- When it's summer time in Texas, watermelon is a must and when we saw one with a unique tag on it, we headed out to Balmorhea to meet watermelon farmer Luke Brown.
Went to Balmorhea and met Luke. Very nice man. He is running a great business.

I'm in So Cal and get his watermelons from Winco every year! I tell everyone when I'm shopping to ONLY buy the ones with the face on the sticker! I've never been disappointed. I even emailed him years ago to verify that he was a real person! He answered and thanked me! Sweet guy!
I've seen them picked by some very strong Mexican's from sun up to sun down. Whewwww

Wow that watermelon was beautiful. It looked frosty inside and perfectly ripe the rattlesnake melons are my favorite. I can imagine how great it tastes. It was cool to see them on the vine. Also I didn't know the watermelon originated in Africa. That's very interesting. I am in Va. I would love to purchase one of your beautiful watermelons. I hope you sell to Wal-Mart. I will look for your picture.

Watermelon ... my most favorite and it won't belong before it will be that time of year. The only down side is trying to find one where I live (north of Memphis), that's ripe. I know what to look for, but still hard to find good watermelon around here! At least keep my fingers crossed and know to look for Luke's sticker.

4 days ago HEB in south Houston had 3 giant boxes. I went back today because the two we bought are gone, they were all out =( I cried..

Problem here is, might need a motorhome like yours.
Actually I have one in Fla. Strange enough, it was made here in Texas, Nacadoshos, ( sure it's misspelled). But it's called, Foretravle. Best motorhomes in the country. ( Maybe a future show idea) mines an 84, & it's fantastic. They are bar none, the best. North of Houston area.

I grew up on a watermelon farm and my daddy showed me the dirt and he showed me how loose it was and it was Sandy and he said watermelon like Sandyland. Of course they need water to. So if you've got a sandy soil and kind of a dry desert like area and you irrigate then it seems like it would be ideal

When I was a kid do used to be able to buy watermelon‘s that size everywhere no I won’t say that size but clothes now all you get are these little round ones and maybe that’s because they’re seedless but I’d love to have seeds from those bigger watermelons?

Best way to tell if a watermelon is ripe is look at the stem going into the watermelon. If it is brown you have a ripe one.

I'm trying my hand at watermelon this year. Just planted last weekend and I'm excited. Now how the hell did a kid get 800 Acer's.
At 24 / 25 married and on his own with a business I'd call him a young man not a kid ... I know some young people that are way more mature than some older people.

We live on the West Coast how far does your watermelons sell at market we live in a town called Bandon Oregon we have Fred Meyer’s Safeway’s and Wal Mart do you by any chance supply any of these places we would love to try your watermelon we just have to find a place that sells it so that we can buy it

so far all the texas watermelons that i have gotten for the past couple of years have not been good at all, not sweet and feels like u bitting into a sponge, i need to try one of those luke brown watermelons.
West Texas is the best of Texas, you should try Pecos cantaloupes, they are world famous
To me that watermelon he cut did not look totally ripe. It had too much green rind showing

My husband swears these watermelons are grown in candy!!
We use to make a hole on top off one and stick a bottle of everclear in it, let it drain tell it was all gone, then enjoyed a big slice🔥💯
I have never had a truly tasty seedless watermelon. The round ones sold at walmart and costco are tasteless. In my youth, the only melon in the stores were "Black Diamond" melons. Solid dark green and so sweet the sugar would crystalize inside. Used to get yellow meat watermelons when stationed in san antonio in the 80's. Dark green on the outside and a yellowish orange inside. The sweetest ive ever had.

His watermelons are my favorite. I eat 2 watermelons per week.
You look for a little curly q thing and if it's brown the watermelon is ripe and the watermelon Should have deep ridges and a little bit of a yellow-bellied where it said on the ground. A lot of watermelon Growers pull those melons before they get ripe enough so they'll last through shipment and that's why they're not as good as when you can wait until they're really ripe in the field omigosh there's only about maybe I don't know a fourth to a third of an inch of green around the edges and the red and oh so delicious
It was the best watermelon I tasted this year found in HEB this year in Texas .

There is some great hog, dove and quail hunting there also!!! His wife loved my fried biscuits with fried hog and cane syrup!!!

The first time I tried them, I bought 3 in season. Luke's watermelons are Sweet, ripe & perfect. Thanx Luke & HEB Youre the BEST. Ive also eaten Black Diamond from the Pan Handle. None can beat Texas watermelons🍉Keep up the good work👍🏽

Hell when I was young living in McCamey Texas the one thing we loved in the summer was swimming in the Balmorhea spring feed pool and the Pecos cantaloupe and Watermelon.
I’m from Big Spring Texas. My family would drive to Balmorhea to swim in that beautiful natural spring pool. Wow! What memories!

I know this is an older video but my husband just brought home one of his watermelons ( with the picture sticker still on it!) from HEB and so I looked him up! About to cut into it and find out just how good his watermelons are! August is HOT in Texas. Watermelons are one of the perfect cool down fruits! 🍉🍉

I do not like seedless I want seeded watermelon haven't had a good watermelon since my father died in 1971. He grew Charleston Gray they were a very light green melon. Striped watermelons were just starting to be a little bit popular and he was interested in them
