I got the 40v 12" latent model and I am extremely happy about my purchase, very accurate and powerful direct motor and cuts trough anything effortless, the con the saw is on the heavy side , but I installed it on bosch gravity mitre saw stand and its awesome, dont hesitate of buying the saw its an amazing mitre saw

I had LS1018L for a 1 year. I sold it because of space and yesterday i got my new 19L... it is like 100% difference, everything is far better than 18L.
Just picked up a used LS1019L tonight. Hope it will serve me well, but initial thoughts when testing it are very positive and overall build quality is top notch!

I am a cabinet maker and I had this mitre saw in my workshop some time back, a stunning saw to look at, a very pretty machine but sadly dreadfully inaccurate when in use, the saw enters a cut and leaves the cut perfectly, unfortunately between the entrance and exit the saw head deflects alitttle causeing the cut to curve or cup! I contacted my tool agent and they where kind enough to have the saw returned, I invested in a Festool Kapex and so far a much more accurate saw, very straight and clean cuts, the Kapex was indeed a good deal more in terms of purchase cost, but in my workshop and business a good deal more accurate! Louie's Workshop that’s crazy, I actually can’t believe how accurate mine is, now I have seen videos where they say the bars that are there for it to slide tend to be slightly bend a little, don’t know why but that’s one reason.
You must of had a bad one as I've been using mine to rough down pieces prior to putting onto my cnc bed and I know it's a true cut as I don't need to face the surface prior to starting the cycle. A very good and accurate saw from my use and it's been under use now for a year and still as good as new.
@@dejanbrice8774 You use the term, " To Rough Down", I am sure and also confident that your mitre is capable of achieving this task, however as a cabinet maker my work requires a great deal more accuracy and thus the Kapex is my saw of choice, the DeWalt and Makita and many others are good saws however good isn't good enough for fine bespoke furniture you require the Kapex.
This has been a common complaint for some of these saws, and there is a fix for the problem that is described in the Festool Owners Group forums of all places. The problem is the on SOME of the saws the two rails are not coplanar, causing the saw motor to be slightly out of line with the rails. On long cut, it causes it to cup. The two rails can be realigned. It takes a beer and a bit of time but you can adjust so they provide a perfectly strait cut for cabinet use. I held back from getting one of these because of some of the reviews about the curved cut, but after finding the fix, I've ordered one and will tweak it as needed. Honestly - I've owned several types of compound miter saws over the years, and ALL of them have needed some kind of adjustment to get a dead square cut. I check and adjust mine on a regular basis. Hauling them in and out of a work truck every day is hard on 'em, but after a quick 'tune up' they're fine.
@@telebruce221 Hi Tele, thankyou for your detailed and knowledgeable reply. All machinery does indeed require from time to time adjustment to enable the end user the very best results yet this is not an adjustment issue we are referring to here. I personnel see this as a major design or possibly manufacturers fault. When my Kapex requires adjustment it is simply to true up a 90 degree cut or 45 but it's two beams or sliding posts do not move, these elements are the fundamental foundation of the saw. Secondly many reports have been made public about the very same problem this saw seems to have for many of its owners. It's a stunning saw to look at but if the cut curves or cups then in my occupation the saw sadly fails.
I just retired as a professional builder and cabinemaker after 40 years of work. I am down sizing my jobsite tools, and, want to sell my DeWalt sliders, i have three, One is the orignal one they produced, and, it has worked perfectly for twenty years. But, i am thinking about this Makita, and, your review did a good job.

Cheers for that. I'm a makita man, every tool I have is a makita except for my mitre saw which is a Ryobi. Sigh... I was wanting to get this model of makita, but I heard so many people gripe about them not running true on a full cross cut, so I decided to go with festool. having watched this review, I'm glad I haven't gone down that route yet. This will save me an absolute fortune on the green and black tax. I suppose there will always be people out there that have nothing better to do with their time but gripe about things, those who will gripe about not having anything to gripe about, know what I mean 😕 Cheers again.

Great review. Thanks mate. Watched it last night and bought it (the saw) this morning. Was quite expensive but then we pay through the nose Down Under ($849A) 240v version (LS1019 - no laser which is not a big issue for me as I can judge it pretty well). It is made in China but there is 'Made in China' and there is 'MADE IN CHINA'. Reality is the Dewalt, Metabo and all the other brand bar the top end are all made in China these days. As for dust, I hooked it up to a 1HP dust extractor which is good for the fine dust but fails to suck everything. I have not tried it with the bag or vacuum cleaner just yet. This is a fantastic machine, the motor start is just amazing when compared to my old Makita LS1040 and the fact you can bump it against the wall is a huge plus because I have a small workshop. Would like to know how you secure it to the benchtop or do you use a portable saw table. If so which one do you recommend. Makita was not available today, just Dewalt and some no-name brand so I passed.
. . . . and of course a few years down the track it is now over AU$300 on top of what you paid. Australia really is scammer central.

