I remember a story about a squad of sisters being arressted and tortured due to suspicion of one of them being chaos corrupted. You are always reminded of a constant scratching sound while they are in their seperate cells. At the end it turns out yes one of them was corrupted by slaanesh. As a sisters fan, I do you actually like the concept of sisters being able to fall to chaos, but I like it being a very rare event. So like at most it being a single squad in a chaos army however, the reason I like it is because I like the looming rare threat of turning to chaos. I like that it is a possibility. I like that threat being there it gives character and it gives motivation to remain resolved. I think the iconoclast story is very indicative of that and is a great showcase as to how a corrupted sister confused as a great antagonist but still allow for there to be great faith amongst the sisters, and if it’s rare, then I feel like it doesn’t deter their faith

The Words Bears in the book apocalypse said they would be many times stronger than any other Chaos warband if they just have a handful of SoB on their sides. And the book storm of iron further demonstrated that. It wasn't even a sister, just a guardsman getting captured by the Iron Warriors and a warsmith turned her into his personal slave to taunt her for daring to stand up against him, guess the warsmith was marinating her anger too much because she eventually turned into an avatar of Khorn and killed him.

It always feels lame when any faction hard-counters another faction(s) "because lore reasons", and that's what the Sisters/Grey Knights always felt like when it came to their uncorruptability, tbh. The capacity for some chaos corruption to occur is necessary to make these factions feel grounded/not protected by plot armor, and from a meta-contextual standpoint to make them feel less "OP", too.
The Chaos Space Marines already can't catch a break enough as it is, they're the reskinned punching bags of the galaxy. They could use some specialized reinforcements imo to help counter the post-Guillemann Imperium. Dark Mechanicum need a refresh too.

    • @minhducnguyen9276

@@Supercohboy What makes me interested in chaos Sisters and chaos corrupted imperial loyalists in general is because they are like a switch that's flipped like in many cases it when from them being the most loyal servants of the emperor to becoming one of the strongest follower of Chaos. It fits the Word Bearers understanding of Chaos perfectly, they don't like the imperial church but they can feel the strength of the Faith and would see the value of having similar fanatics on their side. And for that reason the idea that Sisters are incorruptible is a missing potential because if worshipping gives strength then it should give all sides equal opportunity to gain strength but for some reason it seems like only the imperial getting all the benefits without any drawback.

@@SupercohboyI'm not a fan of chaos, they always feel like so cartoonishy evil, like "We blow up the universe!!" Dark Mechanicum though, that needs to be a thing more so like chaos got a lot of Ws, but they do need an updated line and content. I feel like overall, GW kind of wrote themselves into a hole with chaos. They're now the really big bad evil guy, and always seen as the "Do you hear the voices to!" Level of insanity. While the Imperium is just as insane, you have that sense "Well, guess compared to chaos this is fine." Plus just much deeper lore and stuff with the Imperium over chaos. In Imperium stuff you get fragments of cool things, new worlds discovered, cool technology being mentioned, while chaos it's like "Well, Kharn the betrayer did this."

In my opinion, a sister falling to chaos should be treated as an absurdly rare exception that proves the rule of how generally devout the sororitas are. If chaos sisters were to be implemented into the table-top (which I hope they do some day), it should be in the form of named character units. Miriel Sabathiel is older than Abnett's story. She dates back to the 1st 40k CCG, which was released in 2001. Though her card was in one of the expansions, so I think she debuted in 2002. Abnett's story is from 2006.

I think the idea of corruptible sisters is not only acceptable but even important in the lore. It should be very uncommon and it should be treated as unthinkable and unforgivable by the order, obviously, but the idea of the sisters being invincible to corruption makes them unrelatable and unappealing, because it is obvious that their order demands superhuman levels of discipline, devotion and sacrifice. It follows that a sister, being only human, would fall from time to time, and that the order would suppress that knowledge for the sake of their ideals. But it is the fragile nature of their humanity, coupled with the strength of their faith, resolve, and the obvious power of those that never falter, manifesting the emperor's will in the form of incredible feats of combat and actual miracles on the battlefield, that will always make them a beacon of hope for the imperium, despite the fact that some may occasionally lose their battle against the horrors they willingly face.

They could probably work similarly to how Inquisitors and Assassins work for the Imperium, I.E. named character units, or character-level units, that can be added to any [Chaos] Keyword army, rather than their own individual army with their own codex. So you could say, have your Chaos Daemons lead by a small handful of named Chaos Sister units instead of Belakor or some Greater Daemons. Or have a named Chaos Sister as the head of your Chaos Space Marine army. If they where done that way, I'd drop one of my two big Birbs in my Tzeentch Daemons for a Chaos sister in a heartbeat!

I like to think that for every Fallen Sister, only 1 out of thousands actually manages to live long enough to join or be joined by chaotic forces. So definitly named characters or high-end elite strike force within an army. Because nothing is more devastating to moral that seeing a single corrupted Sister of Battle, let alone 3 or even 5 of them.
The Iconoclast story mention multiple corrupted Sisters in the ranks, most likely taken and corrupted on the battlefield itself where Khorne's influence is easiest felt, or through excess of **something** for Slaaneshi influence. An excess of devotion without the zeal to back it up for example, or a doubt giving raise to newfound convictions for any of the corruptive forces.

You don't need to fall to corruption to become a repentia or be placed in a mortifier though. Even Saint Celestine was a sister repentia at one time before she became a living Saint. The only thing needed to become a sister repentia is to fail in your duty. This does not even need to be objective failure. If you fought a battle which could not be won but somehow survived it, you could consider yourself 'failing' as you did not die for your cause. With mortifiers it is practically be the same although just one step worse.

