Wolfpack is solely responsible for my interest in submarine simulator videos. It's a bit like golf if that makes sense, the shots are cool, but the lead up to the shots is dramatic itself.
Yeah I don't know much about subs either. But these games (with Wolf's great narration) make good vids (I feel) because there is a good pace, with great tension and interesting things happen with a good story (of missions) that progresses from episode to episode.
I imagine the Chief Engineering Officer tried to convince the Skipper to have the rudder fixed back in the Loch, but the Skipper’s hands were tied when the orders to set sail came through. Perhaps the higher ups deemed it a necessary risk that they preferred a slightly damaged but still scarily effective boat and crew to leaving the patrol zones to fresher, greener units.

Always got my fingers crossed you might get that “itchy batch”… when you fire a single torpedo up the baffles of 3-4 of them and intentionally keep it non-active until you scrape the paint on the trailing sub so when he fires off and alerts his friends, they all fire at said torpedo… and end up having to fudge and eat a dozen of their own while you sit back and laugh.
When hunting the USSR Subs, try to keep under 10/10 Rudder/Planes and use ballast only to control depth. The more control surfaces you use the more likely it is they hear you or you snap the wire.

Just today I was fooling around with manually guiding the torpedo to the target. I just love this game. BTW I also encounter suddenly "damage to something" without actually being hit. Hull on 100% yet I came out with rudder, planes and propulsion damage.
@@MichalProzac Did you get really close to the sea floor? There's been a couple times where my stern slapped to sea floor when I panicked and just hit max planes to avoid a full collision with the sea bed.
It's not the reason subs cannot hear in the baffles is because there own engine noise combined with the noise of the prop spinning in the water causes the sonar operator to hear there own engines over everything else
I wonder why the navies of the world have heavy and lightweight torpedoes. Ie the P8 Poseidon only uses the Mk54 lightweight vs and Mk48 ADCAP. The 737 airframe can carry plenty of payload. Also why do USN destroyers also use lightweights? Heavyweights are always better???
lightweight torpedos are most cost effectve agains submarines, but submarines use their 533mm against both surface ships and submarines so they stick to 1 callibre
It´s a game. In single-player games the design should support the player instead of the AI to encourage the player to keep on playing. Noone benefits from an AI winning too many battles. A commander/player learns by doing, too. I suppose the choosen Sub from wolfpack is top of the line so that encountered opponents have a real hard time to detect him. As the title says text-book, these were not tense at all. It is good to see he is not boasting about it. It is good to see what high end subs are capable of in this game. Well, I liked a earlier series with a weaker diesel-electric far more because man, these encounters were tense.
Second. Have you ever heard of Russian civilian cars? No? It's for the best. They are shit. Miracles don't happen. A country that cannot even produce a passenger car is not capable of producing a viable submarine.

In the DotMod wire snaps at above 15 kn. You can do as wild maneuvers as you wish below that.
I'll bet the rudder damage was left over from your last torpedo encounter. It's easy to miss damage when repairing in this game.
Yeah, you have to double-click on it in port to get it fixed. Only hull damage is auto-repaired.

The last I heard was that the main issue with the Alfas was that they built an strong and very expensive titanium hull but put in a noisy power plant.

Had they been damaged in a previous battle? If so, you have to manually select them to get fixed in port.

Light weight torpedoes are much easier to handle and deploy.
US USW aircraft and helos have Always carried lightweight torpedos. The Bombay is to small to carry the longer heavyweight torpedo.
