As a Ecuadorian/Colombian teenager my father didn’t know anything about football but as I sat in front of the tv, eyes glued to the screen, I notice he joins me to watch this insane game. Whenever I see this game it reminds me of our short father/son moment. I had to explain everything to him 😂
Very true, Joshua Kline, and I was very glad Vince triumphed so spectacularly that night. But since then, the world has clobbered him, because he hasn’t shown the determination needed even to show up for work. So sad.
That was a fun year to watch college football, particularly because I wasn't a fan of either team. Vince Young and Reggie Bush were magic....every time they touched the ball, they could be off to the races.
Me too and I’m not even a Texas fan but that was one amazing camera shot. I also liked how their mascot hugged VY after the game winning TD. Awesome moment in college football.
And now he's a broke bum. He spent all of his money extravagantly. Like a fool. After football he went back to UT. He was then fired from UT for excessive absences and poor work performance. Most recently he was arrested for DWI in 2019. So sad.

A lot of guys spend every cent of their 1st contract and that 2nd contract is the one the sets them up for the rest of their life. The problem is that the 2nd contract isn’t a given and VY never got a 2nd deal. Plus he did stupid stuff with his money i.e. he once bought every seat on a Southwest flight just so he can fly alone. He earned 26M in the NFL and he definitely spent well over that 26M figure. He’s gonna have to live with those mistakes. I don’t really feel sorry for him either.
@@BudFuddlacker Jackson had a bunch of great calls that stuck with me throughout the years. In the 1985/86 Orange Bowl, he had his "Homerun Ball" call when Jamelle Holieway hit TE Keith Jackson for a 71 yard touchdown, which us Oklahoma fans will always remember. I imagine, Texas fans have immortalized the 4th and 5 call since they won the Natty on that play. I bet fanbases for each team have their own moments and calls that they'll always remember. Keith Jackson’s last game ever. A few weeks later, Super Bowl XL on ABC and the last ABC event for Al Michaels and John Madden. A few months later, ABC Sports becomes ESPN on ABC. ABC would never be the same again.
Sure. His OTHER last game EVER was when Tennessee Beat Florida State, and Won the National Championship with a 13-0 Record, and had beaten ALL the other Teams that were in the National Championship. They beat Syracuse the first game at Syracuse, with that awesome Black Quarterback. I can't remember his name. Like the next week, Syracuse traveled to The Big House, and STOMPED Michigan. At one point, it was 35-7, If I remember correctly.
I was a senior in high school watching this game on TV. All of my friends were USC fans and the look on their faces when they came to school the next morning was priceless.
@@vp_wrld that being said 2013-14 did feel all year like it could be the end of the SEC’s domination, you had a non-SEC team going undefeated with Florida State, while Alabama was the only SEC team in the top 5 for much of the season, although of course Auburn made a late run and beat Alabama in the kick-six game to get to the title game. This game marked the end of SO MANY eras: • The end of the USC dynasty of the mid-2000s. • The end of the original BCS era; college football would go to a BCS+1 format until 2013, then form the CFP in use today. • The end of ABC Sports’ telestial brand of college football; they’d outlet ESPN’s college football services beginning the following season and has been this way since. • Final game called by the legendary Keith Jackson; he retired after this game (and has sadly passed on). Dan Fouts would go-full duty to the NFL after this game, partnering with Ian Eagle at CBS until recently.
Dan Fouts actually did one season as a play-by-play guy (he wasn’t very good) for CFB on ESPN/ABC, before moving to the NFL on CBS in 2007 where he partnered with Dick Enberg.
Actuallly I’m a usc fan I think they dynasty ended when they lost to Oregon a few years later on Halloween cuz that offseason Pete carrol went to Seattle

I had been living in Texas since the military brought me to Austin in '86. And it was this game that I became a full-throated, 100% Texan. My Michigan siblings still don't understand why my allegiance is so strong, but they don't live here. This was the game that brought it home for me. Slightly off topic, I heard on sports radio before the game that a contingent of both teams happened to be at Disneyland at the same time. They recognized each other but had their game faces on. No communication. A cold war. But it was Young who went over and introduced himself, called the other Longhorns over to shake hands with the Trojans, and after that everything was chill. Great story.
My first time watching a National Championship game, and I did because USC is So California’s team, and my dad lived in Texas and was rooting for Vince Young, and I loved Reggie Bush. So it made it even more worth watching, but I did not know I was watching history.

Greatest Game of all time. I really feel like this was the peak of college football, where the old pageantry of the past met the present, modern style of football.
It was peak college football, I don't think there's ever been 2 teams that are can be in the top 5 greatest teams of all time playing each other in the national championship. Plus the fame of these players, Vince Young, Reggie Bush, Leinart they had as much fame as the tip top nfl players. Both teams loved their school and played hard for their school. That's different than today when most players just play for themselves and only see fans as a $.
I’m a Bama grad and a life long SEC fan but this was the greatest National Championship game in college football history, period. The announcing, venue, and game were perfect. The Tua throw for the championship was a great ending but this entire game was like a constant back and forth.
Funny story. I graduated from UT in 92 and moved to DC. I desperately wanted to get tickets to this game to enjoy with my c ollege friends. Had never used Ebay before and didn't really know the rules. I bid on several sets of tickets not knowing you couldn't take your bid back. I kept winning bids all night. I woke up my wife at 3 am in a panic - I just had "won" $18,000 worth of tickets. The good news is when we got to LA I was able to unload several of the tickets. When we arrived in Pasadena I was able to sell the rest and ended up making $2,000. Had I waited to sell them at the stadium, I would have killed it. People were offering $1,000 for single tickets! Best game I have every witnessed. Just incredible. The atmosphere was electric.
Most electric game of all time. A night ill never forget. What a battle! I dont think i sat down once during this game. Just jumpin around, pacing back and forth, hands on my knees, screamin n yellin, sweatin bullets. Just magical!

