I gave this a shot on a friend's NES probably ten years back knowing full well what to expect and lasted about ten minutes. Great job on actually beating such a famous video game turd!
Ghost Busters was actually one of the first four NES game cartridges I had! The others were Super Mario/Duck Hunt (which came with my NES), Konami's Top Gun, and Tecmo's Star Force.
Too bad the AVGN didn't know about this! Thanks for showing us how to actually beat the game, because I honestly don't think that it could be beaten without that glitch, lol.
I've never used the Slimer toothpaste but I can already tell you that it's more enjoyable than this fucking stupid ass video game which resembles the movie that it's based on just as much as a piece of burnt toast
This is my first ever watching your content. I like the video. It's very informative as well as gameplay. I have not seen anyone else do this type of gameplay video. It usually consists of commentary of their reaction
My all-time favorite movie; the NES game? Not so much. I must say, you made that look so easy. Very well done, Erin, and it totally sets the mood for October.
I don't think I've ever heard of the overflow glitch in this game, though I don't know enough about the ghost behind the door to understand how this one works. The way an overflow glitch usually works is that you're supposed to hit zero, but you skip over it, which takes it around to the other side. It can go both ways, too; there's an overflow glitch in Final Fantasy 7, where you can increase your attack power with a certain weapon in such a way that you can instantly kill anything, because it does so much damage.
Awesome gameplay Erin. I know that was hard on your fingers. :-) One of my all-time favorite movies. Had no idea it was a game until I saw the VGN pay it. Good job on beating it.
Ghostbusters is my favorite movie ever and I had fond memories of this game, despite its terribleness. I never beat it tho so you are definitely a legit Ghostbuster now.
Oh, I'm glad you showed this. I'm familiar with the Sega Master System version of this game. Many people would still hate that version, but it had a more . . . game-like final challenge (such as allowing the ghostbusters to shoot at the ghosts when going from floor to floor).😊👻
Hey congrats on getting featured on #CreatorsSpotlight ! Congrats on beating this game also! I had the Master System version and could never get past the town map.
I used to use Turbo on the NES Advantage to race up the stairs quickly lol.. Ghostbusters in all it’s forms...movies, cartoon show, etc...WAS my childhood! Still love it 🙂
It's called an overflow glitch. It's when a value in the game's code cycles past zero. It's the same sort of glitch that causes you to cycle past the max amount of lives in Super Mario Bros. that causes you to have less than zero lives. There's also a similar glitch in Sinistar, where in, if you die twice on your last life (yes, you can die twice on one turn), then it cycles you up to 255 lives. It's actually one of the most common glitches in classic games.
There has yet to be a game made to this date with a better, more epic ending than this. The plot. The depth. The character development. The closure. Man......
Awesome, you made it look so easy. So ice your thumb now, lol. Yes I remember all those Ghostbuster products. Hi-C, toothpaste, there was a gum. I was a big fan of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon, it came on after school. I had a black Ghostbusters logo shirt and I still have the soundtrack on vinyl. Also remember all the toys and figures when they showed up new at Bradlees. The days when kids actually played with toys and action figures. Jim
Funny that you sold the shop two Capture Traps with ghosts still in them! When I first played this game years and years ago, I actually thought that was what you had to do - sell full traps and buy empty ones until I could afford the Super Trap. I'm not sure how long it took me to realize that going to the GBHQ (Ghost Buster Headquarters) would empty the traps into the Containment Unit without having to sell and buy more Capture Traps.
Also, having an NES Advantage controller with "turbo" function (hold a button for auto-rapid press) royally helped the Ghostbusters to zoom up the floors!
Being able to enjoy this game, even having seen Ghostbusters and knowing how awesome it is and how bad this game failed at imitating it, that's an accomplishment
