Catherine Wheel - Crank Skunk Anansie - Selling Jesus Tonic - Soldier's Daughter Ks Choice - Not an addict Love spit Love - Am I wrong Sponge - Molly (Sixteen Candles)
I always knew Shirley is Scottish, it’s so obviously from both her singing and speaking voice, her physical appearance also give away that she’s Scottish as well.
A few that were missed: 1. "Lakini's Juice" and/or "The Dolphin's Cry" - Live 2. "Do You Sleep?" - Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories 3. "Pure Morning" - Placebo 4. "The Chemicals Between Us" - Bush 5. "Barely Breathing" - Duncan Sheik 6. "Erase/Rewind" - The Cardigans 7. "The Old Apartment" - Barenaked Ladies 8. "King of New Orleans" - Better Than Ezra 9. "Ana's Song (Open Fire)" - Silverchair 10. Yeah I graduated in 97 myself and a lot of this stuff is pop garbage that no one actually listened to, terrible representation of music from my beloved decade.
I remember L7 performing Pretend Were Dead on British late night show The Word and Donita Sparks pulling down her pants and throwing a sanitary pad during their performance
You talk about "Im afraid of Americans" by Bowie without even mentioning Trent Reznor from NIN. That was such a weird but amazing collab and you passed over it.
That's what I wanted to write, you can literally hear which notes and shades Trent is responsible for, not mentioning him is like giving half-truth here. WHY.
Some of these songs are definitely NOT forgotten…some of these were BIG hits. But shout out to whoever included firehouse, Saigon Kick, Jackyl and Pride & Glory…nice job👍🏻
What's funny isn't how many of these bands I saw live back in the day, it's how many I saw playing the same shows. Eve 6 and third eye blind at one. Marcy playground, fastball, and everclear at another. Dinosaur Jr at lollapalooza 93. I met firehouse at a truck stop after their show one night. Jackal opened for Bon Jovi in Minneapolis. Fun times
Happy Christmas, everyone! UA-cam is truly a time machine, transplanting us back to simpler times. Despite only being an infant in the late 90's, I still look back fondly at the era.
Although I don’t think that Garbage’s song “I’m only happy when it rains.” Should be on this list because it’s a very iconic and memorable song + it is Garbage’s signature song.
Can you put a, "Top 10 Best Fast Food Chain Fries", on your schedule? Great ideas are McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Five Guys, Chick-fil-A, Popeye's, and Arby's
Ready To Go. Played that up and down. Reminds me of good times in the year I got 18. "What It's Like" was and is an amazing song. Everlast (Erik Schrody) showing his other side. I mean, House of Pain kicked a$$, but so did he in his solo career. A gifted and versatile artist.
I'm 40, I was at least partially the target audience for this stuff, and i've never heard of L7. - that republica single is still in my collection, great stuff.
“My Own Worst Enemy” is the current theme song of the conservative news program _The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show,_ a fitting piece for the country’s current state, but I haven’t gotten around to listening to the full song yet.
OK this is definitely very US centric. I am literally the target demographic for this video, and yet I knew less than half of these songs. Admittedly the songs I did know are awesome, but when it comes to bands that came from the indie scene of one particular town or city in the US and spread outward, many of them probably never left the US or if they did they were not very well known.
Filter "Take a Picture" is one of my all-time go to songs to listen to, a lot of these songs are on my current playlist on my phone, so, no, I haven't forgotten and I'm a child of the 80s and heavily influenced by said decade.
It’s wild to see this video for me. I was born in 1991 but got a radio for Christmas when I was 4. Every time I was in my room playing I would have my radio on and be playing while listening to the local rock station. My favorite channel was 97.1 The Eagle. Then eventually I found 102.1 KDGE The Edge. My first concert was actually “Edgefest 15!” I remember being young and stupid running around there with my friends. We all got so sunburnt and stoned it was ridiculous! Thank god we got stoned because the sunburn HURT without it. Strangely the thing I remember the most was the lead singer of Blue October had to sit on a stool during the performance because he recently had a surgery. Also Flyleaf was AWESOME live!
man, i remember when i was a kid in 98 and hearing Jumper By Third Eye Blind constantly playing on the car stereo. brings back memories. a truly great time to be a kid. music was great, movies were fantastic, videogames were awesome and the world had not yet been ruined by AI, Social Media and the Internet. i miss those days...
Then there's another Liz Phair song that dives headlong into vulgarity, creatively so. If you know you know. Rediscovered her stuff. Love her. She's something else.
The pixies- Where is my mind Beck- Loser Beastie Boys- So whatcha want Nine inch nails- Closer Notorious Big- Juicy I could definitely keep going but I'm busy.
Oh, I LOVE “Loser,” and not just because my father hates it. Its lyrics shouldn’t make sense, but part of what makes it enjoyable is that they do. “In the time of chimpanzees, I was a monkey.” Genius!
How could people forget about Eve6's Inside out - it was played incessantly when it came out, is a FANTASTIC rock track, I bought the single, and it still gets plays from me. - one of those where I always end up doing the harmony for in the car :D
O.K. of these 30 songs, if you like and listen to rock/rock alternative radio, not only have you (me) not forgotten about 15 of them but hear them on a weekly basis today. The other 15 songs were never hit songs and would have been a deep cut in the 90s.
Radiohead had 2 of the best albums of the 90s and a pretty good debut, but everybody thinks their only song was Creep. Not a single Radiohead song on here.
I used to party some with Jackyl in Myrtle Beach right before they went into the studio to record their debut album. Wide open and yet all around decent guys
wow, this is a good list. thanks watchmojo. I love ready to go but the video gives me motion sickness. sex and candy is the most overrated song of the 90's.
Just call it 90s Songs We Want to Talk About. 98% of this list is still being played everywhere and has never been forgotten by anyone who heard them when they were new.

