I saw this at the cinema when it came out in 1997. The first film I remember watching at the pictures. That key change and the bridge (where the title is shown in the film) make me feel like I'm eight years old again.
And I must point out that the head muse here is sung by the absofabudamnfreakingtastic Lillias White who won the Tony Award that same year for the musical The Life and was Effie in the 1987 revival of Dream Girls. Basically I want to be her when I grow up.
Granted Tarzan had an awesome album but Hercules to me always had the greatest Disney tracks. The girls did an outstanding job with this song one of my top 5 favorites on the album. Also granted Hercules was one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. Always loved mythology of many different religions even grew up trying to study as many as I could.
We are the muses. Goddesses of the arts and proclaimers of heroes. Heroes like Hercules. Honey, you mean Hunkules! I'd like to make some sweet music of- Our story actually begins long before Hercules Many Aeons ago ... Back when the world was new The planet Earth was down on its luck And everywhere gigantic brutes called Titans ran amok It was a nasty place There was a mess whereever you stepped Where chaos reigned and earthquakes and volcanoes never slept And then along came Zeus He hurled his thunderbolt He zapped Locked those suckers in a vault They're trapped And on his own stopped chaos in its tracks And that's the gospel truth The guy was too type A to just relax And that's the world's first dish Zeus tamed the globe while still in his youth Though, honey, it may seem imposs'ble That's the gospel truth On Mt. Goddddd I love this movie so much. It’s probably the first Disney movie I can legitimately remember watching nonstop. The music constantly comes to me at random times and I just gotta listen to it. 😂
Damb! Love this soundtrack. Give thumbs up if you think, like me, that Hercules should be made into a Broadway production. Together we can make the world a groovier place.

The funny thing is, listening to this as an adult with knowledge of Greek theology, it very much feels like a "written by the winners" scenario. The Titans were defeated and usurped by Zeus and suddenly they're the chaotic assholes who had to be put away.
I think having the Muses singing gospel music works because muses means inspiration and a lot of music genre where inspired by gospel. Therefore the gospel songs have a purpose in the soundtrack. Plus, there's nothing wrong with wanting to step away from the formulaic Disney music style in favor of something more soulful.
I like this movie except none of the things that happened in Greek myths. Like Chiron(a centaur) trained Hercules. Also hera wasn't Hercules mom, she actually hated him and tried to kill him several times
@@beckiemunson4928 I did. When this movie came out, I was given this tape of Hercules that was slightly more accurate to the trials of Hercules and in it, Hera was this massive bitch who would stop at nothing to see Hercules fail. I think I was 7 or 8 at the time and I just accepted it.
_Deinen Prinzen gibt es schon Sarah, nur ER ist unnahbar, denn ER ist sogar ein König, obwohl du nur eine Bäuerin & Er umarmt dich bei Tag, bei Nacht ummantelt Er dich und knutscht dich auch ab und zu ab obwohl du im Schlaf und Er wacht und heißt Jesus Christus._ Vielen Dank mein Märchenprinz di essere veramente reale anche se essendo passato. ice dragon:OOPS, looks like i din't liked how poorly edited this song was, so now i really wanna punch the Chrlton Hatuion narrator on the invisible head
I've always thought that whoever dreamed up making the Greek chorus a black gospel choir was a freakin' genius. It shouldn't work, but it just does.
I'm saying
Rani Jones yo
ANIMATICX Hamilton bABE HELLO
Rhonda Crutcher hell ya I agree!
I was thinking exactly the same thing. Is so genius.
i wish disney still made stylistic musical choices like this
this soundtrack puts me in such a good mood
+Melissa Lozano for reall
Same along with heathers
1:37-1:53 on is my favorite part. I love hearing these woman vocalize. Gives me goosebumps.
0 to 2:26 is my favorite.
Hell yeah brother
who ever put this soundtrack together had an awesome music background I can literally feel the church vibe to this
0:48
How Greek mythology usually starts
😂
Literally
In the words of my reading group “Most myths start because Zeus was being a man whore”
0:47 goes just as hard as it did 25 years ago. still easily the best disney film ever
I saw this at the cinema when it came out in 1997. The first film I remember watching at the pictures. That key change and the bridge (where the title is shown in the film) make me feel like I'm eight years old again.
Honey, you mean HUNK-u-les
Cum dumpster
Never thought gospel music could get me this excited

"And then along came Zeus".
Nice double entendre there Disney.

