So Dan's taking his mistress while Mick's going to play with himself.
+Gary Bomphray Boom!
That Pedal Show hi guys how do you manage the volume drop in the mistress?
fed usually they’d be using one of Dan’s G2 loopers which has individual volume controls for each loop
@@MusicFed Dan's got the Mistress in between the compressor and the overdrive. I guess he would run the KOT boost side after the Mistress to get away with that volume drop.
Is the Name-drop-horn part of you desert island rig?
This video also brings to light something I'd be willing to bet a lot of us would love to hear (more) of - and that's JAMMING! Together... Loved it. How about little jamming at the end of the video as you guys wrap up the video. THAT would be a treat.
It's great to have something to lift the spirit after the news
That's why I love channels like these. Great way to escape.
What news?
What's the news?
+Andy Birger sky is falling
Wow, those news didn't really cause a lot of shock in Germany. On the other side of the pond it's usually like "Another mass shooting in the US?" but shit, this one is really, really fucked up. Sad that we can get used to shit like that.
Bravo boys! Night time here in NZ, so have just made myself comfy on the couch and asked the wife to bring me a beer while I prepare to listen to your wise and unarguable words.
Cheers! We'll be supping in around four hours or thereabouts...
Mick soloing over loops on a desert island sounded exactly like i dreamed it would.
TC's "beam" function is old school. Like phreaking, where people would play tone sequences into a phone's handset to hack into a mainframe via modem on the other end.
I hope you're not kidding
He's serious.
Yeah the funny thing is you were able to do that with an old captain crunch toy whistle
How about one of these episodes with only pedals under $150-$100
that would be cool!
this is an excellent idea
Mine would be:
Guitar - 68 Telecaster
Pedals - KOT, 80s Ibanez CS9, Strymon Flint, Roland RE-201
Amp - original ‘59 Bassman
Using gear I already have...
Fender 52 reissue tele
Jrockett archer/ King of Tone/ MXR Carbon copy/ Walrus Audio Descent reverb
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
That Ditto Looper session was absolutely nuts
Awesome!!! You guys sounded so good playing together!
I LOVE THIS SHOW
My Royal Overdrive arrives in the mail today! Stoked!
Great show! Thank you both so much... cheers!
Love this challenge guys, both rigs sounded awesome and yet so distinct.
you are best in the business. its like watching a favourite tv series. keep it up.
I call this pub gig essentials. Great episode. I'm always interested to see what other people's 'go to' gear is.
I love those display cases. great show!
That was awesome Dan, seeing the sound take you away. It's a lovely feeling.
The Loop pedal! That's the most important one on a desert island! you can play with mr. wilson! haha
+Juan Martin Reborati WILSON!!!!
Wilsooooon!! haahha
Def should play more together, trading off lead and rhythm. That was great.
Omg! The lonestar and royal overdrive combo is the tone ive been looking for! Thanks!
Great show, great topic. Really enjoyed this episode. Thanks Mick and Dan.
I'd say you're also allowed to have some kind of recording device on the island, so when the rescue comes we get to hear all the great tones and riffs
* Double Hotcake
* EHX Deluxe Memory Man TT1100
* Line 6 DL4
* Whammy 5
Les Paul > AC30/4
YYEEEESSSS !!! You played together........... and it sounded amazing.... more please !!! ... and of course great tones guys !!
Brunetti Singleman 15w- Gibson Les Paul Emerson modded- Royal Overdrive- Zendrive- Keeley Supermod workstation- Keeley Delay workstation.
Love you guys!! I totally enjoy this show, keep up the great work!!
+Randall Montgomery Thank you Randall, we appreciate it!
LOVED Dan blissing out to his whole pedal chain towards the end! And LOVED Mick's efforts with the Ditto - that's just so freakin' cool man, makes me want to get into looping. Bravo lads! I'm slowly making my way through your back catalogue of vids. Thanks so much for the entertainment and inspiration!
+hippyking83 Ah nice one HK - great to have you on board. Thanks for watching!
That Pedal Show is far and away my favorite guitar show on UA-cam. You guys are brilliant :)
Such likeable and knowledgeable guys.
