My condolences. I just lost my FIL who I admired. He was a wonderful man who was 99 years old. He was instrumental in the space program and such memories as I'm sure you have with your grandfather. He is with you always.

Justine, I’m so sorry to hear about your grandfather. I’m almost 62, and all my grandparents have been long gone, and how I miss them. They were wonderful people and my brother and I were so blessed to have them in our lives. Even though they’re gone, their memories live on and always will. Oh, that's cool that Geoffrey Chaucer (one of the most famous English poets in history; he wrote the Canterbury Tales, one of the most detailed and important accounts of Medieval life in England) was the first to mention Valentine's Day in print! He calls it "Seynt (Saint) Valentine's Day" because it was an actual Saint's Day on the Catholic church calendar; it was probably the guy who was martyred for preaching Christianity, who was made a saint. The two guys named Valentine could actually be the same person: he just preached Christianity AND married people, in defiance of the Roman Emperor's decrees on both issues.
Also, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather. It's so hard to lose family members who have been a part of your family for as long as you can remember.

Dixie Gunworks MI0752 Tinderlighter $145. Unfortunately it's listed as "Currently Unavailable", but it is still listed, so maybe they might be getting them in again. I have one I bought about 10 or 12 years ago that i use in my firemaking demonstrations. It is a pretty faithful reproduction.

Why do you have a black ribbon on your arm?
Orange or Lemon Tart. Take 6 large lemons, rub them well in salt, put them into salt and water and let rest 2 days, change them daily
in fresh water, 14 days, then cut
slices and mince as fine as you
can and boil them 2 or 3 hours till
tender, then take 6 pippins, pare,
quarter and core them, boil in 1
pint fair water till the pippins
break, then put the half of the
pippins, with all the liquor to the
orange or lemon, and add one pound sugar, boil all together one quarter of an hour, put into a gallipot and squeeze thereto a fresh orange, one spoon of which, with a spoon of the pulp of the pippin, laid into a thin royal paste, laid into small shallow pans or saucers, brushed with melted butter, and some superfine sugar sifted thereon, with a gentle baking, will be very good. N.B. pastry pans, or saucers, must be buttered lightly before the paste is laid on. If glass or China be used, have only a top crust, you can garnish with cut paste, like a lemon pudding or serve on paste No. 7.
A Paste for Sweet Meats. No. 7. Rub one third of one pound of butter, and one pound of lard into two pound of flour, wet with four whites well beaten; water q: s: to make a paste, roll in the residue of shortning in ten or twelve rollings-bake quick. I always enjoy watching you guys cook on Early American, as you try out recipes from the 1800’s and make them the exact same way they were made back then. I love the way you guys make history come alive like this!!
As for tonight’s recipe - even though I’ve made a countless number of puddings, custards, and creams over the years; I was surprised & excited to learn something new when Ron made the chocolate cream.
It never occurred to me to strain puddings through a sifter to make them smoother. This is an AWESOME trick, and one I’m DEFINITELY going do whenever I make pudding or custard - especially when any little lumps form as you are stirring and cooking it…

I loved the pictures of you and Ron modeling the clothing. It reminded me of when I used to make historical clothing for some of the docents at some of the different historical buildings in Central Ohio. I even did historically correct outfits for the children for “Old Worthington Days”. Even for them I only did historically correct outfits. I miss doing them, but my hands won’t let me now. I love both of your channels. Watching the two of you together just makes my heart burst with joy. ❤❤❤
My husbands grandparents were emigrants from Sicily. His family always made EVERYTHING from scratch compared to mine where everything came from a box. His Mom made a pudding filled tart (Pasticciotti ). When I inquired about the recipe and mentioned how many boxes of pudding she used, I was scoffed at me and told me the pudding was made from scratch. In my ignorance, I never knew pudding was made from scratch!!! Will never eat box pudding again!

Conner Prairie is one of my favorite places. My 1st trip was when my son was in 4th grade. I loved loved loved it. Found out about Prairie Town Christmas Eve 1836 and would drag all my friends for years. Of course, they didn't appreciate it as much as I did. Haven't been there for a while, but my Grandson takes his 4th grade school trip to Conner Prairie this year. I'm hitching a ride, can't wait.

Justine... my condolences on the passing of your grandfather 😔. My mother passed 2 yrs this July, shy of 4 months, being 98. She also drove her car until she was 94. That was a very special & strong generation. Loved your modeling pictures! 😊

I'm so glad you enjoyed Conner Prairie. We used to live near it all our lives until we moved to southern Indiana. We've spent many happy times there from its very early years back in the early 1960s till just recently. We love the Legend of Sleepy Hollow reenactment hayride in October and participated in the Follow the North Star journey. Thoroughly enjoyed that interactive event. I don't think they are doing that anymore though, sadly.
Justine we're sorry about the loss of your grandfather. That's a hard one to deal with and its a loss of so much family info and wisdom. My grandparents came from Syria and Lebanon in the early 1900s. They also were Christian.
The poet was Geoffeey Chaucer (Chosser). He was a pretty famous English poet. He is fictionalized in the movie A Knights Tale.

He was handsome in both the old and new photos. God heard your beautiful prayer. I'm sure your granddad is having chats with Jesus. I lost a good friend on Tuesday. She was 97 years old, and was a vibrant, smart and funny lady.

Justine, so sorry to hear of your Grandad's departing, we said :see you later", to our Mom in 2016, on Feb. 13th, she was 98, and sharp as good be until about 95, when she developed Sundowners, during the day she was great, so many stories of a long, and often hard life, but she and my Dad, had a solid marriage and had 7 children. I miss them every day, and know how blessed we are to have had them. Cherish your memories always!

No matter how old one is when they are gone it’s not an easy thing.
Sounds like he had a long eventful and interesting life God gave him.
It’s sad to lose those we love.But Jesus does promise those who believe eternal life that was meant for everyone a gift to be where Jesus has prepared a place for those who love him.
In your dear prayers that you prayed you had mentioned that we all are sinners and that is true and that’s when Jesus died for us all while we were still sinners so that we could live again and be forgiven through him.
That is an important and good prayer to pray to God.
A great promise is that if we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.(1 John 1:9) and to All who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
That’s neat but was not easy of course about how he was in a Christian minority group but interesting that he was an Assyrian just as there were in the Bible, and cool that they spoke Aramaic as Jesus did.
You have quite some heritage Justine.

Finaly , I was scrolling you tube, and came across a channel called Missouri living, the video was Ste. Genivive. I was like, oh wow. So it is your typical programming about your home state, so I decided to watch it, and learned some nice things. One segment was about a pewter business that resides there. I am sure you know of them, I 'm sorry I don't remember the exact name, I want to say T&P pewter. The most neat thing about the program was when they were showing reenactment footage, who do I see? Non other than you Ron. 👍❤

I’m sorry for your loss, my 94 year old father passed in November and he was sharp like your grandad. He gave me his car the month before. He loved driving. When I saw your black armband I wondered if it was for mourning. ❤
