That’s so kind, thank you! 🤩 And yes, Hayley Mills deserves a do-over! If they ever decide to do another one where Cooper is on the run, Hayley needs to be brought back to go after him! 🔥🍿
@@LadyJenevia Yeah, I'm not usually a fan of sequels (since they're typically cash grabs), but I'd want a "Trap" sequel just to flesh out her character. ❤️
I read somewhere that she was tickled when Night asked if she would be his profiler. The audience of a certain age would get the chuckle of having the popular child star of The Parent TRAP in this film.😊
Why did Lady Raven invite herself to the house? She was buying time! She’d already posted the situation online so her followers could tell FBI where the victim was. She was buying time for them to get to his real house (not a safe house). So the character was fine and kept up the suspense. But Saleka couldn’t act the part. Sadly, she needs lessons if she wants to have an acting career besides the singing one.
Excellent movie review Lady Jenevia. I thought JH removing his shirt was going to reveal a "patchwork" of scars or damage. But nope, just eye candy for the audience. My final score which I record in my movie journal was 3.5/5. Thanks for the engaging and fun video. :):)

The shirt. He plans on killing her right there, takes off his shirt to shower off the blood (pants too we don’t need to see), grabs another set of clothes and slips through the tunnel. Maybe that was his plan. He’s a sharp one, that Cooper.😊
Definitely-underrated. I feel people who are calling it just a “nepo vehicle” are being dishonest. They just don’t want to admit that Saleka IS talented enough to warrant such a long concert sequence.🤔🤷🏼
@@JosephSchwarzkopf-m9k the majority of the criticism aimed at her isn't for the concert sequences though. There's no denying she's a talented singer but her acting isn't anywhere near as good. And that's a massive problem because she suddenly becomes one of the main characters.

Great review!! I enjoyed this one. Loved Hartnett's performance. 👏 Appreciated your nuanced discussion of the technicalities of film acting, something I probably take for granted far too often.
He was INCREDIBLE in this! I love how more or less the entire TRAP press tour (on the audience side) has been people being excited about seeing Josh Hartnett back on the big screen. I've seen him in other things since the peak of his popularity but this is his first STARRING role (number one on the call sheet) for a major studio film in quite some time so I can understand why the people who don't live and breathe the film industry would see this as his comeback role. 🫶🏻🍿
@LadyJenevia I definitely kind of see this film that way! Though I did see him in Nolan and Ritchie's casts (and possibly more I'm forgetting) over the last few years, it had been some time since it felt like he got the spotlight he *deserves.* 😊
YES! I also watched him on Penny Dreadful when that was on but 1) that was a series as opposed to a film and 2) it's been A WHILE since then so I don't remember a lot of the details. I remember he was good in it, though! 😊
Thanks for the points you covered. Agree that SS acting was not sufficient for her acting parts but great as the popstar. Her Dad did her no favours infact the films weaknesses all seem to relate to him shoehorning himself/daughter into roles/plot. Enjoyed the rest of the film immensely.
As someone who watched the 2010 Avatar film and saw M. Night Shyamalan's interview about why he put the only people of color as the facist conquerors of the fire nation while all the white people were oppressed for 100 years, I'm not surprised that he had that weird twist with Lady Raven going with a weird murderous man when no WOC or women would do that. But I still find it weird, to say the least.
If there was something in the film to establish her personality before that in such a way where we as the audience understood something like, 'Oh she's reckless/impulsive/etc.' then MAYBE I could have followed it a little bit easier. But up until that point all we see is that she's a popstar doing her concert. There's no "personality" ~ it's only her performing her songs to an arena of fans. But thank you for agreeing that no WOC would do that because ABSOLUTELY NOT! 😆
I think he took off his shirt when he was telling her he was going to kill her because that’s what he always did. And it would heighten her terror. As for the ending: 😊 we have seen how sharp the psychopath’s intelligence is. Twelve victims in 7 years. Safe houses. A tunnel. That smile at the end….How cool would it be if he escaped and they made a sequel with him and Hayley Mills facing off one on one? THAT elevated concept (á la Nolan’s Insomnia) would be great. No comedic elements, just straight suspenseful thriller. I’d buy that screenplay in a heartbeat. Speaking of hearts, I have been crushing on Josh Hartnett for 20+ years 😊 And not just because of his eternal hotness but because of his terrific acting chops. I converted my hubby, too, and now we have collected everything he’s done. Hubs especially likes his latest indie, Ida Red (2023). I like the sunglasses thing. 😏
I give this movie a full 5 stars. At the end I wanted to stand up and say to the audience- $20 to whoever can tell me why he took off his shirt? . Anyway what I actually did was announce loudly, I would go see that concert and the girl next to me agreed.
