grade separated junction in Ireland. I have actually looked this up before, believe it or not 😂
Thanks for that JH. No one has ever come back at me about this and informed me that there was another older version of a flyover somewhere else.
