1. If you are running in a large marathon, bring your own toilet paper or wipes. The porta jons run out quick. The lines tend to be long before the race. Get into line as soon as you get there. 2. Don't start the race too fast. Stick with your race plan. 3. Before the race don't pay attention to what anyone else is doing before the race. If people are standing out in the rain, don't leave your shelter to go stand out in the rain with them. 4. Wear the clothes you are comfortable running in. It is a race, not a fashion show. 5. If isn't hot, don't bring your own water. When you pay to run a marathon you are paying for the water stops. 6. When training use two pairs of shoes and rotate them everyday. The pairs of shoes should be identical. On race day, bring both pairs of shoes with you as well as extra shorts, shirts, socks, and underwear. This way you have backup in case something happens. 7. If you wear headphones for music, reconsider using them for the marathon. The last 3rd of the marathon your body is going to be on sensory overload. That music you "enjoy" may become an unwelcome noise. 8. Drink water. You should be drinking at least at every other water stop. 9. If you have to slow down because you are tired, try not to stop. Always keep moving even if it is just walking, especially if it is cold. 10. Plan for post race. Bring warm clothes to wear and have a plan as to where you can go to take a hot shower. Hotel , YMCA, or gym. Don't forget to bring a towel.
1. don’t wear new running gear on race day 2. poop before the race 3. vaseline areas known to chafe 4. dress for the second mile, don’t layer too much just bc the beginning is cold 5. smile, have fun
No. 6, don't bring any water bottle with you, there are plenty of fluid station No. 7, pack at least 3 energy gels for first 10 miles, it will give you boost (you take bits of the gels, not the entire thing), they are usually available on mile 17
Man, tough crowd in here! Lol First, your accent rocks. I might listen to this a couple times. 😋 Second, thanks for the tips! I've never heard the saying 'dress for the second mile', it certainly simplifies a complex topic for me!
I wouldn't advise to use vaseline. Use something like bodyglide.. vaseline is colour fast, after few washes you will notice that the colour is different in places where you have used it. I remember going to the gym once and looking in the mirror only to notice my t-shirt had dark circles around my nipple area!..
1. Carb load 2. Carb load 3. Carb load 4. Carb load 5. Carb load Most marathons are compromised in the final 3 days before the event, by insufficient fueling, regardless of how much training you've done. I messed up my first 4 marathons by not carb loading properly and then went from 4:28 to 3:42 by just eating more in the 3 days before the marathon. 6-8 grams of carbs per kg of body weight per day. Yes, it's a lot of carbs and you put on weight (water retention), but it's gone by the end of the marathon that and a few other kg.
Ran my first marathon in Stockholm, June 2nd this year. I actually did all of what you brought up here. But. It was 35 degrees Celsius. :-D The shoes I had run in for the past couple of months became too small... I'm guessing a lot of factors played in here. After the race I had blisters on both heels. 2 inch pieces of skin came loose on both heels and I couldn't walk properly for a month... For the next race I'm going to choose a pair one size bigger, as well as proper socks, I'm fairly sure the chafing was partly due to the wrong socks. But also the heat... Man, luckily I had hydrated properly and was never in danger of failing due to that, but damn! The sweat... Great video, btw!
@@ibraheem4913 I'm Swedish and we can count the days when it's 30-35 degrees on one hand... :-D We're NOT used to the heat... Before we went to the Maldives one time, I used a sauna every day for a month to get used to the heat, same as when I worked as a fireman. This time I didn't do it because I could never have guessed it'd be that warm. 22000 people were supposed to run, 17000 ran, the rest chose to get a refund or run in 2019. As a twist, you should run a winter run in the north of Finland, where I'm from originally, running in negative 20-30 degrees is tough... :-D
I'm off to my third marathon in two days time. I've never used Vaseline - I have a different strategy that works really well - wear compression gear. Because the fabric sits tight against your skin, it moves with it and doesn't rub. the same with my socks - tight socks and loose shoes work really well. It also might be that I'm not as 'big' a man as the rest of you ;-)
Chaffing gel/cream... compression tops are great at preventing nipple rubbing....but dont forget down below :D - dont wear tight socks and cut your toe nails - you might get runnings toe. Get good wearing shoes, they can wreck a run early on with blisters, get anti blister socks....
Cool and clear advice. Great accent too. I studied at Stirling (1998-2001) and feel half Scottish. My first marathon is in November (the one in...Marathon, Greece..). Keep up the good work. Nikos, Greece.
Thanks mate very much appreciated. Awesome first marathon to take on. I hope your training goes really well and you have a great first marathon. Let me know how you get on.
Ive ran 10 marathons. This is perfect advice forca Newby. One thing ill add. Dont take off to fast. Even though you're all hyoed up, take the first miles easy anf and then speed up.
Love Story if you don’t warm up before a run and cool down and stretch after a run you’re more likely to get an injury. Cooling down and stretches helps post-run recovery and is essential for maintaining mobility and good running form. I’d also recommend some foam rolling sessions on your legs on rest days.
As long as you're using proper running shorts that have a built in liner, no need. They're intended to be worn without. I typically will bodyglide on the liner seam area though
Enema! Take an enema 2 days before the race. My rule is when I go number 2 the day *BEFORE* race, I don't eat *ANYTHING* except 2 hours before the race.
For hydration I would say little and often when running. I don't like taking on to much of anything really when I'm running. Beforehand, most likely first thing in the morning. I would have a pint glass of water to get me going. Hope that helps Janey

Should we stretching or not, because i heard stretching make our muscle and joint weak, cause easy injuries.