I read just recently that the lyrics to the songs mimicked the wheels turning in Cooper’s head. I didn’t pay attention to the songs but I’ll listen closely when we see it again tomorrow.
Alison Pill blew me out of the water in this and barely anybody is talking about it. Thank you for mentioning her. Edit: I think Cooper took his shirt off because of the drugs his wife put in the pie.
@@mewmedic Perhaps some people are skipping mentioning her because doing so would involve spoiling the ending? I knew I needed to make sure to give a spoilers disclaimer before I started talking about how she acted the hell out of her material. 🤭
He takes his shirt off bcuz we know he has OCD and this is him not wanting to get blood on his shirt. 😆 I love every preposterous detail like this in Nights script😊
Amazing review. Yet again you have made me want to go and watch a film I wasn't sure about. Also love the fall out boy lyric reference, loved that. Also Hailey Mills parent trap, yes I'm the same, I watched the original first too and I still feel it's superior
My country trolled all kids by releasing that on free state TV instead of the new one that'd come out. A lot of people my age still get excited seeing the Lindsay Lohan "new one." Loved the old one too.
Best review of Trap I have seen! You were fair, descriptive and concise! LOVE LOVE LOVE. I ❤ M. Knight but his movies can leave you wanting “something” … This review described EVERYTHING that was good, bad and mid. I suscribe!!! Also planning on going down a rabbit hole on your channel 🫶🏼

I liked the movie overall. I gave it 3/5. It was a fun time at the cinema. I agree the part where Lady Raven went to the family home was where things got derailed. We don’t need a sequel.
You know what would be a twist for a N. Night Shyamalan movie- NO TWIST! Imagine the outrage hahaha. But I agree, maybe not all of Shyamalan movies are good, but at least they are unique and new ideas. Not many of those in blockbusters anymore.
We love it more bcuz there is no twist! Love Being charmed by Cooper and rooting for him to escape! How wonderfully absurd is that! Kudos to Hartnett for switching so smoothly from doting firefighter dad to a guy who chops up his victims. 😆
So I don’t know if you were joking when you said academy award, but I genuinely think he’s my #1 so far this year. I even told me friend that. I absolutely loved his performance
I saw this twice on opening day! Subscribed! This is an original IP and it was refreshing. SPOILER: How was he ever going to get off the roof? Lolz. Climb or jump and just leave Riley?
As a transplant to California, I will still watch M. Night Shyamalan movies just for the pleasure of watching the local scenery. Makes me miss my friends, family and WaWa that much more.
Great video, as per usual!😍 I wasn’t intrigued by the trailer when I first watched it because it felt like too much of a horror film and I am not a fan of the genre, but I definitely want to give it a shot now! 🤩💪🏻 I loved your analysis of the whole metaphor of parenthood carried out by the film. 🤩🫶🏻 Lots of love from Rome💕
A lot of M. Night Shymalan’s “horror” has had crossover appeal to people who aren’t diehard followers of the genre and this one definitely feels like more of a thriller first, horror second type of film. 🍿
I thought that too but it would have to be a drama and Hartnett’s role would not be the fun role where he gets to give both deadpan and straight face performance. I would like for Night to do a same tone sequel tho. Because we just KNOW Cooper is going to escape that van 😂
Such a fun review! Thanks! Re the shirt-off thing. We know he has OCD as seen earlier, and removing his shirt would be typical for an obsession with neatness and order. Pretty ghoulish, taking care to neatly fold the shirt before chopping his wife into pieces 😂 Why not the pants? He is going to do the murder “in the regular way.” Kill her then kill himself. And shifting to that act of taking off his pants would interrupt the tension of that scene. Why show something that we can already presume? Or, why strip down if he’s going to kill himself? The shirt-off purpose is, I think, to emphasize his obsession with order ( “I’m in control.”). I agree 200% that the Hartnett-Pill scene is outstanding. Even carrying the campiness tone, they kill that scene. I’ve been a Hartnett fan for 20+ years and my hubs has indulged me by letting me buy everything he’s ever made 😊 (His indie film performances are terrific: August, Bunraku, Oh, Lucy, Inherit the Viper are just a few.)