Phil - great review of this tool. You have a great way of explaining/demonstrating it. I'll be getting one, but after a lot of research, with the understanding that Makita is having Quality Control issues, and I may end up with one that needs work. Fixable, but why? Anyway, Great job. I am a carpenter/cabinetmaker for 40 years. In the video, I see you're using the Makita saw stand. Have you considered building a Paulk stand?
I will say the stand is definitely not mobility friendly and is very tippy, I added a 1/4” plate and widened the track width of the wheels. An old man was wheeling his new one out and it was so narrow it tipped right over and broke some of the plastic.
i bought the dewalt 12 miter sliding saw and not really impressed with it at all. power is fine but the dust collection is horrible and i just have a hard time getting it tuned up. i think i will switch it out with this saw. thanks for the review.

We do have a Makita LS0815FL 216MM mitre saw but unfortunately its not cutting straight. I calibrated it when i got it and 2 months later it was cutting at an angle. On 90 deg cut for 200 mm board its about 2 mm of.

Have this saw. Had it about 8 months. Really disappointed with it. Took me ages to true up. And once set up I found that when you set a bevel cut it put the blade 1 degree off square. No amount of adjusting sorted this. SoI have to set my bevel and remember to set it off square everytime i do a bevel cut. Also cutting at full length capacity it gives you a weird stepped cut. Tried adjusting the slide rails but never really ever fixed it properly. WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN.
Since I made this video a lot of these issues came to my attention. Hopefully Makita has sorted out all these faults in their newer models. 👍👍

I had EXACTLY this problem. I managed to sort out the dished slide cut and everything else was nice. But as soon as I tried a bevel, it went out of square to the fence. I tried to live with it but that was the end for me.
On the Makita website is the LS1219L 12" miter saw in all its glory. I don't see any videos on BoobToob about it.

This is a very good machine .but it’s Achilles heel is when you rotate the saw a lot the pin wears the slots in the ring gear as it made of stamped alloy you then loose accuracies .but you can buy replacement ring plate .but that’s not the point

Hi. Are you still using this saw? Still like it? I'm wondering about a couple issues I've read about: 1) I've read the saw cuts in an arc such that with a 90 degree cut, the center of the cut will be scooped. Sounds like that might be blade deflection, but have you found this to occur for you? 2) have you had a problem with the detents for the common angle cuts to wear out? Apparently the miter detent plate is aluminum and those slots get worn through use and then create slop and inaccuracies with cuts. Thanks!
Yeah I've had these issues, I no longer use this saw anymore but keep it for bigger 1st fix jobs.

Yea I wouldn't say I'm a Makita fan by any means but I've been looking for a miter saw lately and I'm liking the Makita, kinda torn between that and the bosch. Not really interested in any of the saws that have the rail protruding out the back as I wanna incorporate the saw into my bench.
Hi Phil great video fella I herd you mention the saw is great for kerfs so does this mean it has a trenching lock I am at present thinking about buying this saw to replace my dewalt radial arm saw which is great for trenching so is it possible to lock the blade height and slide the saw forward and backward ???
Yes it has this feature, and also allows you to change between kerfing and standard full depth cutting without having to change the kerf depth each time.
Has anyone had trouble with this saw tipping over when moving it on the WST06 Stand? I called Makita today to try to get a different stand and they claim to have never hear that it was an issue putting a 60lbs saw that is 32" deep on a 10" wide stand? All they would have to do is set the wheels a little wider and it would be much more stable. Once this thing starts to tip, there's no stopping it if you're pulling it. I even tried setting the saw way forward to improve the center of balance.
Makita are definitely aware of issue of the tipping. The wheels definitely need to be wider apart. I don't move my saw on the stand unless it's a smooth flat surface that it's rolling on .

This is the second review of this saw that I've watched and not a single mention as to whether it can cut grooves/dados. I'm guessing this feature is not available on this model.
Great video mate. Just wondering if the saw is supposed to lock at 0degree bevel or do you have to twist the top nob every time? Doesn’t seem to speedy
The saw stops at 0 degrees and 45 degrees automatically from vertical to left pitch. To change to right pitch a button must be pressed. And to activate positive stops at 22.5 and 35 degrees a separate lever must be switched.