This brought to my mind I have heard of class A, B, C and even D (of course A/B too) amps and I'm not quite sure what that means. Could you guys do an episode around that? If it's not that long of a story, it could be combined with another subject.
Yuppi way hay is the other one Finnish yeat
Almost 2 years from this video, awesome! What about another Desert Island Pedalboard Challenge? Would like to see your approaches after two years! :D
Again another great show, thank you for such great content and discussion, best show on UA-cam
excellent show once again
Mesa Lonestar gets my vote! I have the 4×10 version with the same head (as a combo) and ... well, wow! Love it, love it, love it. Nice choice, Mick!
*fuzz factory 7
*SS/BS mini
*Fairfield shallow water
*empress zoia (loop)
HSS strat -> VX100
My island rigGuitar: 1960 Gibson Les PaulAmp: Blackstar HT Stage 60Pedals: Man only 4 pedals ok here we go. Some kind of wah, a tuner, a noise gate, and a delay. I don't feel I need any overdrive or distortion in this rig since the Blackstar is a rocking combo with some killer distortion and reverb to.If I had to have an overdrive though I'd lose the gate and add a tube screamer. I agree only one overdrive is a tough pick. I got six dirt pedals on one of my boards.Oh and can ya have your phone on the island? If so I'd lose the tuner and just use a tuner app.
Take a drink every time Mick plays the lick at 9:08. He's got me playing it, too. I think I'm going to make it my ringtone.
For us budget constrained folks out here - an interesting challenge would be what rig you put would put together (guitar+amp+pedals) if you only had a grand.
+Jason Clark Now that's a challenge Jason! Not sure where we'd get the gear from, but it'd certainly be interesting!
That Pedal Show you could try it using only Chinese pedals. It's so hit and miss. I'd love your thoughts.
You guys should compare amp modellers, what you like and don't like/practicality factor and the actual sound quality/feel to normal amps! Some modellers could be Axe FX, Kemper, Atomic Amplifire, Helix... etc.
Yeah good idea. Not all of them in one video though, it would be about 1hr and a half long.
S-Gear
If you do that, please compare a THR10 or THR10C for low volume playing!
Gabriel F
I doubt they will do a vid on the THR stuff. I would like to see them do a video on practice amps and bedroom tone and what amps would be good i.e. some tube, some digital/transistor.
+Gabriel F Absolutely agree! Had a THR10C and it's freakin' awesome! The amp sounds are ridiculously good. I've owned a Bluesbreaker and a Blues Jr. and it nailed them both! (If it had a dedicated line out for running through. p.a. it would be perfect.)
Thanks for another awesome episode gentlemen! I love the show because you guys make it both entertaining, and informative.
Keep up the great work!
+Rev.J.R. Kinsfather Thanks Rev! Much appreciated!
Awesome show
Mick, thank you for teaching me a valuable lesson. I have a Lonestar Special and I have had trouble obtaining a sound I like out of it. I have always used the FX loop which engages the second Master Volume and the Boost function. I noticed that you bypassed this function, so I gave it a try. Wow! The blanket has come off the amp. Thank you, for I was on the verge of selling it, and I can't believe I never thought of it.
Yep. I don’t know why so many FX loops bring so many problems. But there we are!
My pick would be
Gibson les paul '59 reissue
Friedman brown eye
Analogman King of tone
Kingsley harlot
Big box deluxe memory man
Chase tone gypsy wah
Brilliant show....fuelled for the day!!
Nice... what fun!
You guys amaze me with your talent and knowledge, all around virtuoso's!
Love the show, keep up the great work that inspires us all!
You guys are making me want to own an Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress even more now. And I already have an Ibanez FL9 flanger.
+Jarrod G [ImAFutureGuitarHero] Do it do it do it!
My choice would be:
- T-Rex Mudhoney II (does transparent overdrive as well as heavy fuzz)
- Moog Cluster Flux (does normal chorus as well as crazy modulated stuff)
- Line 6 DL4 (well, everyone knows this one)
- MXR Reverb (w/ expressionpedal)
Guitar: Fender Custom Shop Jazzmaster
Amp: Tone King Imperial
Mine would be
- Original Germanium FuzzFace or Big Muff Pi
- TC Electronic Spark
- Strymon Mobius
- Strymon BigSky
Harry Souter Strymon :D
+Harry Souter with a coil-splittable Gibson SG and a Marshall JVM410HJS
+Harry Souter tell a lie. Maybe a 65' deluxe reverb reissue in wine red
Then you wouldn't have any overdrive :(
Great show, a lot of fun!