oh my god, you spoke my mind!!! josh hartnett was the best thing of this film. i really really really enjoyed his performance and his acts... it was so entertaning and funny andddd he was SO HOT!!! i read somewhere that it was his idea to take off his shirt 🤭🤭 thank you king 🤭 imagine m. night doing a campy sequel where connor would just escape from the police over and over and over again.. "where is he?! oh he escaped AGAIN!" ah. i loved it. great video. xoxoxo
The shirt off, didn’t want to get blood on it 😂 and the neat folding (again) to show his OCD. He was so great in this role! Fun and menacing and charming and sly. Yes! We want to see more of Cooper! You know he’s going to find a way out of that van and Dr Grant will have to try to trap him again. And again. What a hoot, rooting for a serial killer! 😆
Hailey Mills is my favorite Disney kid. All her teen movie rolls (The Trouble with Angels is my favorite) as well as my favorite person to pay a teacher.
I feel like people also forget that she was the launchpad for the Saved by the Bell franchise. She was the top-billed star of the series "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" that was reworked and brought back as Saved by the Bell. The Parent Trap, Pollyanna, and That Darn Cat were the films I had on heavy rotation as a child, though. 🍿
@@LadyJenevia I had my kids watching her Parent Trap last month and they loved it. I am still trying to get the 10yo on board for Pollyanna, but I've given up with the 17yo. She is her own entity entirely. Oh, how I miss when you could have the old watch thrill of finding them just starting on TV and you run for popcorn and a koolaid.
I don’t remember what interview it was but I think he was explaining his connection to the story? Or something like that? It was years ago so I wouldn’t know where to look to find the exact one. 😂
@@LadyJenevia Hubs and I haven’t had such fun watching a movie for years! We are going to stream it, buy the dvd, and hopefully get it on VOD 😂 Hartnett and Night are hilarious together. How do you root for a serial killer? How does Hartnett do deadpan menace and sweet doting daddy with just a change of expression in his face and EYES?! ❤❤❤
Why do I find this sentiment so funny, HELP- 😂 Thank you very much, though! I had such fun watching Josh Hartnett be a total menace so I will take it as a massive compliment!
I wanted this to be a big hit for Josh Hartnett especially; I don't think it was a big flop, but it wasn't the reception I hoped for Josh whom we haven't seen much of lately...maybe the next one will be a big success.
Josh had 4 performances out last year 😁 Oppenheimer, The Fear Index, Operation Fortune, and Black Mirror. This year The Bear as well as Trap. Next year Fight or Flight. He says he spends 90% of his time with friends and family and 10% on acting and that’s how he likes to live his life. Refreshing to see an actor with his head on straight 😊
[SPOILERS IN COMMENT] . . . . Overall... I had no major problem with Saleka's performance. Like, through all of that she was doing at least well enough of someone panic-improving. Her awkwardness at interjecting random bullshit FIT how awkward that move would actually be. Her goading Hartnett more and more until everything went absolutely sideways, but having this stiffness through it all made sense because she WAS walking herself out on a limb. And I honestly liked the "Go to your room, Norman!" scene BECAUSE it failed. Cooper isn't some neurotic like Norman Bates. He does have mommy issues, but he's way too clever to fall for the move. It pisses him off, no doubt. But he can still separate these things (when he's not full of ketamine or whatever). I do agree Haley Mills was underused, she deserved so much more here. But I don't agree with having Haley do the "Mom" routine, because in the setting it could have only ended with Haley getting bodied. As a side note: right up until the very end I was waiting for this to segue into an Unbreakable/Split/Glass continuation. Cooper suddenly shows HOW he slices people up like deli meat with telekinesis. When he's loaded into the police truck, he's diverted to whatever shady ass conclave those weirdos had for storing supers, something like that. Given the overall quality of everything, I wouldn't have even been entirely opposed to the idea. But I do think it's better as a stand alone and letting Cooper just be a twisted bastard.
Yeah, I'm VERY curious about if there's any intention of doing a sequel because most of the film doesn't feel like a lead-up to that BUT the ending (him getting out of his handcuffs) to me DOES feel like a set-up to continue the story. I haven't had time to look into whether or not Shyamalan wants to keep it going though and he might not want to talk about the answer to that question until the film has been out for a little bit longer. 👀
My take is that this is a movie written by a 13 yo girl. So Lady Raven (Gaga) is perfection. I mean wouldn't you want your favorite superstar hero take over and use her smarts to outsmart the butcher? With this premise everything else falls into place.