My favorite Ghostbusters game is the Sega Genesis version. I highly recommend that you check it out. The level design, weapons for busting ghosts, and music are great. Also, the characters have really big heads. My only gripe is that the Genesis version leaves out Winston. What's weirder is that it's supposed to be after the events of Ghostbusters 2.
David Crane has said he began working on the game by developing a driving and in-game economy concept before Activision even had the Ghostbusters' license. Learning that explained a lot for me.
slimer toothpaste was good but do you remember Hardees having a Slimer Hot Fudge Sundae??? it was a regular hot fudge sundae but the chocolate topping was bright green :) also there was a time when you could buy Ghostbusters cereal and inside was a record...yes a record to play on a record player lol and it had the guy who did egon's voice on the cartoon telling you to go see ghostbusters 2 in theatres and also how you could win a contest! :) Laurence Lemanche i believe is his name.
I loved those ecto pplasm drinks when I was a kid. They were my favorite. I used to bug my mom for them all the time. Never even heard of the slimer toostpaste until now.
Dev1: "We've almost finished this game, but I feel it's maybe too short. What could make this game longer?" Dev2: "how about making a section where you tap A to advance? That should hurt their hand and make them run to the hospital. I'm sure running to the hospital will be a perfect addition to the experience".
Well done Erin! When I was very young I played this game on my IBM PC. I never actually beat the game in part because I couldn't get the ghosts to align with the ghost buster beams and also because I simply lost interest in the game. The NES version looks easier and different than what I played.
Good job and cool vid I like how your playing Nes lately itd be cool to see more Nes horror games like Friday the 13. I think they lied about it being a good game lol this must have been an early release or seems to be by the looks. I think a turbo button would be allowed for this game for the ladder level haha
I used to live on the 13th floor of an apartment building, which was numbered as 14. Oh yeah; 11, 12, 14, 15... I didn't even realise that shit until about a week after I moved in! Heh heh, "ghost pie" 😝!
Just seeing the thumbnail image filled me suddenly with an almost parental instinct of wanting to slap it out of your hand just like when you see a little kid trying to eat a bug. Like "No, sweetie, you don't touch that. It's bad and yucky." But then after the stairs part I wanted to hand you that Staypuff Marshmellow Man doll and say "Now show me on Mr. Staypuff where this game hurt your soul?" Still, very entertaining and yay for beating it!
Your run through was quite a bit better than James/AVGN's if only because you were happy at beating this beast, regardless of how asinine it was designed. Good on you!
Makers: "Okay, so everybody here, you have seen Ghostbusters, right? You know how awesome that movie is? Well, make a video game that is the absolute opposite in every fucking way. Make it suck hard, make it terrible, make it stupid, and create every damn thing in it in such a way so that it doesn't even resemble the Ghostbusters in the fucking least!! Okay, get to it!"
Ghost Pie. I call that band name! I beat this one recently without looking up the glitch, though may have still used the glitch since I opened all the doors up to a certain point. What a pain in the ass. The biggest obstacle was sitting through the monotony that was this game.
I gotta be honest, when I played this game as a kid, I had no idea what was going on. I did a lot of driving, probably similar to someone just driving around and not playing the missions in a GTA game (without the cool tunes). I did buy traps 'n stuff, but I busted no ghosts, so I didn't feel good (who am I kidding, I was a happy kid, I still felt good!).
What's your favorite horror themed game? For me it's Ghouls N Ghosts (even though it is hard as hell) and Resident Evil 2 and of course the Castlevania games
I beat this as a kid. I didn't know about the glitch and did it legitimately. I _May_ have used the NES Advantage for the turbo button to get up the stairs though IDK?
If you think the first one is bad, play Ghostbusters 2 on the NES. The controls for operating the proton pack are completely freaking stupid and very clunky. Imagine trying to control something that feels so unnatural while a damn ghost is coming right up on you!!!!
