I love the princess.and yours.my dad had a total of 5 in the 70s and 80s .the sound of the engine starting takes me right back.and this one is practically the same age as me.lovely colour too
GREAT VIDEO !! . I always think it pays to whip the plugs out ... squirt some release oil down the bores (not WD40) ..... then spin her over on the starter .! . Then add some 2-stroke into the bores and repeat to just "oil up" the bores and rings and when she fires .... see loads of healthy smoke filling the driveway ! . Yeh add some thin oil to the dash pot ... then lift the piston a few times also. . Nice old car though mate :-)
Thanks, it's long since gone to a new home now but it had been running before this video so wasn't much point otherwise yes, I would have put oil down the cylinders. I bought it after the previous owner had pulled it out of a shed it's been in since 1992, he got it running but did no mechanical work to it. Yes, I remember I did add oil to the dashpot though, good point. It ran a lot better after the timing and mixture were sorted, they were the main reasons for the hard starting. It usually fired up first turn of the key after that.
@@iamnotamechanic884 Cheers mate ! . They drive so nice compared with modern cars and they did make a "VanDen Plas" model which would have been amazing ! . Ah new cars are so boring.... my favorite is the Dacia Duster coz it reminds me of a Lada Niva ! . Cheers for replying !
Did you not think to charge the battery before you attempted to start the car? You should give that engine some hard revving after it eventually started, that would have cleared it & would not do it any harm! I think you lack some common sense my friend & need to go back to school for some refresher lessons on how to start a carburettor car!

3:25 you are welcome!
Are you sure the carb was rebuilt ?!!😂
I know how this feels.
Pumping the accelerator has no effect on an engine with an SU carburettor since it has no acceleration pump.
Fair point, I hadn't thought of that - doesn't need it anyway now, starts on the button!
You shouldn't pump the accelerator AT ALL Mr MMJ!! No need for it whatsoever & achieves nothing really except wastage of petrol!
needs a new battery X car😂