It worked for me bc saleka was playing a pop start who was not an actor who was trying to put on an act at the house to save the guy who was trapped and catch the killer.
I was ready to give this movie a chance, bec. I'm a Millenial and had a crush on Josh Hartnett in middle school but that's only bec. I thought Lady Raven would remain a background character. I'm not a fan of Nepo Babies, who are given more than they can chew. They are already making runways annoying to watch, I refuse to cede them another of my hobbies/happy place!
😂 Okay but she’s only doing more in the middle of the movie. The majority of it is Josh doing INCREDIBLE work and if you’re a fan of him I still believe it’s worth the watch. 🤭🍿
Yeah, his movies truly are escapes from reality, more than most other directors. I really-respect the way that he shamelessly promoted his daughter and her musical talent with Trap. No one can honestly say that this is ALL 100% nepotism. She DOES have singing talent. This movie just brought a lot more publicity to what has already been there for a few years now.
So I hope you see this. And I hope they do a sequel. Wouldn’t it be great for him to get out and escape and disappear for a bit. Maybe become better or reformed slightly. But for a plot, maybe have his daughter , because of her notoriety as his daughter, becomes the victim of another psychopath, and he has to use his skills to outmaneuver this person who in many ways is his equal, and have hartnett be a hero type. Have it be like a Moriarty/Sherlock cat and mouse game. What do you think about that idea?
@@mgariepy42 no way i think they could easily make it campy and fun, the first had very serious moments too, what i said is just an outline. but damn man revisiting this idea just reminds me of how much fun we had watching it. hartnett just brought so much to the character, he was so fun to watch. that laugh and his face at the very end, just brilliant and hilarious
This movie doesn't have a twist, which works in the movie's favour. However, it could easily have had the twist where the reason the profiler knows so much about the killer and their behaviour because she's the mother who abused him as a kid that caused him to become The Butcher in the first place.
I like Josh Heartnett's movies. With that said The trailers for this movie were incredibly misleading. Trap is what happened when M Night Shyamalan trapped everybody in a movie theater to watch his daughter's crappy pop music and worse yet her horrible acting this is the epitome of a nepo movie
The premise of this movie could have been spectacular if the movie was more like with the trailers promised us the serial killer didn't kill anybody nobody died in this movie so how was that a good movie about a serial killer trapped
@@CurtisDofMontanaIt’s a cat and mouse thriller with a little tongue in cheek flair. M Knight TOLD us it wasn’t like his other films. It’s not a slasher movie.

But Riley was with them. He wouldn’t reveal himself as the killer to her. Lady Raven was clever. I wish Saleka could have been better in the role.
Love your review!
The reveal with Hartnett and Pill is terrific!
Josh hartnett has always been IT for me...other than the ones no longer with us (rip Brad renfro).
I give this movie a full 5 stars. At the end I wanted to stand up and say to the audience- $20 to whoever can tell me why he took off his shirt? . Anyway what I actually did was announce loudly, I would go see that concert and the girl next to me agreed.
Let’s see how the film does, maybe if it’s a big enough hit she’ll do a tour of the songs from the soundtrack. 😂🍿
I read just recently that the lyrics to the songs mimicked the wheels turning in Cooper’s head. I didn’t pay attention to the songs but I’ll listen closely when we see it again tomorrow.
I agree. She should and will.😎
Give me the $20! He takes his shirt off because he’s going to chop up his wife and doesn’t want to get blood on it.😂 Remember, he has OCD.
@@LadyJenevia Agree. She is the reveal. Can’t bring her into the light!
Thank you so much, Anna! I hope you enjoy the movie! 🙋🏻♀️🍿🔥
That’s so nice of you, welcome! I do have a playlist picking out some of my favourite videos I have published along with some of my more recent reviews, and I regularly update that playlist the more videos I post! 🍿
Love
Being charmed by Cooper and rooting for him to escape! How wonderfully absurd is that! Kudos to Hartnett for switching so smoothly from doting firefighter dad to a guy who chops up his victims. 😆
Such a fun movie! I loved Kid Cudi's cameo/role & the song he sings with Lady Raven is actually a bop for me ❤
I want a deleted scene just following Kid Cudi’s character around because he seems like the type of person to serve ENTERTAINMENT! 😂🍿
So I don’t know if you were joking when you said academy award, but I genuinely think he’s my #1 so far this year. I even told me friend that. I absolutely loved his performance
Lol so about 7:40 you elaborate that you’re serious and I totally agree 😂
I saw this twice on opening day! Subscribed! This is an original IP and it was refreshing.
