This did not work, BUT a few other users in a thread in the comments helped. 1) Delete “bak”, and leave the . 2) Delete the other one 3) Leaving the . Sign out 4) Go back, repeat, delete the other one and delete the . from the “right” one 5) Sign out and viola!!

@@fastLinkNgthe curropted profile is the .bak so click on that profile and click on profileimagepath and copy the user text and go to the temporary profile without the .bak and rename the profileimagepath to what you copied earlier.And delete the .bak profile and restart your pc..it should solve the problem :)

Subsequently, I connected the old SSD, which had Windows 10 installed, as an external drive to my Windows 11 laptop and deleted some files from its desktop. Later, when I reinstalled the Windows 10 SSD into my laptop and attempted to boot it up, I found myself logged into a temporary profile
Followed these steps verbatim twice and it doesn't work, the .bak and temp registries get added back after signing in again. Seeing all the positive responses, I figured this was the final frontier, but I guess somehow, something in my computer is messing up. This is the first time that Windows 10 is truly pissing me off :/

This actually worked when I didn't expect it to! Thank you sincerely for saving over 500GB of files! If this doesn't work, you likely either have a more severe issue and you should find a technology place to diagnose your PC, or you didn't properly follow these steps. Be extremely careful when doing this, because if you accidently delete your user in RegEdit (shown as a .bak file in the video), you will permanently lose your profile and access to your files!
@@ardon7340 Actually, I forgot to edit this comment, it worked once then back to same. I had to delete that account make a new one and then make it local admin. I did a mistake, don't delete before you have transferred your stuff from C,. U will lost most of them, so transfer then make new account local admin. Hope it helps 👍

I think data which is saved in your account folder like files in Video picture music etc are deleted. Just to he sure backup the photos videos etc on D the. Change account. And yes it did work, nust need a new account.

If you want to save your files then go to c:/ users select your username then go to desktop copy all your desktop files and save them to any other disk like c or d as backup. And when your signout problem is gone then past them in your desktop. Hope this solves your data problem....
Hey, glad this helped for everyone else, but sadly I just got re-booted to the temp file I deleted the key for. Checked the reg editor and sure enough, the key and the .bak are back. This may be because my computer is from 2016 and is very well on its way out, NOT a fault of the tutorial or person who made it. I think I just have to accept that I need to save up for a new one. It’ll take forever and a day but I think that’s the only option I have left.

This theory didn’t work for me. I got it working though. I restarted my computer in safe mode and selected a option that reinstalled Windows 10 keeping files. It re installed windows and kept all my files (but in some obscure folder, had to go searching for it) After it reinstalled windows , you get back into your normal account but all the items on your desktop are deleted. Like if you have any movie editing software or media player, it will delete it and you’ll have to download all your downloaded software again to open your files.

I've followed the steps and delete the ".bak" and the temp profile folder, after i restart my computer it makes another one :( Please help i've been trying to fix this for the past 2 weeks.
SOLVED: This issue happened to me last night. I almost cried. I watched many videos and comments and eventually solved it by following these steps: 1. Delete the file with no bak extension 2. Rename the file with ".bak" by erasing "bak" but leave the "." 3. Sign out and sign in again. 4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 above but erase the "." this time. 5. Sign out and sign in again and Voila!! You'll successfully logged into your user account but all your app settings would be lost. And when you restart PC issue persists again. To solve this. 6 Go to settings and find restore points. Click on show more restore points. Set your PC to a restore point about a week or 2 weeks ago. Wait about 15 minutes for your PC to roll back to the selected restore point. Voila!! No more issue when pc restarts. You can now log in successfully and all app settings restored.

i know this is kinda old but i need help when i go to restart it afterwards it just resets to having a bak profile
This theory didn’t work for me. I got it working though.
I restarted my computer in safe mode and selected a option that reinstalled Windows 10 keeping files. It re installed windows and kept all my files (but in some obscure folder, had to go searching for it)
After it reinstalled windows , you get back into your normal account but all the items on your desktop are deleted. Like if you have any movie editing software or media player, it will delete it and you’ll have to download all your downloaded software again to open your files.

Mckinley Petalver Yeah, your music will stay. But if you’ve downloaded any other media players apart from the ones already on the computer then you will have to re download them.

Mine didn't have a .bak file and I just deleted the temp profile one and it locked me out of using the home button and it removed my pinned items from my task bar, does anyone know what to do ?

I've followed the steps and delete the ".bak" and the temp profile folder, after i restart my computer it makes another one :( Please help i've been trying to fix this for the past 2 weeks.
Shut down with the on-off button so that the OS will not change the registry again.

SOLVED: This issue happened to me last night. I almost cried. I watched many videos and comments and eventually solved it by following these steps:
1. Delete the file with no bak extension
2. Rename the file with ".bak" by erasing "bak" but leave the "."
3. Sign out and sign in again.
4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 above but erase the "." this time.
5. Sign out and sign in again and Voila!! You'll successfully logged into your user account but all your app settings would be lost. And when you restart PC issue persists again. To solve this.
6 Go to settings and find restore points. Click on show more restore points. Set your PC to a restore point about a week or 2 weeks ago. Wait about 15 minutes for your PC to roll back to the selected restore point. Voila!! No more issue when pc restarts. You can now log in successfully and all app settings restored.

now my computer has asked me the starter questions when first getting the pc and the user things have the regular one (with no information when i click on it) and one with “_Classes” at the end

This didn't work for me. After reboot I have the same error message. And when I try again the profile with the .bak has returned. I am wondering if I should delete an additional key possibly. Would you mind taking a look if I send you a screenshot of my ProfileList?