Great episode! really enjoyed watching it =]
I'm new to your channel. I feel like I'm late to the party! You guys do a great job!!
+John L Welcome John, great to have you on board! Hope you find plenty of things here that are useful for your playing and tone. Cheers!
I'd take my Quilter Micropro 12 HD combo anywhere and my eventide h9 with my ditto looper. You guys should take a look at the Quilter amps they are super underrated solid state amps.
Amazing. Micks tone when demonstrating the looper is astounding!! Long live that pedal show
Oh yeah it's friday again! I love this show :)
I want a That Pedal Show that has "It's a sound" on it.
+Aaron Rice Yes!
I think you just sold a bunch of Royal Overdrives.
Right? That Royal Overdrive sounds freaking awesome!
this is the best coment I've seen the whole week!!! LOL👌
who has that kind of cash for an od?
Baby G a baby with a g (grand)
I would have that Lonestar over the Royal OD, and have a Timeline in the FX loop.
This was awesome. Great to see you both basically playing with your favourite 'toys' because it's what we all do. I totally associate with your enthusiasm for all things guitar. Your videos have become like a TV show I look forward to watching. Keep it up!
Great show!
Surprised nobody picked the Digitech Trio+. Band in a Box plus Looper!
Because it forgets how to play and you have to teach it everything lol
There would never be enough power either
Good call!
I agree, a Trio+ is as must !!
I'd like to see the opposite of this challenge, where you each get to display your ultimate pedal-board.
Thanks guys, great show as always. I'd love to see more in depth stuff with the timeline, I have had mine for 3 years and am constantly finding new things about it. Be fun to hear how your brain wraps around it. Cheers fellas
Good video again. Thanks!
Hmmm.... What about a brand loyal challenge, see if you can get a good board from a specific company (maybe do a series) or see if what you can each do with a specific budget, either as a head to head or to set up a lead/rythmn combo with a set total.
Anyhoo, love the vids, keep up the good work!
The mesa distortion channel reminds me of every tone ive heard at guitar center or sam ash, eck !
That overdrive pedal is unbelievable, especially when paired with the flashback. I could listen to that all day.
Dare I say , the best show yet .
Great playing guys , lots of inspiration as usual .
18:52 Corona Chorus sure is a name that didn’t age well...
Mick, I thought you said the TubeScreamer would be the last pedal you'd get rid off!
My whole world is a LIE!!
Yeah, mick!
+A Quest For Tone Hahaha! I explain it in the vid. It would be, but the VW is more versatile, so a better desert island choice. Thanks for watching! :0)
just got to that part and instantly felt dumb! keep up the great work, you guys are awesome!
Yay!! Thanks Guys!!!
Great fun while learning... perfect.
well done chaps 😊😊😊
whats song is that from at 31:40?
The solo section from Lenny Kravtiz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way?"
It's a sound...
enjoy every week thanks again. xxx
This is easily my favourite channel, Dan and mick are amazing guitarists, real inspiration for younger guys like me. I could listen to them play for hours!!
As soon as the Electric Mistress came on I immediately thought of Alice in Chains. Was that pedal used on Rooster?
Funny! That's the same thing I thought! I'm curious if that's what they used on that song as well.
I'm not sure, but Jerry has always been known to use Dunlop stuff...I would say either a Phase 90 or Rotovibe.
+Drew Hammond It's definitely a flanger, not a phaser.
+Drew Hammond sorry but Rooster clean tone is not a Phase 90 or Rotovibe. You're talking about his live board + endorsements anyway, the studio is totally different, people dont make choices based on affiliation or sponsorship. No offense but really u gotta use your ears.. its definitely a Flanger.
+Daniel Simon Yes, I was going off of his live rig. I hadn't heard the song in quote some time. My ears work just fine, thanks. Try and get over yourself. lol!
