Have you seen The Crayon? Stephanie Beatriz really got range with different voices! In that play, she plays a pre-teen, but not in the same way that she did another pre-teen's voice in Twelve Forever (she was a guest in the 2-parter Locked Out Forever). Lations get screwed in TV, make up majority of the minority population and get very lil representation and never complain. Blk ppl get half the representation with being one the smallest minority in the country and still complain there isnt enough blk ppl on tv.

Tbh I'd never really noticed the show had two Latinas.
It is a diverse cast and that's brilliant and that's how it should be.
I'm glad they say in interviews how there are two latina actresses in the cast though just to kind of shed a light on how odd it is that it is a rarity. We should have more inclusion and representation across the board! :)
The best thing I loved about Nine-Nine is that they don't make it look forced. Heck, in terms of representing different sexualities/sexual preferences, they handled it in a non-forced, very natural, and very realistic fashion with, ofcourse, the necessary theatrics and comedic tone to them.

you didn’t get the point.. obviously she didn’t mean it as an absolute fact and that there’s not one other show in the world with two latinas 🙄 she meant it as in general cause like every clued up person knows, this is a white mans world and these shows do these inclusions of non whites usually just to hit a quota or something. The issue around Diversity and inclusion and integration isn’t a myth, it ain’t made up, it’s evidently very real. What are they supposed to do? A TV show has a limited number of openings for cast members. If you want to make good entertainment, you need to cast for talent and chemistry among the cast. Not just deal out cards from some diversity deck.

Tis is like the only show where they have every race, every gender and every type of people but it just comes together sooo perfectly that you don't even notice the characters are so diverse. it doesn't feel like they used people other than whites because it was a formality. Its just sooooo

@@skrevel maybe not as part of the main cast but if you look at all the characters that appear there's a fair few Asian characters that come into it. I think you're just picking apart what the guy commented for no reason. The main cast consists of a variety of different people and is still one of the most diverse out there. So you can pick apart his comment for brownie points but the show is still very diverse

The casting of this show was superb. They didn't tick boxes or look to do anything but cast the best suited actors for each role. Being in the UK I didn't realise only one latina ever being cast was a thing until this interview. Both Stephanie and Melissa (Furmeno) were absolutely perfect for their respective roles but I'm really curious to see the tape of Stephanie auditioning for the Amy role. The recurring roles were also excellently cast such as Kevin, Wuntch and The Vulture.
I. She's gorgeous. Wow. What she said is absolutely true. No other tv show has two latinas unless it's one latina and then her guest star mom or sister. Two main character latinas never happens. Brooklyn Noine-Noine is a blessing.
It's not, though? I mean there's likely more than this, but this is what I can think of top of my head.
- One Day at a Time has an entire Latino family with many females
- Jane the Virgin has an entire Latino family with many girls
- The Charmed remake cast 2 Latinas as the main cast
- Runaways has two Latinas in the main cast
- On My Block has at least two Latinas (and a few Latinos) in the main cast
- Stuck in the Middle also has a Latino family (with lots of girls in)
- Vida has at least two Latinas in the main cast
I mean for real I know a multi-Latinx cast is not THE most common thing but to act like it literally doesn't happen is kinda ignorant.

because no one in the world knows more than one Latina/Latino or more than one non white person, for that matter. Right? I think it is awesome that the cast of Brooklyn Nine Nine is diverse without it being made a big deal of all the time. In my life, I know a wide rainbow of people. Kudos to this show for being the funniest on tv and the most realistic in its casting.

From the beginning Brooklyn 99 has been one of the most inclusive shows I've seen, and by far one of the best and funniest. Hearing that Stephanie thought she didn't get a part because of diversity issues is wild after seeing the show ❤
What she didn't tell us is... Why did the name of the role change from Megan to Rosa?
I think they wanted to give her a traditionally Latina name having cast her, you know to properly cement her as one of two Latina characters :)

This is the first time that I've seen her when I didn't think she would punch me in the throat just for fun. She is so good in that character.
Once Rosa finds her stride in the show she's arguably the best character.
One of my other favorite roles of hers is also Glorias sister Sonia in "Modern Family" .
There's one more recent episode, where Gloria spoils her gold digging scheme And I love it! Hahahaha
interviewing her is a true testament to her acting ability. She's so different. It's pretty impressive.