Sure would be nice if you'd do some compound angle cuts or just lay the crown on its angle using the fence. How tall a crown can the saw handle if crown is set in it's angle against the fence and deck then chopped at a 45? Is it hard to hold a piece when saw is laid down to the right or left, (saw gets to close to the boards surface when laid over?) Can you easily add to the fence length, (Maybe some tapped holes to attach to?)
What is the difference in use between the Makita 10 inch vs the 12 inch miter saw? Why would one choose one over the other?
lets talk about my saw a 12 in and the one piece fence. currently when i lay a true steel across the fence there is a gap at the saw track on both sides. this gap creates an angle when the wood is only contacting one side of the fence thus an untrue cut. what's going on. I ordered a replacement to no avail ??? secondly this gap also causes a creep fwd effect when a two fence contact point cut is completing, thus jamming the saw...

Thanks for tips. What's it with modern tools and poor accuracy? I got this saw after a of of research & weighed it up against the space saving Bosch. Their 10" model does not appear to be available in NZ. However the 12" BOSCH GSM also has many complaints posted regarding accuracy. I got the LS1019L and am generally really pleased with.
Biggest gripes are with the less than adequate manual, lack of decent tutorial on how to use, small print and difficult to follow instructions to follow for making adjustments. Out of the box it needed immediate adjustments. Grrrr. These proved to be really fiddly, as did laser aligment. Once properly set up it proved a worthy choice and replacement for my old Electra Bekum.
Buzz points: soft start, saw brake, accuracy, dust collection.
It's a mystery, some new tools flop right away, some ancient tools still reign supreme. I didn't read the instructions if I'm honest, but having maybe a QR code you could scan that directed you to an instructional video that would be super helpful. Yes those buzz points are the best, this whole tool is almost the 'best of' different styles of saw that should benefit the long term user. Thanks for the comment!

Dont. Too many issues with it. Bevel cuts aren't square. Slide rails give you a stepped cut, if you have to cut at full capacity you will notice it a lot. Nice features, poor accuracy.

@@fatdogslow8011 I had that trouble. Bevel cuts not being square. But vertical cuts were square. Then the slide cuts were curved. Gave up eventually and got a different brand.

@@m1k3y96 hi, I got a DeWalt dw717xps for day to day use out and about. It's been trustworthy for accuracy although not as nice and smooth to operate as the Makita and dust collection is worse. Also bought a kapex 120 for my shared workshop. Have hardly touched it due to more site work and then lockdown so haven't got much to say on it yet.

No there isnt. But the rails arent set right so you get a stepped cut at full extension.

Great Video's. I have a question that I hope you might be able to answer for me. Do you know what depth / thickness of timber this saw will cut through. Everywhere I read seems to say something different. I want to cut 200mm x 100mm timber, such as the modern pine garden sleeper. I have a project coming up and my old Makita Chop saw doesn't have slides so it is time for an upgrade! But it would have to cut sleepers. Being a massive Makita fan I don't want to go away from them but that said a lot people seem to have a moan about the curved cuts aswell? What is your opinion having owned it for a while? Would I be better off with the Dewalt dws780 maybe? With the current situation we are all in meaning I can't pop into my local tool shop for a look, I really would appreciate any advice. As an LS1013 owner of 15 yrs, I really wanted to buy this saw, but too many reviews saying that it cuts in an arc when sliding...not a straight line..aka "Dishing". It kinda needs to cut STRAIGHT ! Total deal breaker . I don't understand why you're saying it's "unbelievably accurate" .

you are correct,i bought one as soon as the arrived and the local makita sales rep came to my house and took it to their engineers, they replaced half the saw and it still cut with an arc. I unfortunately had to return it. I love my Most of my Makita products, but i need a more accurate saw.
can you show me a phtoto what means cutting an arc? i'm about to buy this saw next week, most likely for segments for bowls. is it an issue?

yes i did, for about 530$. and i regret it. it seriosuly is doing arcs on longer cuts. it's embarassing.
actually i bought it for segmenting woodturning. but the precision of that thing is so ridiculous off that i still cut my segments on the table saw. i need to have down to 0.25 degree correct angles. table saw is easy to align with a correct jig, but this thing i just don't get aligned at all. but hey, i recently cutted some 2x4 with it. on a 45 degree angle. and they didnt fit. i really regret the purchase. i'm in thailand and warranty is on the motor. nobody takes the saw back. so either i sell it on a hefty loss (maybe 400$ somebody takes it) or i use it to catch dust on the shelf.

