CHEAP Pontiac Grand Prix SE Makes My Skin CRAWL *Runs Like A Champ*

- I bought a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix SE for $900 and it was a grimy mess! Getting ready to sell actually took quite a bit of work. The rocker panels were rusted clean through and quite a few panels had been repainted. We had to continually clean and detail the car and the more time I spent with it the dirtier it seemed. The 3100 V6 was setting a check engine light (P0440) so I replaced the PCV valve and rotten boot which seemed to clear it up (may have just been the gas cap which I tightened when I added fuel).

I think you found a golden UA-cam formula. More of these please
MORE FLIP CARS! Like so JRGO can see. This is by far the best series on youtube. It's cheap, fun, cheerful, and most people can relate. Keep it up!
I hear you guys! I'll try to find some crazier stuff to work on, really need the R8 done so I can use my garage 😜
@@WatchJRGo Ive been watching for a while. I stopped but saw the flipping video and i cant stop waiting for more
WatchJRGo honestly the Audi is cool but I really enjoy these cheap POS cars and you teaching us how to flip
Yes more flip cars. Show us crap we could actually buy and work on.
Like JR's Garage
It's like watching Hoovies garage BUT you actually sell your cars.
JR might need to be rhe one to do the intervention on hoovie. That hypocrits fallen off the wagon. 😅😅
I was going to say the same thing
And make money
Hoovie sells his cars also, but even more broken than he got em, at a loss and to tavarish
He hasn't buried any cars yet though lol
Rockers are consumables here in the midwest.
Ain't this the truest shit I've read today
I would definitely pay $1200 for that car! Overall, the Grand Prix is a great car for the money. If you maintain it, it will last hundreds of thousands of miles. It's one of the most durable cars made. It's got great acceleration and handling. It's also damn nice looking :D
ITS GOT A 3100???? RIP......... I think I'm gonna look at this 01 gt with the 3800 for $1000 now if you paid that much for that POS xD
I paid 1400 for my 1995 grand prix se but it's a little nicer than this one. they aren't bad honestly
I have always liked the grand ams especially the gt with the hood scoops
MORE FLIP CARS
Those videos are amazing!!!!
Finally something wprth watching on youtube!
I have a 2002 Grand Prix GTP 40th anniversary with 245000 miles on it. I just can't part with it, it hasn't ever let me down.
i have the same vehicle, with 130k miles on it, and its the rare 2 door coupe!!!
At that mileage you should only part with it once it blows up.
Chris Huston me too !
I got rid of my rare blk coupe last year 145k ran great, that's impressive milage, picked up an 06 gt with series 3 supercharged very clean for 3500 I just love these grand prix hahaha don't ever get a ride of her!
If you still have it, make sure you have the intake manifold and plastic elbows connecting to the heater core replaced before one of them breaks and risks the engine overheating and possibly blowing the head gasket.
Those Grand Prix's were well built cars for their time! The GTP was a beast!
Yes they are! I had one with failed wheel speed sensors and it would do rolling burnouts up and down the block 💪
@@WatchJRGo im in the process of buying a 2001 GTP 4 dr. my other car is a 96 Z28 with the LT1...... yeah it likes tires LOL
To an extent. A touch of maintenance on the 3.8s and they're strong. Suspension is strong. Transmissions are garbage. ABS harnesses always bust and the rocker panels 9/10 times will be rusted out.
@@AcidSystem29 The 4T65 can be troublesome but they're not as bad as the automatic transmissions in Hondas what's important is to change the fluid in them.
KeenCrafting yes 3.8 series 3 awesome cheap to drive super reliable and durable
I flipped a 1997 Grand Prix GT coupe, with sunroof, in 2011. I paid $800 for it. . I did all the body work. Filled in the rocker panels, sealed up some small rot holes underneath the rear seats and driver area. The car sat in a yard for quite some time. I replaced the alternator, replaced all brake lines, both mufflers, new gas tank, fuel lines, and filler line. Fixed the wiper motor and new headlights. I sanded down any rust, mostly around rear wells, filled it, primed, painted, and coated them. Put in a custom sound system and receiver with subs. Put 3 coats of wax on it to bring back the shine. The 3800 V6 was a BEAST. It ran like new, despite 150000 miles on it. When all finished the car looked awesome! I kept it for a year then sold it for $4500. I turned around and bought a 1999 Grand Prix GTP and did it all over again.
Geez man another secret flip car in the drive way? I love these man! Keep em up
I wanted one of those so bad they were way ahead of their time with this and I wish Pontiac never went out of business
Anthony Narducci my daily driver in the rust belt 👍2004 Grand Prix gt 400153 on clock 3.8 n/a change oil every 5-6 Keith synthetic Chang all fluids annually including transmission and antifreeze every 3 years . I just use a suction pump to swap out transmission fluid out dip stick tube about 5 quarts and can of conditioner 10 min job on warm fluids using hand operated pump.