Mesa Boogie Mark V. One delay pedal. All you ever need.
I'd need modulation and fuzz, at least.
A guitar maybe?
and a copy of hustler
GigglingDickhead good save. And some "tanning" lotion. Unless I can bring my wife, in which case, every guitar amp ever made would be "too loud" for the island.
aixpert291 it's hard to find a portable amp that's louder than my wife.
My Friday night fix! I've enjoyed watching all your videos from when they were still on the previous channel. Cheers from the Philippines!
Great video! I enjoyed it a lot! I must say I was very surprised by both choices. With the Van Weelden a little bit of a Dutch touch. I am from the Netherlands too, you see. Thanks for the excellent explanation for each choice. I hope you have a lot of fun on that sunny island!
I don't mean to sound pedantic but I think you mean deserted island, Australia is a desert island.
+lame007 Among the best pedantic comments ever. Because it's always referred to as a deserted island, right? Top of the class 007!
That Pedal Show I want to go to a dessert island. I like dessert :)
technically it is a desert continent
Desert island??? Or deserted island?
or dessert island lol
Another great show guys. Is it crazy that i'm up watching it when it uploads at 4am west coast time?? Great content, funny as usual, tasty playing. These could run an hour and I'd be happy. Keep up the good work and I'll keep spreading the word as all of us supporters should.
Awesome video guys! Loved it! 😃
What, no EHX C9? No DOD Gonkulator? No Korg Miku?
+David Dyte Actually a C9 is a good shout! Could comp some organ chords for looping fun.
If you combined your delay and reverb into one TC pedal... can be done.
Why is this video so long? Boss Metal Zone....conversation over. Maybe 38mins of MZ tonez!!!!!!
+NYC LP Player You mean four Boss Metal Zones, surely?!
Four HM-2s. Proper tone.
And a Digitech Death Metal as a hairy boost.
Zach Falconer ALL THE GAIN. no mids
What about doing a desert island dungeon? You have to each choose 1 amp, 1 guitar and 4 pedals that get locked up for ever! Great show guys.
Great video. That Royal Overdrive sounds so good with the Strat.
Using the TC pedals is cheating. He can phone in new sounds for as long as the generator that powers his island setup delivers.
I am also missing any considerations of what device to employ to get a steady power delivery for any of it, granted the quality of your standard island genny.
That and the amount of cable needed to put enough distance between the person playing and the competing chug of said power delivery system.
These are important island considerations. I have not even gotten into the issues of the mental echo chamber of village dogs alerting each other up and down the coast for hours in response to that first power chord. Or the potential threat of an accumulating annoyance among local fishermen as fuel that would have supplied their engines is slowly drained from the limited common pool brought in weekly by the failing public boat.
This is why islands tend to have shitty little homemade ukuleles with a maximum of 5 frets - which is about as far as you will successfully get without a proper algorithm and proper tools - PLUS fretwire that has not been already turned into fishing hooks or improvised engine repairs or emergency dental bracers is incredibly sparse granted the 100% import taxes imposed by corrupt national government and whatever even more piraty taxes are imposed by the competing local factions of military and police and their current politico-religious straw man figureheads.
My advice? Craft a bamboo flute and join the 60 man village band and never allow yourself think too deeply about any of it.
really enjoyed the joy on Dan's face whilst he was jamming out on his rig, man that epic tone could take you away for days
Hey guys, terrific show yet again, thank you. Really fun concept. I can definitely appreciate how difficult it is to choose just "4 pedals". Anyway thanks again guys, the weekend is off to a great start. I hope you have a good weekend yourselves.
that show is defensively on of the best moments of the week. thank you guys!
Great video. By necessity I have a small board and this was very helpful
Nice boards, guys. Really liked the sounds from both.
THis was great!
Another nice one guys! Thanks for starting the weekend with fun :)
You guys are hilarious. Fun to watch!
Great video concept guys. I have enjoyed this one the most so far.
+Derek Rabbers Thanks Derek! Hopefully we'll get some more challenges that you enjoy too. Thanks for watching!
genuinely two of the nicest players I hear on UA-cam. tone feel and gear all perfect
You couldn't go wrong with either rig. Great video.
