I believe jfk's sister after her lobotomy she was completely disabled, after that she was immediately institutionalized at a private psychiatric hospital, she was there for 7 years. Later her father sent her to saint coletta, and allegedly never saw her again, her siblings didn't see her for I believe 10 years or more.
Yeah, it’s so sad. Just because a woman was her own person and probably just stood up for herself (i’m assuming the stories are dramatised because back then speaking back at a man you could be considered aggressive and insane) she then was permanently incapacitated and unable to speak intelligently.
They just ruined a whole woman’s life because they couldn’t be the alpha males they wanted to be over her.
They say she had “violent mood swings” which we don’t have any backstory on from why or how those came to be in the household.
Maybe they were set on by violent people around her as well, but just because she was a woman, it’s considered crazy.
imagine sending your own daughter to a procedure advertised as a heal-all cure for psychological ills, but then you receive back a vegetable. Not only you are stupid for buying into hype crap, but also your daughter now is a living drooling reminder of you being a failure as a parent and as a human being

If you take into account how unknowledgeable people were back when they used to do trepanation, it's actually a pretty smart idea since what they basically were doing was relieving a pressure buildup in the brain, which otherwise would have most certainty ended with their death. sure, they probably died because of it... but it would have definitely made their life a bit longer than if they did nothing at all.