Same!! I love Pontiac! I have an '02 Grand Prix GTP that hauls! It goes from 0-60 in under 5 seconds! My only complaint is the blower resisters are junk (I'm talking the OE resisters) and the bodies rusts way too easily. Other than that, the engines are pure gold and with regular maintenance and care, you can get over 350k or more out of a Pontiac engine.
NEVER GET ONE WITH A 3100 I CANT BELEIVE HE EVEN PURCHASED THIS HOOPTY XD
Wish GM discontinued Buick rather than Pontiac. Buick is just *there* and serves no purpose.
My first car was an 01 Grand Prix gtp with the supercharged 3800. Loved that car
Those 3.8 engines are tough as hell! Besides the intake gaskets that need changed around 160k they literally will run forever if you keep the oil changed with regular maintenance.
My husband has a 97 GTP supercharged 👍👍👍
I love this channel. I'm not a mechanic but I've discovered lately, through fixing my sons' cars (Grand Prix GTP, Subaru Legacy, VW Passat) that I like to fix cars. I would love to do what you are doing. Someone told me that I will need to get some kind of dealer's license though here in MD.
I recently subscribed to this channel after watching the $300 Yukon XL video, and I like the content you produce on this channel. Keep up the good work.
3100 was a fantastic motor for GM. People hate on them because they dont know how to fix them. Just make sure the intake gaskets are done and its golden. I've never had a 3100 fail on me. My 97 lumina had 400k on original motor and trans and still running to this day
I think the only reason the 3100 was considered a bad motor, was because it got compared to the 3800
@@ayooPatriotboii You also had the 3.4L engines too, LA1 with the problematic LIM gasket and the (DOHC) LQ1 with cam and timing chain issues. The LA1 LIM is easily fixed (don't use the plastic crap gasket) and the simple pushrod design makes it as reliable as something Japanese once fixed, but not sure about anything like that for the LQ1. Most people don't know the differences, so all of GM's 60° modular V6's get lumped together.
@thagerdorn2009 so true. I just bought a '95 grand prix SE and it runs like a top, on the way home the oil was below the crosshatch for like 100 miles. I didn't notice until I checked the oil at a gas station but it didn't make any noise or anything and it still runs great despite that dumb mistake. Don't hear any ticks or anything.
Good luck to the kid delivering pizzas! I'm 63 and deliver pizzas in a '95 Taurus with only 77k on it. And yes, I have both cassettes and cds to listen to...lol. (Driver and car both prehistoric).
Reminds me of my 03 Grand Prix GT Coupe! Was in pristine condition and was still going when I traded it in with 250k miles on it. Loved the roar of the exhaust.
I don't think you hear it enough but thanks for taking us along with you rather youre flipping cars or fix your R8!
Everything is done “realll quick” 😂 I love this channel so much
I owned a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. 3.8L smoked cars. Thing did 234 hp insanely good engine. Loved the video ! So glad it was in my recommended
Awesome video, loved it! Keep up the great work.
Just found your channel today. Subscribed. I've been considering getting into flipping cars as a part time extra income gig. I picked up an 07 Jeep grand Cherokee for $1800. Was going to fix it and drive it until my car got out of the shop. Then sell it for a decent profit. But the insurance decided after it got to the shop to total it. So now it's going to be my daily driver.
Your three recent flipping videos are the reason I subscribed, keep it up, love these!
Edit: I’d love to see the selling part/when customers check the car out part too
Love the content guys! Keep it coming!
My Grand Prix thought it was a Toyota it kept on running.
Is it still going?
I really like this series, keep it up!
My family has had one of these since new in 97. 3800 v6 na with leather interior. 180k miles and runs fine. Battery replacement is a pain.
The auto-generated captions... "Amber Guinea"
Old WatchChairGo and AmberGuinea 😂😂😂 YT captions are always on point!
Hi JR! Really enjoy your videos. Amazing how you know so much about fixing all these cars. How do you manage all the registrations and titles when you buy and sell them? Is it a nightmare process or is it easier in Kansas? Just wondering. Keep up the good work.
keep on flippin JR. love these vids man
really enjoying these flip videos your channel is gonna explode if you keep it up the good content! much love :)
Stepmom had an 2001. My dad replaced the thermostat housingin it. After that the temp gage was all over the place. At one time it stayed in the hot even with engine off all night. Its a GM thing i guess. Great video. Big fan of Pontiacs. 😊
You got some project ahead of ya kid. Looking forward too see the garage car . Ur in the process
Had a 98 SE with the 3.8 and that thing was an absolute bucket with the interior falling apart and missing a rear door panel but it ran great with 278k tranny was good too.