SPOILER:
How was he ever going to get off the roof? Lolz. Climb or jump and just leave Riley?
You want to find sense in this film ?! 😂 I love the whole preposterous concept! How many improbabilities can we count?! Hilarious !
As a transplant to California, I will still watch M. Night Shyamalan movies just for the pleasure of watching the local scenery. Makes me miss my friends, family and WaWa that much more.
Great video, as per usual!😍
I wasn’t intrigued by the trailer when I first watched it because it felt like too much of a horror film and I am not a fan of the genre, but I definitely want to give it a shot now! 🤩💪🏻 I loved your analysis of the whole metaphor of parenthood carried out by the film. 🤩🫶🏻
Lots of love from Rome💕
A lot of M. Night Shymalan’s “horror” has had crossover appeal to people who aren’t diehard followers of the genre and this one definitely feels like more of a thriller first, horror second type of film. 🍿
@@LadyJenevia Oh, I see! Interesting! I didn’t know that! Thank you so much for your kind reply🫶🏻🩷
Horror lite.😆
Hoping for a sequel with Josh and Hailey play cat and mouse.
I thought that too but it would have to be a drama and Hartnett’s role would not be the fun role where he gets to give both deadpan and straight face performance. I would like for Night to do a same tone sequel tho. Because we just KNOW Cooper is going to escape that van 😂
This is a great review. I totally agree with you.
I’ve been a Hartnett fan for 20+ years and my hubs has indulged me by letting me buy everything he’s ever made 😊
(His indie film performances are terrific: August, Bunraku, Oh, Lucy, Inherit the Viper are just a few.)
oh my god, you spoke my mind!!! josh hartnett was the best thing of this film. i really really really enjoyed his performance and his acts... it was so entertaning and funny andddd he was SO HOT!!! i read somewhere that it was his idea to take off his shirt 🤭🤭 thank you king 🤭
imagine m. night doing a campy sequel where connor would just escape from the police over and over and over again..
Millennial here. Josh was an eye candy and I saw what Night did here. I attest 😂
Based on an AmandaTheJedi review of Old, isn't it based on a short story not written by Shamaylan?
I don’t remember what interview it was but I think he was explaining his connection to the story? Or something like that? It was years ago so I wouldn’t know where to look to find the exact one. 😂
@@ToxoPeep i was thinking the same thing 😂
I believe it’s a manga or a comic book
Love josh love josh love josh❤❤❤❤
He was INCREDIBLE, I want to go see it again just for the fun of watching him pull all those dramatic stunts. 🤭
I enjoyed your review more than I enjoyed the actual film 😊
Why do I find this sentiment so funny, HELP- 😂
Thank you very much, though!

I tend to agree. Seems like it is hinting at a sequel.🤔
Old is also based on a graphic novel that follows the original plot mostly with the ending changed a bit.
@@LadyJenevia I'll watch it on streaming but I'm not watching it in theater!
@@moustik31 Well I hope you mostly enjoy it whenever you do get around to watching it! 😊🍿
@@LadyJenevia Thank you!

I wish instead of going to the pop concert, they go see Tana Mongeau on tour 😂 then the end of the movie is Tana doing a story time of what happened.
That would be a more serious plot tho. Doing a sequel with the same campy take on a thriller would be tough.
20:18 That Lil Nas X cameo is great! 😂
I loves the movie, but why an artist doest have a phone of her own
She’s in costume. No pockets.
@@CurtisDofMontana that’s what makes this great try
@@CurtisDofMontanaIt’s a cat and mouse thriller with a little tongue in cheek flair. M Knight TOLD us it wasn’t like his other films. It’s not a slasher movie.

this whole movie was made to promote his daughters mediocre music lol
Definitely-underrated. I feel people who are calling it just a “nepo vehicle” are being dishonest. They just don’t want to admit that Saleka IS talented enough to warrant such a long concert sequence.
I think her performance on stage is great, solid singer-songwriter. It’s her acting that falls short. Very. Flattens flow till she’s out of it again.
it was so obvious, the bike scene... of course he will get something from it to escape afterwards...
saved to my “watch later” for after i see the movie, i’ll be back with my thoughts ❤ your opening line has me excited for the film all over again
