    When I use to recondition vehicles for dealership I did this all the time. A heat gun on low works great.

      A heat gun sounds a lot lower stress to use vs. the torch! Thanks for the view!

    I used to work with plexiglas at work. We used the same technique to take scratches out of the plexiglas. Amazing how it works. Didn't know it would work on bumpers. Thanks for posting.

    My best fix for that dreaded unpainted black or gray plastic trim was simply WD40. It didn’t make the trim a dirt magnet like Armoral or any other tire did. Back when we only had paste waxes in a can it was really hard not to get some wax on that plastic trim, especially when the trim was over the wheel wells, under the doors and made up the bumpers. That WD40 really restored the original color, at least for a couple of hand washings.

      Interesting that sounds like a quick fix also!

    It’s a good fix and it looks more OEM than the other options. I did it with my 1992 Cherokee (sorry to keep saying that) and the only drawback was that it seemed to only last 2-3 years before it became faded again.

    • @TylerPotter

    That's actually quite impressive Tyler and I agree that with the right technique it could work on a lot of vehicles with all that black plastic body cladding. At first I got a little anxious and it's not even my car. LOL!!

    Tyler, I did this on my Wife's WJ and it came out great! One question. Any ideas about protecting the paint from heat with tape?

  • @elsydeon666
    @elsydeon666 2 роки тому +1

    It "works" by remelting the plastic, so a fresh surface is exposed. It's similar to sanding your headlights to make them clear again.
    What works even better is bedliner, since it is tough.

    • @TylerPotter
      @TylerPotter  2 роки тому

      Dang using it on bed liner is a great idea!

    • @elsydeon666
      @elsydeon666 2 роки тому

      @@TylerPotter I meant using bedliner on the plastic, but it might work on bedliner, since that is usually a plastic coating.

  • @RustyJeepHole
    @RustyJeepHole 2 роки тому

    it works temporarily then comes back with a vengeance. bedliner sucks too. in my opinion, cleaning it and painting it with trim paint works better

    Also, dont spray paint them, check out a Pre-Val and grab some more of that black dye, clean it real well, make sure its dry, hit it with adhesion promoter and then spray the dye on the areas you need to touch up.

    • @TylerPotter
      @TylerPotter  2 роки тому

    Can you do a vid on repairing hard trim on a suv lift door that's damaged by heat? The damage is textured as if direct heat was applied.
