@@ScottLegerHorn Can you hit it on the double side or do you need the triple? I can go to Ds and maybe slightly above on my double but have never hit double f 😂
I think this sounds better with french horn than trumpet. It really catches a different feeling which I think is better. You really did good on this and I wish to be just as good as you or better.
I find it interesting that in the top right clip your fingers are straight and flat on the levers, but in the other three clips your fingers are very arced.
Top right is when he plays the high F#. It allows him to put more pressure on the mouthpiece I think. I play horn, that's kind of a cheat to get high notes. Also you can just see him nonchalantly pressing the trigger before he plays the high bit, a bit like "stratosphere... ACTIVATE"
@@somebody9033 I play horn as well, and I've always been taught to not do that lol. But maybe its just unavoidable to have more pressure when playing *that* high. And as a saxophonist, my teachers would be quite disappointed if they saw my fingers straight and tense. But you can definitely get away with it when not playing fast :P
@@cjkellner Yes, but you've probably never played a double F#. Some pressure is inevitable up there. The issues are when you use pressure on notes within the staff like many beginners do. When you're in the double range, you gotta use a bit of pressure lol
Hey Scott! I know this video is a year old but I have a question. Does the angle you hold your horn effect your playing? I see a lower angle for the lower parts and a raised angle for the higher parts. I'm just curious if it effects your pitch or anything. Thank you!
1st, 2nd, and 3rd are like any other brass. Then you have an additional stop valve on this model, lowering the played notes by roughly a quarter tone to keep things in tune. Then you have the Thumb triggers, one raising the horn’s fundamental to B flat, and the other to E flat/F alto.
Pardon my ignorance but i want to understand what aspects make it a difficult piece for the horn other than the violin runs? Because Dvorak's melody here seems a bit linear.
the F# is crazy 😭
is it that one note near the end?

Nah the double F#, violin runs, and control is honestly insane to play on the horn. Massive W🔥
I did this with my youth orchestra, but I got braces fitted a week before the concert so someone else had to play the first horn part 😭

Why does the triple horn have 7 valves and not 5? A double horn only has 4 3 main and Bb so shouldn’t a triple have 5 3 main and a Eb and Bb?