All the kids that were eating tide pods were too stupid to realize that there was a big metal box filled with Hi-C Ecto Cooler in the front of their parents' car.
cant confirm this but I always thought HI-C just released Orange Lavaburst as a traditionally colored orange liquid once the Original Ecto Cooler license was discontinued.
Actually, i kinda admire the premise of this game. It may seem very simplistic but theres still variety in it. I personally like this alot more than the second game.
Erin, if you're playing on a NES you may want to find a controller with turbo for games like these or for farming items. Way easier on your thumbs to just hold it down rather than press it over and over. You don't even have to tell us, just plug it in off-screen.
I had no idea that there was a glitch to this game. That kind of information would have been super helpful back in the day. Can't forget about the turbo button, but just taping the a button over and over again would drive me mad, so its impressive the level of tolerance you have, cause that is some grade a bullshit that they wanted people to keep tapping the a button to move left and right. but congrats on beaten Ghostbusters on NES.
Ever since I saw the AVGN video back in the day, it always made me wonder: What exactly is ghost food? It appears to be a pie of some kind according to this game lol
What is “ghost food” anyway? Like, what would what is essentially a mass of sentient disembodied energy eat? Usually ghosts are rumored to feed off of electrical charges (because again, they are just masses of sentient energy without a vessel), which explains why people usually report their cell phone dying when it’s at 100% battery or their flashlight being drained right after having new batteries put in. Plus ghosts have no physical form so the food would just go right through them (like that one scene in Casper where his 3 evil uncles were cramming food in their faces)
I don't even remember getting items when I beat this. And the stairway part is so unnecessary. That part was a joke in the movie, they showed like, two scenes of the ghostbusters going up the empire state building.
I actually played the Sega Master System version of the game before playing the NES version, and it's much better to play on the former due to it having better-looking graphics and gameplay with an even catchier 8-bit version of the "Ghostbusters" theme song.
AVGN: "THIS GAME IS ASSSS. DO ME A FAVOR AND DON'T PLAY IT."
Erin: "Hello, today we are playing Ghostbusters."
TheWitchPolyglot haha, I do what I want :p
I think almost every game AVGN reviewed, aside from the really infamous ones, are only remembered because of him.
I gave this a shot on a friend's NES probably ten years back knowing full well what to expect and lasted about ten minutes. Great job on actually beating such a famous video game turd!
"You have completed a Great Game! and Prooved the Justice of our Culture!"
Conglaturation ! ! !
Now, go rest our heroes!
Classic AVGN reference, lolz
@@AmyraCarter Not quite, considering the game itself wrote it. I swear, you AVGN fanboys would think he died for your sins...
i amwilling toplay the 2nd ghostbusters game it seems tofollow the movie and has good challenge and good virety
You're brave for playing this! This game pissed me off so much as a kid. I am surprised I didn't break my controller out of frustration.
This was a pack-in game for a popular NES clone in Brazil. Imagine this being your first NES game.
Because The clone is called "Phantom System".
I remember the Slimer Toothpaste, it was super green and I thought it tasted weird, but I felt like a true ghostbuster while brushing.
I've never used the Slimer toothpaste but I can already tell you that it's more enjoyable than this fucking stupid ass video game which resembles the movie that it's based on just as much as a piece of burnt toast
You beat that game: you're a Goddess.
Erin, if someone asks you if you're a Goddess, you say "YESSS"!!!!!!
Thank you for playing this game so that I didn't have to! 👻
Hahaha
My thoughts exactly.
Hahaha. Nice one!!
Who you gonna call📲..Erin plays!👻 "ConGLATuration!!!" LOL.
Yay Erin! I'm so glad I found this channel!
Bring on the spooky (or not so spooky 😂)!!!
The Halloween season is officially upon us now! 🎃
Erin and Ghostbusters? My two favorite things combined ❤️

