Good job, sounds great. I will make a three sting version with a through neck and therefore will not need to cut up a guitar to do it. Sentinel Guitars, Bozeman MT
I love the sound of Samantha Fish's oil can guitar but had wondered how you mount the neck - obvious when you think about it. Thanks
Thanks guys, this was a very helpful video. especially the trick with the room under the pickup is a very clever find. This summer i found me a pretty big can in Alquezar, a picturesque little village in the Spanish pyrenees wich is a mountain range running from Barcelona to the Spanish-Basque-French border around Bilbao on the Atlantic coast. You can do canyon walks on pathways that are built on the walls of the canyon and its just an amazing place. There is allegedly an alien base beneath those mountains and it is a beautiful and kind of eery area at the same time. Great place to visualize some conspiracy theories haha. Found a supercool little store with an old timer running the place. He has got some really weird stuff there and its just an adventure to explore places like that. He sold me an empty olive can approx. three times the size of what you use in the video and wich seems kinda big but you know what, im gonna do it anyway. Its got great colors and Spanish text with the olive brand and so on. Got plenty of parts and a cheap Indonesian J&D jaguar type guitar with great p90 pickups and a really good neck. Keeping quite a bit of space in the can will get me some serious reverb I would imagine. I might have to make something like a frame inside to keep the can from deforming and denting. Will keep you posted on my endeavors. In the mean time you can always listen to my Indie-Americana band called Wondertrees. Were on Spotify so easypeasylemonsqueezy. Kind regards from Amsterdam! Did you guys ever release part 2?? I cant seem to find it on your channel
I don’t think so, I’ll have to make a part 2 soon!
No step 2??? I got asked by several people if opening up the pickup mounting holes would drop the pickup in deeper, but since I'm still working on my first build I can't answer that question! ;)
Subbed.
Killer job guys!!!! Could you tell me how do you join the wood body to the can? Do you glue it? Thanks!!!!
We basically use a strat body, cut it down smaller, and bolt the body onto the neck, so the can is more like a pick guard
I’d like to make one of these for someone, does the type of guitar body matter? Or the neck?
Do you use the dremel to cut the front holes too?
Also if i wanted to make the bottom openable how would you reccomend adding a hinge and latch to it?
Great questions! We use the dremel to cut everything on the can- the whole for the neck, bottom, holes for pickups, etc. we screw the bottom into the wooden body. To make it more accessible, you could probably either use a latch or hinge, sounds like a good idea to try out
How does the internal body stay in place?
It bolts onto the neck, just like a strat. The can is basically the pick guard. The bridge also goes through the can and into the body
Good stuff lads. I have a load of art deco chocolate tins & boxes to make cbg type guitars. I have loads of great wood the right size for necks & parts & pups. Never a better time to build as we are all on lockdown. Stay safe in these scary times. Cheers lads. All the best from Liverpool U.K. Home to a lil beat combo you may have heard of? Lol. Godspeed.
Thanks!
@@JoeFlip Anytime guys. Stay safe eh? Weird times folks.
Where do you find the oil cans?
Usually on Ebay
JoeFlipMusic thanks. Which pickups do you like to use? I was thinking humbucker, but then what type?
Hear me out.Make the top of the can the bottom and you can route the jack thru the bottle cap and screw it back 😂💪
Nice!!
de-greasant to clean oil?
We’ve found that water and a brown scour pad works best, maybe a little dish soap but don’t let it sit long or it will fade the color
Music is mixed too loud but otherwise a great vid
It’s not much of a tutorial if you don’t show how you did what you did..
hey can i pay to have one made ? if so leave a number we'll chat
For sure, orders can be made on www.hayburnerguitars.com