Certainly in the top 10. Are any American college football games ever televised in the Great White North? Figured there wouldn’t be much of an audience for it outside of the US. Then again, we can catch the occasional CFL game down here, so perhaps the national championship games show up on some minor channel up there.
It was incredible watching it live as a junior in high school! It's kinda surreal to look back on this game because even when you were watching it, you were astonished by how good of a game you were witnessing. You just knew this was a special game weeks beforehand, and then the pregame intro video with Will Ferrell and Matthew McCongaghey repping USC and Texas, and the back and forth heavyweight fight for 60 minutes, with a storybook ending. This was damn near two decades ago, and I still get chills when I remember what it was like to being watch this unfold live on tv as a young buck!

The most critical play was Vince knee on the ground and making the lateral… if that gets called down who knows how the whole game would have been or even if the kicker just makes the field goals but missed fg’s and play not being reviewed made the game what it was. Epic. Great finish

As a Ecuadorian/Colombian teenager my father didn’t know anything about football but as I sat in front of the tv, eyes glued to the screen, I notice he joins me to watch this insane game. Whenever I see this game it reminds me of our short father/son moment. I had to explain everything to him 😂

Vince Young vs The World.
*>Vince Young vs The World.*
Here we go again...
Very true, Joshua Kline, and I was very glad Vince triumphed so spectacularly that night. But since then, the world has clobbered him, because he hasn’t shown the determination needed even to show up for work. So sad.
Vince vs The World? My money's on Vince...
Texas vs the World... Vince never put himself above the team or this Great State
That was a fun year to watch college football, particularly because I wasn't a fan of either team. Vince Young and Reggie Bush were magic....every time they touched the ball, they could be off to the races.
The shot of Vince Young with the confetti falling as he celebrates is one my all time favorite moments in Sports.
Get chills everytime.
So sad.
@@pantherowow77 yeah it’s a shame when you read about guys mismanaging their money to the point of bankruptcy.
It reminds me of Joe Namath running toward The Locker Room after SB3
reminds me of Kobe Bryant celebrating after winning Game 7 against the Celtics in 2010.

Keith Jackson's immortal voice of college football. God bless him.
@@ericgamino478 yeah he’s great, I love Keith, but best calls in football history? Ahhh come on now, let’s turn the hyperbole dial down a tad
Just one more reason to love sports.
Young was just different. He never got crazy after making a great play. He was so reserved, it's so refreshing to see him do work and not celebrate. It's like he knew he would do it. When the other guys celebrate crazy, it's like they are surprised they actually made a great play, Young just was like, I got this....even after the confetti, just so stoic...poised. Wonderful moment in NCAAF. I remember this live...Incredible game....
Man, the Rose Bowl just produces great games. This year, Georgia Oklahoma, PSU and USC, just a fantastic venue for a historic game.

I think in 2005 Michigan and Texas played in the Rose bowl and it was a damn good game too.

This was the last year where the SEC was largely irrelevant in college football-truly a different era indeed.
I miss it. Texas and USC make the sport better when relevant.

2014
@@dubvideos Alabama was in the playoff as the #1 seed in 2014
@@vp_wrld that being said 2013-14 did feel all year like it could be the end of the SEC’s domination, you had a non-SEC team going undefeated with Florida State, while Alabama was the only SEC team in the top 5 for much of the season, although of course Auburn made a late run and beat Alabama in the kick-six game to get to the title game. So you could at least make the case for 2013-14
One of the best upsetting wins by Texas vs USC. I remember when USC was the most dominant team in college football around this time.
I wish USC played LSU in '03

This game marked the end of SO MANY eras:
• The end of the USC dynasty of the mid-2000s.
USC still had teams with legitimate claims in 06, and 07....
Yo that running back duo on USC side was legit af. Those griffin brothers on Texas were some dogs 🔥🔥🔥

ONE OF THE BEST 🏈 GAMES YOU WILL EVER SEE .. IT HAD EVERYTHING ..
I watched this game live. And it was crazy. It was almost like the Chargers Raiders in Week 18. Just a back and fourth battle. I use to play this game over and over on NCAA almost all the time. This is the game that got me into college football.
Who were you rooting for? How was that environment in person???
@@jamiecurtis8503 oh my bad. When I said live i watched it live on TV. I wish I was there. From what I heard from interviews from people who went to the game. They said it was like a superbowl. I mean the watch party I was at when I watched this was nuts. I can only imagine it live.
As a USC fan, this game still gets me! Best college game ever!
Been a college football fan since the mid 70s and this is definetly one of the best, if not the best game I have ever seen😎👍🏽❤️🏈
Greatest game ive ever seen! So much hype around USC, no one had Texas even being close in this game. Vince was unstoppable!! Still watch this game time to time! 🍿
You said it, even the announcers where in shock.

Anyone who watched Vince Young beat Michigan 38-37 in the previous year's Rose Bowl would have known he'd be a lot to handle for USC.

I was on campus in 05. That Texas team would have stomped today’s team. Studs. It took time to build that machine. Texas still needs a few wins under its belt and a few more studs to be 05 good.
