    For the AWD models, like the one you have, it is actually more efficient to NOT use i-Pedal and use level 3 regen instead. This is because i-Pedal forces the front motor to stay on all the time so that it can recoup energy when slowing down with both front and rear motor. However, this means that it will use both motors when accelerating as well. You don't lose out on any noticeable regen at all in level 3 driving mode, but you will gain the benefits of not using the front motor. This can equate to 15%-20% more total range. Also, if you really want to get even more range, the Auto regen mode is actually the most efficient. The car will decide whether to use almost no regen at all if you're just cruising and there are no cars in front of you, and then when it detects cars, it will use the necessary regen level to slow the car down instead. You can also get a bit more range if you really micro manage the regen levels, such as only switching to i-Pedal when you're about to come to a complete stop, then switching to Level 3 regen right before you start accelerating from a stop, but this is too much work.
    So to break it down to those who don't know. To get the most range without having to hyper mile or micro managing the regen levels:
    1. Stay in Level 3 regen or Auto. Don't use i-Pedal. This disengages the front motor.
    2. Stay in Eco or Normal drive mode. Sport will engage both motors. Other than that, Eco and Normal doesn't differ much since it's mostly just throttle mapping and steering wheel weight.
    3. Eco AC. I believe Eco drive mode will switch your AC to eco mode automatically.

      Don't sleep on level 0 regen mode either, which is the best when you're wanting to roll forward using none of the car's own power; just existing momentum and gravity. People need to learn how to dynamically use the regen paddles as they're driving instead of relying on i-pedal all the time if they truly want to get maximum efficiency out of their cars. It's honestly super fun once you get the hang of it. i-pedal is boring and inefficient.

      @@royjonzejr The only downside to Regen 0 is that if you do have to use the brakes for some reason, it won't blend them. Which is weird because that's not how older cars like the Kona EV worked.

    Took my first long trip last week. Started with a "stated" range of 330 miles. Drove 210 miles (normal highway driving, 70-75 mph). With 24 miles of remaining range (and 3 miles to the charging station), car left me stranded on side of highway. Lesson: do NOT get down to 10% which is really 0%.

    For all the trouble you went to you don’t do much better than my 2023 all-wheel-drive SEL has done over the course of 6900 miles and over six months. I’ve gotten 3.9 miles per kWh driving in normal mode using level one regeneration in auto mode. The car feels much spunkier that way, and I don’t drive it gently. Very happy with the economy of this car.

      The most efficient way is to travel at 0 regen, but to use regen to do all your slowing and stopping. The paddles right on the steering wheel makes this very easy, but it still takes getting used to and is a bit of work. Kind of like a manual transmission compared to an automatic. A little bit of work, but using the human brain as the cars computer yields the best results.

    I have had this car since march 2022. It is an excellent car until Elon Must lowered the price of the Tesla model Y long range and they are now nearly the same price except, the model Y is almost $9K cheaper overall because of additional federal tax deduction and state rebates. Two major problems with all Ioniq5's is the poor or faulty CCS charging network across America, second issue is it's non working over the air software updates. Even taking it to the Hyundai dealerships, service is very poor because a majority of them do not have experienced EV mechanics. Because of these two reasons, I want to get rid of my Ioniq%

    • @garryford6439
      @garryford6439 10 місяців тому +3

      All of you're comments are regional to your area and should not be construed as issues directly impacting the IONIQ 5. In Canada the CCS charging network is not an issue. My Hyundai dealership has excellent EV mechanics and the price difference between the model Y and the IONIQ 5 is way under the $9K you indicated because both vehicles receive the same rebate. Regarding the over the air updates that's a non issue also since eventually you will need to go to the dealer and most of the software is updated at that time without you even requesting it to be done. That's my regional experience since March 23rd 2022. Tesla makes a great BEV but so does Hyundai, their just different experiences to drive and maintain. It sounds like your region is more suitable for a Tesla but mine is as good for both.

    • @mrxman581

    Ye no i’ll be sticking to my ICE vehicle or plugin hybrid 😅. It seems like a lot to comprehend to understand the range figure on electric cars. I give yall props doing these range test and getting all the numbers situated cuz I myself would get it charged and call it day 😂. I hope we all payed attention on this review. But range is pretty good on this. Yes its conservative but yk that gives more time i guess for the vehicle like u guys said to learn the driving style of the owner. Though im quite sure if you’re on a hwy a lot most people do between 70-80. For the more aggressive drivers. 90-95 💀. Though i dont think we should be operating this like a hellcat.

      The more I see of EV range reviews and long trips the more I like my PHEV. I can get a realistic 900km (560 miles) per 43L (11.35 gallon) tank on a long trip... Then repeat that again after a 19 minute stop. Plus all my city driving day to day is in EV mode.
      I do think they are a much better solution for the vast majority of people. Hybrids for those that can't charge, PHEVs for those that can, and EVs for enthusiasts or for secondary commuter cars.

      if you do a long journey, chances are you will need the toilet or to go and stretch your legs anyway... by they time you have done that your car will be charged if using a rapid charger.
