I have seen, people citadel bow tanking ships for over a year, by shooting at the turrets, both cruisers and battleships, I have citadelled Yamatos, GKs, and Iowas by shooting at the turrets at medium to close ranges, and I have been citadelled while bow tanking, so at this point, everytime I'm bow tanking, I just hope people don't shoot the second turret
On PC there was a bug where someone would shoot the superstructure of the GK and the shells would bounce off the conning tower into the citadel, don’t know if that translates to legends though
Fun fact! When i got my 222k iowa game.. i citadeled a monty through the bow.. don't know how.. i felt so sorry for the guy
More than likely your Iowa overmatches Montana's bow. If you overmatch their bow, you can pen it and citadel them.
@@jdemars nah i can't overmatch the monty bow.. i think it glitches like i aimed for the guns and i got a citadel from it.
@@mikeD1234 I think it is mostly the shape (cheek is enough of a different angle to not auto deflect) but lowish rng to get the pen. the angle is there if your pen is high enough it will help your chances

I had a citadel on a GK while it was sailing away from me around 15km or so and it was through the deck in a plunging fire. I forget what ship I was using but I distinctly remember it being American. Possibly a cruiser and I was utterly shocked when I got it.
This has been in the game for a while because I was once in the pensacola and dev struck a half health gneisnau, and have also regularly citadeled grosser kurfursts at all angles and ranges in the balti
This actually happened to me in other german bb.
I was in Gneisenau pushing to another bb to torp and he fired at my guns and citadeled me 3 times. I was so upset and nearly uninstalled the game.
I remember citadel’ing an angled Gneisenau 7’ish kilometers away in my Tallinn, I was quite confused.
Gneisenau can be citadelled pretty easily if it’s slightly angled towards you if you can hit the 25mm bow right beneath the front turret.
@@PvtPartzz I was confused because when the shells landed, the Gneisenau looked too heavily angled to actually penetrate
But was definitely a lucky shot nevertheless

The only thing I can conceivably think of is...somehow... you were shooting through his deck, not his bow, on either side of his turrents. I've never actually seen that happen before to a german bb but I've had it happen to me in both Kansas, Iowa, and rarily on some of the American "standard" battleships and I don't think it's really intended. It's a strong argument that RNG has way to big of an impact on outcomes in this game.

The prinz eugen actually have 40mm slopes on the turtleback and the hipper 30mm so pretty much every 406 mm battleships struggle to citadel them, German quality!
So I'm not totally saying the Kagero knew what they were doing but if you back out a second, it was kind of ingenious.
They are spotted by radar that they know is ending. Currently the Baltimore is broadside to them. Which means is bow in to their bigger teammates and probably bouncing a majority of the damage. so to make sure the Baltimore turns and pushes the Kagero, the Kagero let's itself get hit and get weak. This allows the bigger Conquer to get the side of Baltimore rather than the bow. The Baltimore could have easily dragged that out but Kagero actually forced their hand.
A 16 inch super heavy ricochet can probably citadel ships
8:00 The GK has a soft spot under it's command tower front or back but it must be bow or sturn on shot I do believe if you get a shell to drop behind the second turret it will drop right into the super structure with very little resistence
I've had a few games where I would say there was a good team effort, everyone on the team within 100 base xp of each other. It don't happen often but it is sweet to see base xp that close.

What most likely happened to the GK is that you went through the deck between Turret number 1 and 2
I believe it's either a citadel through the deck past the SS or possibly a ricochet off one of the turrets scored a citadel through the front deck armor. Still pretty wacky
Okay i'm sick and tired of how long it's taking for people to realize how the aiming system works in this game so here is an unconfirmed but very logical way to explain it. First off, the aiming display telling you whether you can shoot over an island or not isn't determined by where your guns are at. It is determined by where your Rangefinder is at, same goes for ranging and aiming in general. Also , most of the times when the shells fall short a few humdred meters or so is because you fired before the gun had time to fully elevate (Or something similar to that) . On the matter of bow citadeling, If your ship has the right amount of max range and gun elevation, it is quite easy to citadel ships through the bow even if they are bowtanking,. Basic eplxanation is that the shell hits the deck at an angle where the ap normalization is enough to change the ap pen heading from sideways to downwards, thereby hiting the citadel from above rather than the usual side you get from broadsides .
To put everything i said in short . Your rangefinders are basically laser guiding your guns to where and how they would shoot if they were in the rangefinders place ( Not how it actually worked back then but is kinda how it works here in the game). Range and firing ballistics (Things go up and things then come down part) will determine how likely you are to pen or even cit from above the bow .
There is even more i wanna mention but im too lazy and hesitant to give people information i spent so much mental power and time to acquire .
Remember that one glitch that happened a while ago that allowed damage/citadel thru the guns? Maybe it's happening again.
Spartan, I have been getting destroyed by he in my Hipper, losing engines every time I’m struck and heavy module damage, while ap is doing less. Do you think they rebalanced the stats? Or something in the game?
Naw just a lot of HE out there and German ships tend to lose propulsion alot

my guess is that you ricocheted off of the conning tower or the 3rd turret down into the cit deck, i have done something similar to a nelson in the wiemar

Some serious stupid stuff happening lately. Twice in the last 3 days I've gone from just under 10k health to dead from a single hit from a destroyer or cruiser in my BB.
The shells probably went through the deck armor at a certain angle.

When the game isn't protecting bad players, it's brilliant. I can even accept getting slapped myself when I screw up when the game lets me slap back when others do the same.
When my New Mexico gets 18 (yes, I counted them) overpens spread across half a game of shooting a potato broadside Dallas the game is stupid. Really, really stupid.

My problem here lately is haveing guns knocked out that usually are never knocked out. Especially german battleships

Confusion, bow tanking GK and getting citadel, rng probably, wondering if it is possible to citadel a Bismarck or and other German BB
against the Georgia at the end, feel you aimed too high on the 2nd shot. Usually vs American BB's i usually aim at the waterline in the middle (Learned that from Colorado and Iowa years ago).
Yeah but I aimed high to ensure a hit and the rear turret still all fell short..

I was just using the Amagi and smashing the Montana, however he did like 10k total damage to me, he was focusing me the whole time. I got at least 10k a salvo. Like what? I love the Amagi but I wasn't expecting all of that.

Edit: it happens on all ships bow first some get citadelled more than others.

dude, you were shooting AP rounds, and dont think for half a second they could actually penetrate? thats how you got citadel hits, plus you were aiming at the very top end of the second cannon structure. a round or 2 was bound to go through, or slightly over.
I kinda feel like battleship accuracy drops if you zoom out after firing.

I'm pretty much convinced that the game (RNG in particular) is rigged more and more.
Two examples from this weekend:
1. Full Amagi salvo against a fully broadside Weimar at 10km. All shells missed...ALL of them.
2. Full Amagi salvo with HE against full life BB. Three penetrations...zero damage...ZERO

The inconsistency of the game in dealing damage and hitting targets with the main guns, especially with battleships, is what kills the enjoyment in the game for me.

This happened to last week, i hit citadel a north carolina Bow in with the FUSO , i talk about with my friend who play pc version wows, he says that happens when the shot bounces off the thick tower plate and goes straight down into the citadel, pure RNG , like detonations, i think i got very luck