Bowie had been writing with Eno since the 1970s - what made "I'm Afraid Of Americans" different was the collaboration with and production by Nine Inch Nail's Trent Reznor.
Next let’s do a top 20 of best 90s techno songs!! NOT DANCE, techno!! Electronica, House, Breakbeat, Big Beat, Trance!! Definitely in there should be Rockafeller Skank, Bang On, We Have Explosive, Atom Bomb, Trip Like I Do, Busy Child, Praise You, Block Rockin’ Beats, Firestarter, Higher State of Consciousness, Born Slippy, Juke Joint Jezebel, Days Go By, Around the World, and Music Sounds Better With You
Well I'm 45 and being British I certainly don't remember 80 percent of this list... (at least back then!) The UK was very much still locked into Britpop/indie (as I was back then!) and if your going by what BBC Radio 1 was playing, it wasn't most of this. (Oasis, Garbage and Republica were definitely there though!) But I'm always enjoying discovering stuff from back then I never really heard at the time.
you had the best of it then. once oasis came along nothing else could compete. still remember the first time i heard champagne supernova on the radio. bought whats the story and definitely maybe the next day.(from fort worth, texas)
Ready to Go is the song used for Top Thrill Dragster and Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point. After the lawn ornament situation in 2024, I don't intend to listen to that song again anytime soon.
The Lizard by Saigon Kick is a great album. That said, as someone whose life at this time (ages 18-27) revolved around music, I knew 18 of the 30, but every single one in the top 10. I would imagine most everyone who grew up at that time knows the top 10. The bottom 20 are a bit more obscure.

I don't even remember most of these shitty songs. So they are not songs I forgot were awesome, because as far as I'm concerned, they never were.
midlife crises from faith no more
This is basically my daily playlist... the 90s were the best.
Amen
💯!
Actually I was thinking Godsmack lol
Hahaha….
was this the music of your youth?
Catherine Wheel - Crank
Skunk Anansie - Selling Jesus
Tonic - Soldier's Daughter
Ks Choice - Not an addict
Love spit Love - Am I wrong
Sponge - Molly (Sixteen Candles)
Garbage are such an awesome band. In fact, I was surprised to discover that lead singer Shirley Manson is Scottish, not American.
I take it you’d never heard her speak. Her accent is thicker than spackle.
I always knew Shirley is Scottish, it’s so obviously from both her singing and speaking voice, her physical appearance also give away that she’s Scottish as well.
Being Scottish was a big part of her image back then.
Same here. It seems that we're in the minority. Who knew? Almost everybody else.
Garbage was very good, also great in concert!
A few that were missed:
1. "Lakini's Juice" and/or "The Dolphin's Cry" - Live
2. "Do You Sleep?" - Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories
3. "Pure Morning" - Placebo
4. "The Chemicals Between Us" - Bush
5. "Barely Breathing" - Duncan Sheik
6. "Erase/Rewind" - The Cardigans
7. "The Old Apartment" - Barenaked Ladies
8. "King of New Orleans" - Better Than Ezra
9. "Ana's Song (Open Fire)" - Silverchair
10. "Song for the Dumped" - Ben Folds Five
11. "Touched" - Vast
12. "Battleflag" - Low Fidelity All-Stars featuring Pigeonhead
13. "Du Hast" - Rammstein
14. "Don't Drink the Water" - Dave Matthews Band
15. "Walking After You (The one from The X-Files movie soundtrack)" - Foo Fighters
Also, Brandon Boyd of Incubus is so incredibly hot.
I'm a straight man and I agree
I totally forgot about that Foo Fighters tune. So good.
Great list - one of the only DMB songs I like is DDTW.
It will become top 45
Placebo did not play Pure Morning last year in their Europe tour. WTF?
The 90s were a plethora of great music, we had hip hop, grunge, nu metal, alternative and country all hitting on all cylinders, such a great time to be a young person!
Should've included "hunger strike" by Temple of the Dog. Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder....SWEET JESUS.
According to UA-cam this year I was the top 0.01% listener of Faith No More.
Most talented musicians on this list by a mile. Incredible band.
Best cover of 'War Pigs' ever...
"Take a picture" is great - but I really dig "Hey Man, Nice Shot"
This is one of the best compilations of '90s rock I've seen. 'Free to Decide' by The Cranberries still resonates so much.😍🥰🤩
Garbage is iconic
Got You Where I Want You - The Flys