It seems the shop that had this first did some work on the engine so when you got it, it was in pretty good shape and pretty clean. They just did nothing to clean it on the body. As you said, with rust it is toast - it won't last long for anyone. Still getting rid of it and making a little profit impressed the heck out of me.
Those 3100s are pretty much fleet vehicle engines, they last forever.
the only engine the 4t65e is a decent combo with
LOL
The rest of the car is typical GM 90s 2000s junk though lol
@Dangaio Especially those Grand Prix's with "the kidneys down low" most if not all of those were rental/fleet cars.
DNR5586 Yeah, that base model grille/front bumper on that generation of Grand Prix was so ugly!
Yessir another flip car! Great video as always!
Thanks Po! 👊
Very interesting videos, I love them. Keep it up!
I find it really weird to watch a youtuber from the Wichita area seeing as im on the west side. Love the videos hope to see you and Hoovie on the streets.
I love this flipping car series. Will you please do a video on what you look for in a car to flip?
The coolant temp sensor. Is bad my Grand Prix se had the same issue check the fans.
"Such an easy to work on car."
Until you're power steering pump needs to be replaced. Then it's hell getting under that belt and engine!
Love the growly sound of those GM V6s
Loving these flip vids!
Keep flipping! Great content in those videos!
u gained 2k in less than 24 hours!! can’t wait till ur account blows up u deserve it!
Great vids! Love the content ! 👍
i love your honda flip videos, but i got one of these for $400 and put a couple 100 into in and sold for 1k and made 400 or so back. had to get new tail lights and battery and valve cover recall but that was free lol it has an odd trans but thats 3.8 life they run forever tho. youd probably make a good flip if you get another with a 3.8 they are really good looking cars for the age imo. but keep these flip vids coming lol
You have a great channel. Keep the videos coming! If I had that car I would clean it, load it with subwoofers and then shake all of the rest off!
Love the flip builds!
JRgo - I really enjoy these "flip" videos. You're very good at this, your a good looking guy and your lady is beautiful - you've got a lot to live for so please, please don't faff around with your phone when driving. Hope this "big brother" doesn't spoil your day - it just scares the crap out of me when people do that.
I'd love to see a video on what's your top tips and such for flipping cars. Like you seem to do it so easily.
Was looking into the Grand Prix, was pleased to see you're also in Wichita. Definitely the place for cheap cars.
Dude we had that exact year model engine, regularly got 32mpg with it. That's pretty damn good for 2003 and a v6. I think we had it until like 180,000 miles, parents bought it used with like 10,000 on it for 12 grand in 2003 (not bad at all). We gave it to somebody because my parents not ONCE changed the coolant, the head gasket went on it. Still though it lasted like 12 years and 170,000 for them, so I think those style pontiacs were troopers. They're from the era where GM didn't know that ford was spending 20% less on part cost, those mid 90s early 2000s were a lot of vehicle quality for the money.
Minus how easy they rust.
Loving these new car flip videos.. 😀
Slap a new thermostat on her and she'll be ok
Currently have one and I love her. I’ve had her for about 4 years and she’s always been reliable other than her odd quirks. I’ve gone through 2 other cars before she’s even had a serious problem. Always sat in the driveway never had problems starting up and she only gots 125k bought her from my pops at 100k
Love the flip videos!
MORE FLIPS CARS , I love these so much !!!
Got my 95 Buick Regal with the 3800 last month, AMAZING engine
Small world man. I was in that prison for two years
Love these flip videos, he don't waste no time..
I love your car flipping videos. More! More! More!!
Back in the day, in that platform I owned a Monte with the 3100, and one with the 3800. The Z34 was like a whole different car. I actually miss them both.
Try to find one of the supercharged bonnevilles or Buick park ave.
Riviera or regal
im buying a 2001 GTP
@Lane yes i am LOL
Erik Stenberg I really want an olds mobile LSS
I love these flip videos. I just bought a 1997 Volvo 850 in Kansas City for $900 that’s way nicer than that Grand Prix. I might end up keeping it for myself instead of flipping it. Lol.
Why didn’t you change the coolant temp sensor
When I first saw the car I thought flip it off a cliff, I was surprised how much better it looked after a quick clean up.
My roommate & I used to own a 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix STE, I drove it until the transmission went out.
I love the flip episodes!!!! Make more more more!!!!!
I couldn't care any less about you riding bikes. Actually if I'm honest I forgot you even rode bikes. I rediscovered your vids doing these car repairs. This is one of the best channels on the Tubes. Keep it up dude!!