Do you know about New Ghostbusters 2 on NES?
I don't think I've ever heard of the overflow glitch in this game, though I don't know enough about the ghost behind the door to understand how this one works. Wow you tackled it!Heard its pretty frustrating!Specially the stairs!Never heard of the glitch!Too cool, love yer videos bud.
Oh Erin, the things you subject yourself to for our entertainment. Hope your hand isn't permanently damaged.
good job on beating the game erin personally i think ghostbusters 2 on nes look more interesting

That stairs section.. I've still never attempted that, the finger wear alone, good god
A lot of east Asian countries won't list a 4th floor due to the pronunciation sounding like their word for death.
THAT IS METAL!!!
It's called an overflow glitch. It's when a value in the game's code cycles past zero. Hey Erin,i like the intro!
And this game drove me nuts, the stairs!
That was a dam good job! I have done it the glitch way before accidentally. Now I know how to do it on purpose. Thanks.
OH MY GOD... the slimer toothpaste had the most unique taste ever. Nothing I've had since smelled or taste anything like it.
Funny that you sold the shop two Capture Traps with ghosts still in them! In the show they have a car known as ghost buggy at ghost command which is a vintage Ford model T.
Found your channel today. A Castlevania lover :) Good videos and fun to listen to. Subbed!

About the 13th floor, Mitch Hedberg summed it up best. “The people on the 14th floor? You know what floor you’re really on!”
Sweet halloween themed intro!
"You have completed a great game". I think that's the first game completion screen I've seen that congratulated itself. Self-conglaturation!

Conglatuations on beating Ghostbusters, Erin!
*Makers:* We're going to make a difficult & long game, then brag in the credits.

the motel i worked at was only two stories, but both floors were missing their 13th room (113 and 213). it is weird, but that is definitely a thing.
Ecto Cooler and Super Mario World. It was "yoshi juice" to my friend and I :)
Erin, thank you for prooving the justice of our culture. A winner is you!
Ah yes, everyone remembers the iconic green jumpsuits.
You should play the Game Boy Ghostbusters developed by HAL.
Great video and well played, congratulation 😉 awesome 👏
i first played this on the Commodore 64. I was hoping it would be better on the NES. It wasn't!
It used to be common for hotels to not have a 13 floor. Now, it's rare to find one.
Ghost Pie. I call that band name!

Ghostbusters: The Carpel Tunnel Adventure.
@erin: I remember that toothpaste, we had here in italy too
Oh this game..... truly horrifying and perfect to start October. You should give the Master System version a shot. It's better.
I came hear to say this same thing!
Genesis version is great too.
i remember ecto cooler iliked it
Glad I found this page!👍🏻

Probably Dracula's Curse or Splatterhouse :)
Silent Hill
@@ErinPlays splatterhouse is cool
I beat this as a kid.
I didn't know about the glitch and did it legitimately. I _May_ have used the NES Advantage for the turbo button to get up the stairs though IDK?
I've enjoyed the one on the Genesis quite a bit. I have yet to try the NES version and probably won't due to the fact that I still value my sanity. xD
Don’t do it to yourself, ha
Words to live by. =D Anywho, looking forward to more of your awesome videos Erin. Keep being awesome!
If you think the first one is bad, play Ghostbusters 2 on the NES. The controls for operating the proton pack are completely freaking stupid and very clunky. Imagine trying to control something that feels so unnatural while a damn ghost is coming right up on you!!!!
Hotels don’t always have 13th floors and some airlines don’t have 13th rows labeled in their planes. Also, Ecto Cooler is amazing.
All the kids that were eating tide pods were too stupid to realize that there was a big metal box filled with Hi-C Ecto Cooler in the front of their parents' car.
The ghostly war against rowan.
cant confirm this but I always thought HI-C just released Orange Lavaburst as a traditionally colored orange liquid once the Original Ecto Cooler license was discontinued.
This game is difficult for me to enjoy. Ok you've totally inspired me to try this. Congladulations
You can do it! :)
Conglarutation!
Actually, i kinda admire the premise of this game. It may seem very simplistic but theres still variety in it. I personally like this alot more than the second game.
you mean you want a vacuum for cleaning your car? 'no this vacuum is for catchin' ghosts.'
The battle against the hauntquaters hard cases with prime evil.
Usually hotels will ether list the 13th floor as 12A, M, or will just skip it altogether.