I was a teen in the 90s (graduated high school in 98) and I remember like 1/3 of these songs.
I could never forget about Liz Phair's Supernova. It still pops into my playlists sometimes.

That's what I wanted to write, you can literally hear which notes and shades Trent is responsible for, not mentioning him is like giving half-truth here. WHY.
NC guy here. Thanks for including Firehouse. They were an awesome band, and that first album was just badass.
Incubus is dope. Good memories of getting down to Stellar in the back of an Expedition.
Seriously those were the freaking best times
Hearing Republica - Ready To Go brought some memories .
Some of these songs are definitely NOT forgotten…some of these were BIG hits. But shout out to whoever included firehouse, Saigon Kick, Jackyl and Pride & Glory…nice job👍🏻
F'n A bubba
I agree. I was still listening to that music well into the 90s.

Holy crap! Uninvited was an astoundingly haunting yet beautiful song!
Fun fact: Filter singer Ricard Patrick is the brother of actor Robert Patrick, aka, the T-1000!
David Bowie + Trent Reznor, can't ever go wrong!
Cumbersome-Seven Mary Three
Shine/December-Collective Soul
These are definitely worth mentioning
I would say that nobody has ever forgotten My Own Worst Enemy by Lit. A great, lesser known single from that album is Miserable.
Adding Losing Your Mind to this list was absolutely epic! I rarely meet anyone who knows about Pride and Glory. Great addition!
This was my era and my two favorite bands are hardly spoken about. More 311 and The Urge is needed.
Tracy Bonham - Mother Mother
Hole -Violet
Butthole Suffers - Goofy’s Concern
Ready To Go. Played that up and down. Reminds me of good times in the year I got 18. "What It's Like" was and is an amazing song. Everlast (Erik Schrody) showing his other side. I mean, House of Pain kicked a$$, but so did he in his solo career. A gifted and versatile artist.
I wonder if anyone here remembers Little Black backpack by stroke 9.
I sing “I’m only happy when it rains” almost everytime there’s a storm on. My co workers really appreciate it I’m sure 🙃
Are you me? Lol, I sing relevant lyrics to just about every situation I find myself in. 80s/90s/00s music is my soundtrack to life.
RIP CJ Snare, Scott Weiland, David Bowie. Your music will live forever.
Deloris O'Riordan as well.
I'm 40, I was at least partially the target audience for this stuff, and i've never heard of L7. - that republica single is still in my collection, great stuff.
L7 was mostly early 90s, more punk side of alternative.
Girlfriend (1991) Matthew Sweet Great Song I love It
“My Own Worst Enemy” is the current theme song of the conservative news program _The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show,_ a fitting piece for the country’s current state, but I haven’t gotten around to listening to the full song yet.
I totally forgot about STP's Down. that's a great track.
9:24 doing any kind of show, concert, event..... in front of a Kmart is CRAZY
No beard Zakk Wylde is crazy.
There were a couple of these songs I don't remember ever hearing but I hadn't forgot any of these that I did hear.
Garbage Republica and Alanis Morisette was 90% of my 90's playlists
Alanis morissette is the 90's jagged little pill is probably one of the best debut albums of all time
This music is still the soundtrack to my life. It's where I feel at home.
“ It was the del fuegos. Before they had a record out. Before they went Gold and started to roll.” Julianna was the coolest.
Guano Apes - open your eyes. I still jam that every time i hear it.
Alternative rock & grunge feels like my oversized sweater hugging me back with a cigarette kiss over coffee talk 🥰🫠
You guys missed 1 songs “Blur, Song 2”. 😮
It’s wild to see this video for me. I was born in 1991 but got a radio for Christmas when I was 4. If Vercua Salt had a single named "Seether", did Seether have a song called "Veruca Salt"?
I don't believe so, but they HAVE covered the song "Seether".
The Meat Puppets Backwater should be here. That song was everywhere when it released.
man, i remember when i was a kid in 98 and hearing Jumper By Third Eye Blind constantly playing on the car stereo. brings back memories. a truly great time to be a kid. music was great, movies were fantastic, videogames were awesome and the world had not yet been ruined by AI, Social Media and the Internet. i miss those days...

