Marc Brunet such a great video series idea. I actually started world building last week. Already wrote everything down and now I’m working in the culture designs, assets and environmental designs. It’s so addictive and it’s a great way to develop art skills. Il be following this series for sure! Keep em coming!

Love the idea for this new series although. I would like to pick your brain about the red females and there secondary sex characteristics no children = no child rearing = no need for mammary glands not sure if its just a personal preference thing but it could be fun to play around with a similar silhouette that mirrors form but adds function just a thought I had cant wait for the next episode
RALLIR Thanks! Yeah the decision to have breasts was more of an aesthetic one - thinking they’re just leftovers from when they did have kids many many generations ago, or something :)

What if you make a race that changes color as it ages?
The iridescence tribe? Or the rainbow/roygbiv tribe?
Reminds me of Robin Hobb's books. She has a fictional race that is born with pure white skin, but as they age (they live several centuries- even millenia) they turn gold and then finally black as charcoal as they accomplish certain things. They have prophetic powers and an ingrained duty to shape the world, but if they try to stop the world's development and progress on the path that has been set by fate, they remain white-skinned and never change. The books are pretty good too :)

Maybe I missed something, but don't you think that it's useless for the red people to have males and females since they don't mate to give birth? Ok let's say that the only difference is that females are born with the crystal, I think you would need to explain this difference better: why is it that some red people (the females) have the crystal and others (the males) don't? And what's the point for the females of having breasts if they don't breastfeed and larger hips if they don't get pregnant? I think it's important to acknowledge that reproduction plays an important role in the anatomy of a species. But other than that, great job, I love your work!
I think males are expendable defense forces. If you lose a female, you cannot reproduce as you lose the crystal. Having the entire race able to house a crystal also makes it dangerous if several go besserk at one time. Maybe they are extremely strong, if you have no expendables then you might lose future offspring trying to subjugate a besserk female.

personally i think theres nothing wrong with obscure impractical life cycles. granted i do agree with boob sentiment. i can probably make a case for them having a "softer" physique due to being pampered and possibly even prohibited from doing hard work.

As for the red people if the male are practically immortal and the amount of the stones are finite given that the stones from deceased females are used to give birth to another red person, won't there be a time maybe after a few years, that only male members will be left?
I don't think so, since he said the stones birth more females then they do males.
This project is awesome, keen to see it unfold.

I love this! Chroma looks like a really beautiful and interesting world. I've been following your art for years now, but for some reason I never thought there might be an official backstory for the subjects of your paintings. I've always been especially curious about your artwork with the red people painting the blue giants gold. I think I'll go check out your other worldbuilding vids and see if I can find out. :D
Is a really cool concept, and something I would love to try for myself one day. I really enjoyed the basic physical and sociological differences between these peoples. It gives a very interesting backdrop for dramatic interactions between them in the future. The Green people remind me a great deal of a mix of James Cameron's Na'vi and Akira Toriyama's Namekians. I think I like them more, but find the Reds more fascinating and tragic.

As you were explaining the Green people and them growing stronger over time I was instantly reminded of trees and how they get stronger when they age :D
With the red people on the other hand I couldn't really feel them alienated, but with the volcanic theme and the gem stones they seemed me more like stone born
Maybe coming from the earth through an volcanic eruption that brought the red sphere(?) up there so they had to re settle and are currently disrupting the ecosystem that build itself on the island o_o
Well in the end I'm just curious what you will make out of the theme :)
The Green People sound a lot like the Pak Protectors from Known Space. Eating the roots of a Tree of Life makes an elderly Pak immortal, and boosts them mentally and physically to a point that they are among both the strongest and most intelligent species in the galaxy. The trade off is a Pak Protector feels biologically driven to defend their tribe/troop/family from any and all external threats - they can only focus on the continued safety of their younger family members before all else.
*MAYBE GREEN PEOPLE TASTE REALLY GOOD ...*

Hey! Environment definitely yes since it’s an important part of being a well rounded artist. I cover my world building project over the course of the 3 personal project classes but those aren’t “world building” classes per say.
Can you make a book that have something to do with the Croma island?
From Cube Brush to Brushboost then to Marc Brunet 😆😆
... and before Cubebrush it was MB Workshops, and before that it was Bluefley.
I must have a condition.
Make some character that goes to the other tribe and can use both set skills. That would be cool

@@YTartschool oh, so no matter what the females die. So I gotta ask, since the men arent needed for reproduction, are most if not all men bi or gay, especially the older the man gets?? And where do women lie on terms of sexuality? Like, it's kinda weird thinking that a 1,000 year old man sleeping with a 20 year old woman, right??
@@YTartschool I hope it doesn't come off as me being rude, I'm genuinely interested in how society treats these topics. In my world building, they are very open sexually, their religion has plenty of gay, lesbian, straight, and a lot more aspects of that whole spectrum.
Wait so what happens to the females when the crystal is harvested before the onset of monster Dom?
Ethan Coster The crystal becomes part of their body, removing it is fatal to the host. When they die (probably before it’s harvested) their body goes back to pure energy and the crystal is the only material thing left behind.

I love your setting and especially the people who live there! If there was a mmorpg I would try it right away, plus playing it in an RPG like D & D / Pathfinder would be great, it wouldn't be a bad idea if I published their racial traits for these games :)
Is the stone on females forehead a part of the big red orb? because its green :D
Hopefully this will explain the logic but it's a green crystal, which is really the equivalent to a chicken egg if the Green people were chickens (if that makes any sense). The Red people just use those crystals produced by Green people for themselves, like parasites.

i literally have this fantasy world with 'coloured people' started 4 yrs ago .. it is called "Kaleido" when i saw this video.. i don't know how to react 😅🙃 happy and sad that my world is not unique anymore 🌏🙈

Do you have any suggestions when it comes to working with layers and when to not? I see that sometimes you work on mostly one layer, but other times you utilize many. Just something i noticed and I always wondered if there was a reason. I mostly watch your speed paints so I apologize if you've talked about this in your weekly streams!
Hey Chloe! It really just depends of how flexible you need to be. When I work on a speedpaint, 1 layer is enough since there's really not much back and forth going on. Whatever I put down on canvas I just commit to it. When I need the option to explore different alternatives with a particular design though, then having multiple layers can make sense.

I'm not a writer so I don't think I'd be confident writing any story, but that's not to say the stories don't exist in my head ;) I'll try to communicate those when I tackle the many illustrations to come, but putting together a comic will have to wait a bit... not to say it won't happen though. First I still want to create an enticing and complete world and a book documenting it all. I'm sure a ton of fun ideas will spawn from that once I get there ;)