I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT coupe with the 3.8 and Love that thing just put dual Cherry Bombs on it and it sounds badass
Seeing this make me miss my 02 Se same color it was a good car but the passenger side window stop working and I had to replace the radiator twice and the cv joints twice but when it worked I never had an issue with it
I had one of these. Same temp gauge issue too. And 2 head gaskets.
Dooood! It prolly needs all the blue devil crust fried out, and a new lim gasket, that is when you put all 3400 stuff from heads up and all the plugs and sensors are the same then beast mode grocery tosser.
That was a pretty nice car, I liked it, I wish our car was that easy to work on
Nice flip your girl is so sweet and respectful
Love the channel - you deserve enough subs to do this full time but, given that you are currently at 40k, I am surprised that you can afford all the time you put into your cars.
i love these vids cause it shows just how good a car you can get for little money
Very true and I’ve seen even nicer cars than this for $900. You can find some real gems if you know what you’re looking for.
Good video John
the good thing about the 3.1 and the 3.4 you can swap the heads to the 3.5 and make sure you still use the throttle body if it is the cable driven if it is the fly by wire you still can use it as well as the 3.5. also if you happen to find a steering wheel in good shape with the radio controles you can swap it and have the control work as well no programming involved good thing though because how mass produced the cars are
Lol nobody's doing that
That rust wasn’t even bad you should see Wisconsin cars.
Buffalo ny is bad too
EFEZZE6280 Ontario Canada home of Windsor salt and rust . I refuse to drive an expensive car or truck all year . I keep my restored cars and truck for spring summer and fall then pull them off the road . And drive my old oil, undercoated Grand Prix gt with oil undercoated body
You ever been to Ohio? It's much worse
That rust was nothing compared to my old Wisconsin driven 2005 taurus. Hell it had gaping holes in the floorboards.
BETTER than wheeler dealers...love these flips
Thank you so much for calling it a PCV and not renaming the V. It is a pet peeve of mine or possibly OCD I don't know but thank you. Oh Lord you said MAF also? I I'm so tired of hearing people call it a map sensor. Correct abbreviation pronunciation, and you don't restate words that you've already abbreviated this video is like a beautiful Symphony to my pedantic ears.
T/A Plus Hemi what happens if it is a map sensor they are talking about?
Flips are fun. Waiting for tractor updates. :)
Coming soon! The first box of engine parts is here now 🚜
So do you have to have a dealers license to flip cars where your at?
I use old spark plug boots to replace those pcv and other vacuum fittings
What year is the Honda Grom in your Garage? Other than the R8, it is the probably the coolest thing in your garage!!! LOL
Love flipping cars, making 300-500 on each one and do a couple a week is a good side gig! Enjoying your channel!
NEW FLIP VID THANKS YOU DUDE
How do you deal with insurance when flipping cars like this? I recently bought a new used daily driver for myself. While I was trying to sell the old one, I was paying insurance on both!
90 degree spark plug boot works perfectly for this pcv elbows
Been watching your vids for awhile I found an unwrecked damage free very little rust 07 caliber rt rare orange with 128k on odom for $800 has suspension issues. Perfect flip car but good work car too. lol
Any chance the R8s engine is rebuildable??
Why not work on it at the shop??
ARednecksLife the shop isn’t for long term automotive projects, we run a business out of it.
I would have sold that for 15 and stuck to that price I mean like you said clean the engine bay let me get paid for your time but a good job brother I like what you do hey you know you always seem so happy it's funny I wish I was a happy all the time have a good day God bless
Hutchinson Community College parking stickers. I remember having to peel them off my 84 Caballero (El camino). They never came off very well.
Haha, that’s exactly what they were! 😂
If you buy a car in Hutch, 9/10 times itll have a HCC sticker. Fact. Haha
How is process of buying the car? Tax? Plates? Registration fee? Title change? Adding insurance..then taking it off? How much does registering the car cost for these flips?
All you had to replace was the rubber tubing for that code. My 05 grand am had a evap solenoid code and the U tubing was cracked. I squeezed the tube and the code went away. Didnt fix it since I sold the car since it wasn't safe and rotted out completely
WTH! I’ve never seen a car vacuumed like that lol cool as hell
I enjoyed watching your video. I have a Grand Prix too😎😎👍 also a cool comparison. Pontiac Grand Prix vs 1990 Chevy Caprice.
In Maryland you can only buy and sell 3 cars a year without either registering them or having a dealer's license. Does Kansas not have a similar law?
This is what happens when your dad doesn't have a lot of money to give you. Hoovie said you might need an intervention and Bill Gates.
Kansas where you buy a house for a hundred k, a car for $300, and the car wash with every last Dollar.