I'd like to make some sweet music of-
Our story actually begins long before Hercules
Many Aeons ago ...
Back when the world was new
The planet Earth was down on its luck
And everywhere gigantic brutes
called Titans ran amok
It was a nasty place
There was a mess
whereever you stepped
Where chaos reigned and
earthquakes and volcanoes never slept
And then along came Zeus
He hurled his thunderbolt
He zapped
Locked those suckers in a vault
They're trapped
And on his own stopped
chaos in its tracks
And that's the gospel truth
The guy was too type A to just relax
And that's the world's first dish
Zeus tamed the globe
while still in his youth
Though, honey, it may seem imposs'ble
That's the gospel truth
On Mt. Olympus life was neat and
Smooth as sweet vermough
Though, honey, it may seem imposs'ble
That's the gospel truth
BEST.
DISNEY.
EVER!
Some of the most underrated Disney characters ever
The music in this movie was absolutely incredible!!!! Especially the songs from the muses!!! Those women did this movie GREAT justice!!!!
1:52 the sound that you know something amazing is starting
Goddddd I love this movie so much. It’s probably the first Disney movie I can legitimately remember watching nonstop.
The music constantly comes to me at random times and I just gotta listen to it. 😂
I saw in this in theaters back in the day. Loved it ever since.😆😁👍
Think about this, people :
*_THEY PUT AN ELECTRIC GUITAR JAM IN A DISNEY MOVIE_*
-and then quickly removed it for the dvd-
love this soundtrack
Their voices send chills down my spine.
My God, those crescendo's are *everything* 🥺 All heart and soul, phew Lord ❤
Older Disney movies definitely have the best soundtracks.. The Lion King, Aladdin, and of course, Hercules.
Prince of Egypt is my favorite
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!
+Madison Harlow
BLESS MY SOUL!
So glad I can finally sing along to all the songs!
BACK WHEN DISNEY HAD A SOUL!!!!
Not to start anything, but I always loved that a song about Greek mythology is called The Gospel Truth.
How have I never really heard "too type A to just relax" I was too young to understand what that meant. Rings too true now.
Damb! Love this soundtrack. Give thumbs up if you think, like me, that Hercules should be made into a Broadway production. Together we can make the world a groovier place.
This song is the best and best movie
*Hunk-e-les intensifies*
you go girl😎......

So beautiful!
YOU GO GIRL.
1:54 my favorite part - that brass is sooo good
You can tell that this was done by Alan Meken. Just listen to the background music.
Alan MENKEN Isolated Score Gospel Truth / Main Title (Unused Music)
I love this so much!!!!!!!!!!!
AWESOME LOVE IT SO MUCH

Listening to this to get in the mood for being one of the urchins in Little Shop of Horrors XD
I love what you do😍
You go, girl.
0:55 and 1:54 Favorite parts
even though the movie is incorrect in a mythological way, i love the soundtrack
I love the Muses
HAHA I am actually liking this song. I finally watched the movie for the first time.
Hercules has the best soundtrack. Fight me.
The funny thing is, listening to this as an adult with knowledge of Greek theology, it very much feels like a "written by the winners" scenario. The Titans were defeated and usurped by Zeus and suddenly they're the chaotic assholes who had to be put away.
God this soundtrack just kills in every way lol.
me: *finally sets up a brand new $5000 PC*
the weather: AND THEN ALONG CAME ZEUS
Lol i saw a statue of hercules in a shop window and i started singing this everyone looked at me insane

YOU GO GIRLS
I like this movie except none of the things that happened in Greek myths. Like Chiron(a centaur) trained Hercules. Also hera wasn't Hercules mom, she actually hated him and tried to kill him several times
I think it's best they don't shoot for accuracy or else everyone and everygod would be claiming child benefits from Zeus.
Disney made it kid friendly to avoid lawsuits
Yeah, but Zeus can't ACTUALLY be a hoe, this is a Disney movie, and everyone knows that Hera is Zaus' wife, so…
would you want your kids to watch a movie where a goddess hates some one and makes his life terrible?
@@beckiemunson4928 I did. When this movie came out, I was given this tape of Hercules that was slightly more accurate to the trials of Hercules and in it, Hera was this massive bitch who would stop at nothing to see Hercules fail. I think I was 7 or 8 at the time and I just accepted it.
Woooo sing it girlfriend
Sultry Muses
I love Disney Movies from back in the day! You can't tell me Walt Disney wasn't a Christian!
Wilson Bell I don't think he was, not many knew his religious background
Walt Disney was dead long before Hercules was made. He died in 1966, and Hercules came out in 1997.
Who cares!!!
Good song.
Yeah baby!
lighten up dude...
My part 1:53
AND THEN ALONG CAME ZEUS
Oh, he came alright.
WWWOOOOO!!! SANG GIRLFRIEND!!!!

This is better.