No "Bound for the floor" by Local H?
The pixies- Where is my mind

Beastie Boys- So whatcha want

Notorious Big- Juicy
I could definitely keep going but I'm busy.
Oh, I LOVE “Loser,” and not just because my father hates it. Its lyrics shouldn’t make sense, but part of what makes it enjoyable is that they do. “In the time of chimpanzees, I was a monkey.” Genius!
Where is my mind is an 80s song
Proud of you for remembering Nada Surf Popular. That song was huge and then poof.
All the while you're talking about the Bowie song, Trent Reznor's stood there saying "Hello? You can see me, yes?"
My favorite Garbage song is #1 Crush. One of their best songs ever from in my opinion, one of the best movie soundtracks ever!!
Agreed. But, "Milk" will always be my favorite Garbage song. Shirley's vocals on that song will always haunt me in the best of ways.
I never knew the backstory for fastball's The Way. It was better when I didn't. great track.
"Plowed", "My Own Worst Enemy", "Inside Out", and "Jumper" get regular rotation on San Diego radio (91.1, 94.9, 105.3)
How could people forget about Eve6's Inside out - it was played incessantly when it came out, is a FANTASTIC rock track, I bought the single, and it still gets plays from me. - one of those where I always end up doing the harmony for in the car :D
Save Tonight - Eagle Eye Cherry
December - Collective Soul
What It's Like is timeless
O.K. of these 30 songs, if you like and listen to rock/rock alternative radio, not only have you (me) not forgotten about 15 of them but hear them on a weekly basis today. The other 15 songs were never hit songs and would have been a deep cut in the 90s.
I didn't know a few of the songs between 30 & 16... and then the Top 15 songs I listen to regularly. Its kinda an odd list.
At 9:56.... Did anybody else expect to see Korn when she said "I stand alone"?
Jim Blossom - Found about you
Live - Selling the drama
Toad The west sprocket - All i want
It would be rrally cool if we can have a spotify playlist of these
If you build it, they will come.
Most of these were forgotten because they were forgettable. The bands' better tracks see tons of play.
Radiohead had 2 of the best albums of the 90s and a pretty good debut, but everybody thinks their only song was Creep. Not a single Radiohead song on here.
In the creator’s defense, I think Radiohead’s music is entirely too important & influential to be included with these songs.
I used to party some with Jackyl in Myrtle Beach right before they went into the studio to record their debut album. Wide open and yet all around decent guys
These songs are so memorable that I only knew 12 of the 30 and Rock is my main genre of music. At least most of the top 10 were well known.
I don’t think you were around in the 90’s. I have 20 of these songs in my collection.
I like Republica's song 'Ready To Go', but the music video is sensory overload for me (and I usually don't have that problem).
Top 30 90s Rock Songs I Forgot and i'm glad
The Rock Band-playing community begs to differ with a lot of these picks haha
wow, this is a good list. thanks watchmojo.
I love ready to go but the video gives me motion sickness.
sex and candy is the most overrated song of the 90's.
As a Metalhead I can assure you, I did not bang My head to any of these songs in the 90's. Only Metal is Real!
The Pride & Glory album is outstanding. Did not get enough attention.
Just call it 90s Songs We Want to Talk About. 98% of this list is still being played everywhere and has never been forgotten by anyone who heard them when they were new.
Other really super awesome rock songs from the 90's:
Daddy's Getting Married Bif Naked
Elmo by Holly McNarland
I would die for you Jann Arden
Red Treble Charger
Still listen to all of this music...
great list
Bowie had been writing with Eno since the 1970s - what made "I'm Afraid Of Americans" different was the collaboration with and production by Nine Inch Nail's Trent Reznor.

One almost forgets there was a time when Americana didn't penetrate absolutely everything.
Losin' Your Mind
Pride & Glory💥💥💥💥💥💥
Poe - "Angry Johnny" 1995
Pride & Glory was while Zakk was still with Ozzy, Zakk continued to play for Ozzy until 1998 when he formed Black Label Society
The 90s were the pinnacle of rock music. Merry Christmas, Watchmojo. 💖🎄🎉

Who could forget, Alanis Morris The Cat and her Jagged Little Pill 😹
Marilyn Manson should be on your "list" because he bought the EVIL back to Heavy Metal 🤘
"metal"? Lol You must be a millennial for sure. -signed GenX
Ready to Go is the song used for Top Thrill Dragster and Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point. After the lawn ornament situation in 2024, I don't intend to listen to that song again anytime soon.
I've been a fan of Garbage since that first, self titled album.
I've seen most of them, waiting for some Stabbing Westward, Soul Asylum, or Bloodhound Gang.
Gotta handle it to the lady's in the 90s. They wrote songs to fall in love to.