However, I feel like it should be more of an uncommon occurrence, like one or a handful out of a thousand sisters or something of the like. I do agree that the image of the Sister of Battle being incorruptible is a big chunk of their image and part of their allure as a faction, the idea of these relatively normal mortal women being able to resist corruption where even the Astartes falter. But as we all should know by now, there are very few absolutes in this setting.

I figure, generally, that it is possible to defy corruption by sheer force of will, IF you can keep your faith strong enough. And while most Sisters' faith is strong enough, some do fall short - because nobody is perfect, especially in 40k. A lot of things can happen to them in this case, from failing in battle to attempted desertion. But occasionally, circumstances align so that they fall to Chaos instead. This doesn't happen often, but probably more often than we think, because there is no WAY the Ecclesiarchy doesn't clap a lid over that shit.
This is just how I prefer to think of it. Because like you, I admire the Sisters, and I find their uncorruptible faith utterly badass. But another thing I really like in this setting is how many cracks are in it, how close the whole mess is to falling completely. The hypocrisy, the sheer weight of lies the Imperium is crumbling under. And it makes sense to me that some of those cracks contain fallen Sisters. It makes sense that there would be SOME, because a system this bad can't help but produce side effects.

I think no one is really immune to corruption or temptation. But I think the fact that it is possible, no matter how remote of a chance it is, makes the SoB that don't fall to Chaos all the more impressive. Just being immune to chaos corruption means that they don't really have to fear it or fight against it. But when we see that it is possible for them to fall, it means the faith and willpower of those that resist that temptation are just that much stronger. It's like the astartes and not being able to feel fear. You can't truly say a space marine is brave because bravery is not the lack of fear, its the ability to overcome that fear and do what needs to be done. Yes, whether or not astartes feeling the actual emotion of fear has been removed, retconned, and changed so often it's hard to say for sure exactly what "know no fear" actually means, but it's a given that astartes do not break from fear or let it influence their actions, most of the time.
TLDR immunity to chaos corruption is boring, but feeling it and overcoming it is much more impressive.

If the Word Bearers turned to chaos, so can the Sisters. The Chaos Gods are historically good at turning zealotry for the emperor into zealotry for themselves. The Zealot in Darktide is a good example of this ("Blood for the Emperor, Skulls for the Golden Throne!"). I think one of the key ingredients for a Convent turning traitor is prolonged isolation from the rest of the Imperium. Without external correction from the Ecclesiarchy they could quite easily drift into chaos worship over a few generations, particularly if the world they are on already has a tainted presence, all the while genuinely believing that they are still righteous servants of the Emperor and that everyone else is wrong. With the galaxy split in half and a lot of worlds cut off it is quite feasible that we could see more traitor sisters, i think it can make for good stories.

I would not doubt that for every sister that decided to repent, another decided not too.

Can't wait to see what happens with the Khornate sisters from the Arks of Omen series. Already started buying Repentia to use as Jackhals for my World Eaters

Working on a Chaos Sister army. My internal debate was weather to focus on one chaos god or diversify...i think your video has convinced me of the later.
Genestealer Cults are my favorite lore wise...the 3rd story is so wild! I can imagine folks making a homebrew killteam of chaos cultists usung GSC bits.

Pardon my ignorance here as I have not finished the video yet but you mentioned only the Grey Knight was corrupted historically but didn't Khorne corrupt SoBs during the Arks of Omen, where he cast the murder curse on an entire solar system?

Would love to see one of your deep dives into Xeno's corruption because as I understand it it's unbeliavably rare for Tau with Por'Malcaeor being the only one (corrupted by Tzeentch) and Farsight very nearly in Arks of Omen until he banish Khorne from his mind. But I'm curious about Necrons, Eldar and Votann as my understanding of Votann is they can't be corrupted by chaos due to their safety systems giving them the weakest psykers but also the safest

One concept i do find interesting would be Lorgar, maybe with the help of one of the very rare cases of corrupted sister, would create an equivalent institution but for the worship of chaos, since the sister devotion being near unbreakable is one of their fun lore points, but they could still be a blueprint for one of Lorgar´s Projects.

I actually like the idea because like you said they’re just human and if primarchs and space marines can fall then they’re fall is all but guaranteed at some point if they live long enough

Chaos Sisters of Battle would be absolutely epic, and it makes sense. On one hand, I really want them to be a thing. On the other, I play Imperial Knights, and would like to have my Codex sooner than later.

I love the concept specifically as single fallen sisters every so often corrupted by particular situations but not as a larger group. I suppose in short it just has to be written well into the current setting.

Personally I like the idea that they CAN be corrupted but it should be rare. I'd also really kinda like it if their corruption is unstable so that while they may be corrupted they are likely to become Chaos Spawn or just die from it after a while. It would make them different.

Chaos sisters make complete sense. All you need is a Lorgar style shaking of faith and they would immediately find a new god. Heck, a bunch of Order of the Bloody Rose members are just a step away from being Khorne worshippers.

    My opinion:
No one is imune to the seduction of the "right" promise, not even the custodes. Some has just not been desperate enough... yet.
    But a whole army? 🤨

Considering the second a Sister is corrupted they send endless specialized kill teams to hunt her down, yeah, a whole army seems like an exaggeration. Especially since a Preceptory is 1,000 sisters and it's a big deal when it's just 1 that is corrupted.

I also love the idea of the sisters falling to corruption rarely. So I wouldn't be surprised that if they do come as models, it's more of a "it's not it's own thing but can be added in to armies as supporting characters but come few in number"