I've just purchased the ls1019l. Having some issues with the bevel adjustment. When I first tried it, I was able to bevel over it worked fine. But now it's stuck in that position. The turning locking clicks when I rotate it either direction. The button in the back now doesn't release. Any thoughts?

Yes you can. It has a tab that moves in and out....and a bolt through a nylon bushing. Pull it out...set you depth with the bolt using your fingers and away you go. As with any saw you will need to use a sacrificial board against the fence so the curvature of the blade doesn't crest a curved lap joint.
Great review! I’m looking at this saw vs the Bosch 10” axial glide. The dust management seems like a plus on this saw. I’d like to put this saw on a 24” deep work counter that backs up to a wall. I know that the Bosch will go right up against the wall. Looks like with the Makita, you can’t put it right up against the wall due to the dust hose input at the back. With a 37mm hose in place, how far out from the wall do you think I would need to put the Makita?
Hey Steven, from the further part of the back of the saw to the vertical back bracket that you push your timber up against is 360mm. Yes the hose does have to stick out a little but if you are just using the dust bag you don't need to worry. Thanks!

I'm a new subscriber and appreciated your video.I recently bought the M18 Milwaukee battery mitre saw and am very disappointed with it.I don't class it as a finish carpentry saw, too much head deflection, not enough power from x1 9ah battery, lack of accuracy.I'm looking for a replacement and have had x2 Makita mitre saws in the past and was generally pleased with them so am tempted to buy this model you have but have been put off by reviews showing curved cuts and head deflection.What's your experience with this?

I have had a couple of teething problems I'll admit.
I have been cutting lots of laminated MDF recently and tried to cut a bevel in some Hardwood Sepele. It didn't seem to be cutting square, this could have been down to the blade becoming worn or the timber itself being out of square. I had to adjust it ever so slightly to glide across my square pencil mark, but most likely the cause was the blade trying to lift as it cut.
As for it being a 1st or 2nd fix saw, I really believe it's the best of both.
You can cut large stock and not take up so much room with the saw itself.
Would definitely consider the cordless version if it financially suited you.

WARNING- Bought mine today, wow what a nice running machine, feels great... Too bad it cuts crooked. I put a dial indicator on it and as you pull the saw forward I get 4-5 thou movement. The 20-year-old Porter Cable I'm replacing only deflects 1-1.5 thou. The Rails aren't parallel to the cut path.
Isn't this adjustable?
4-5 thou on wood. No complaints. Use .001 grade wood glue!
These tools can also be calibrated.
Most saws, out of the box, benefit from calibration. Lots of yt vids about how to calibrate a saw.

Mark Wilkinson DAEWST06, not a great stand if I'm honest, I was told that the Dewalt stands did not fit the Makita LS1019 however I've seen guys use it.
I have noticed a few off angles, the saw definitely needs a good tune out of the box. As for the curving I'll get the saw out tomorrow and do a test and get back to you on that one 👍 thanks for.the comment Mark
Phil i have a dewalt stand, which is fine but a bit of a lump to carry around and the extendable arms tend to drop when fully extended and the supports drop too so im forever adjusting them. Plus the cheap plastic thumb screw locking knobs are weak and flimsy.
Alot of newer stands have wheels which will make transporting around easier.
Your stand looks shorter than mine which will make it lighter plus the alloy mounting bar looks a smaller profile.
So what dont you like about it?

Mark Wilkinson hello Mark, the weight of the saw is largely at the back half, so if you want to wheel the saw around you have to bring the saw forward on the brackets quite a bit to counter the weight, this means that you're not getting the full surface of the extendable supports. I've had a few people who follow me on Social Media ask about the stand so I think I will do a review video going into depth of my views and opinions of this stand 👍
Hi Phil, really great informative video. I am wondering if you are still as happy with this saw? I am considering replacing my 16 year old Makita LS1013 and have been looking at the 1019. I am a general joiner/ carpenter doing 1st and 2nd fix and I have been very happy with the 1013 but it is getting tired. I would really appreciate an update on your opinion.

@@jimbow2310 Hi Jim, I am still with the 1013. I spent a bit of time on it and it's still going strong. Stopped at a joiner in the street using a new Makita saw last week and asked him how he liked it. He said Makita have cut corners and the build quality isn't the same as the old ones. I'm hoping I get a few more years out of mine.
@@EricOfPendom My ls1013 still being used in my workshop i just cannot carried it around on site anymore, i need something lighter
