A script that didn;t sound like it was written in one evening. Character behavior that was not so non-sensical and cartoonish. But hey, if you had 'fun' glad you don't feel your money was wasted.
I’m kinda shocked that this is getting so many bad reviews because I had an absolute blast watching this. Patrick Bateman father core (he’s killed so many people but I love him anyways lol)
Its getting bad reviews I think because people are used to seeing Marvel movies and films told from a certain perspective. M. Night has a distinctive way of creating films.
I had the time of my life. This movie was so fun. I loved every moment of it and I never was a Shyamalan fan, so I had zero expectations going into it. And I found it really pretty, too. There are some gorgeous scenes in it that I didn't see anyone talking about. And I thought the songs were pretty good. I'm not a pop fan, but I enjoyed them.
Same. It was so entertaining. Will watch it again. Yes, there are plot holes, but the acting is good and makes up for it. I enjoyed the music, the humor and suspense. Hartnett was awesome.

Has anyone noticed that TRAP follows a trend established in both SPLIT and Unbreakable? Look at their titles. TRAP and SPLIT have these bars across them which, in my opinion, hints at a relation between these two films. SPOILERS: When Raven and Cooper are in the limo heading towards this main street in town, he says something about getting "the urges" when he was confessing to being The Butcher, because he sees his victims, people who think they're whole, as not worthy of feeling whole. This philosophy is similar to The Beast's philosophy in SPLIT.
I adored the simplicity of Trap. In a world of cinematic universes that increasingly feel more like live-action compilations of references to media outside of films solely made for those who want to point at the screen in recognition of a reference they recognize to declare fhey’re better than everyone else for having picked up a comic book, Trap was a beautiful, singular event that exists simply to be enjoyed. I’m also a huge fan of concerts and live music, so this felt like a wonderful love letter to that as well. Just absolutely wonderful. Had a great time with it. More filmmakers need to be like Shyalmalan, telling stories simply because they love doing it.
There are so many people for whatever reason hate Shyamalan and I think they were just ready to drag it to filth when it was released and not give it a chance but I agree with you I do not think it is that bad
I love how you mention the hitman games... That is EXACTLY what was going through my mind when I was watching this film. Twin Peaks was thriller, horror and comedy. Trap is a thriller and a comedy, and it's main character is Cooper, who was also a main character in Twin Peaks. That's what I'm going with.
Just got home from this film and genuinely felt like I was going insane seeing the titles and thumbnails from some other reviews. Sure not the best film ever that will knock your socks off, but still very solid. Had a great time in theaters seeing one of my favorite hunks chew the goddamn scenery.

I loved this movie! I'm glad you mentioned Hitman because that was all I thought about too. Yes, it's convoluted and falls apart plot wise at the end but the acting is SO good and Josh was very hot so it's a 10/10 for me
“With intentional comedic elements” is lost on a lot of people. From the bizarre and hilarious concept, a serial killer and doting dad trapped by an FBI profiler at a 20,000 seat faux Swiftie concert to Hartnett’s brilliant parody of psychopaths with hearts of gold, this movie is near perfect entertainment. We’re going to see it again. 😁
You are almost right ;) I've watched it twice already. I noticed a lot of interesting details in Cooper's character. For all its dark side, glimmers of humanity were present throughout the film. Shyamalan shows this ironically.
Trap was such a blast it felt like being in a concert & the crowd experience just makes it even way better! Josh Hartnett was just so incredible as The Butcher!
Trap is a great movie experience. M.Night Shyamalan delivers a ridiculously entertaining thriller packed with twists, turns and surprises from start to finish. The selling point is Josh Harnett as the butcher, a distinguished performance from the seasoned actor, Shyamalan‘s audacious script gives Harnett the ability to cut loose in role. Blurring the lines between denial and insanity, Harnett is utterly engrossing as the infamous Butcher. The supporting cast do an affable job in their respective roles, particularly Ariel Donoghue as the Butcher’s daughter. The father/daughter relationship adds complex layers to the character of Butcher. The film isn’t perfect. The film isn’t perfect, during the second half he looses his grip on fluidity, relying too much on radical plot conveniences, that get quite silly and comical by the film’s end. Nonetheless the story ends with a very clever twist. If you can ignore the lack of logic, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the film’s ability to keep you guessing. Shyamalan maintains a healthy amount of suspense throughout. It’s worth watching once. I had a great time and I can’t wait to watch it again.
The negative critics seem to overthink it. It's not an exercise in plausibility, it's more like a rollercoaster ride where you just hang on. There's a lot of fresh ideas here. I love that it gets you routing for the bad guy. Some say daughter's acting was bad, didn't notice that, and it's cool to make a vehicle for her talent. Money buys you a seat sometimes, why not indulge in it?
i saw this movie with my dad and we went in totally blind, we only knew it was about a dad taking his teen daughter to a concert and that spoke to us. i think watching it without any knowledge was a good call, i liked it a lot even tho i was super stressed the whole time
It was so much fun seeing Trap (I forgot his name) use his cunning and intellect to be resourceful and get out of tricky situations. There were so few deus ex machinas; most of the time he survives because of his problem solving, like swiping the dude's badge and randomly testing out doors to over-oiling the fry machine to pretending to be a worker in a red apron when he scoped out the roof. My complaint is that it goes on a bit too long and they, for obvious reasons, incorporated Lady Raven into the story either a bit too much or a bit too little; she should have either been a minor character that has an interaction with our anti-hero, or been along for the ride up until the very end. Instead she plays a large part in the movie but gets abandoned at the end of the second act never to be seen again. It feels incomplete. The run-time was long too. Overall though it was a really fun time. And Trap, Josh Hartnett, is so good at his phony/fake smile "I'm grinning but inside I'm panicking and thinking of the best way to kill you if I have to" routine. Would watch again; currently trying to drag my incredulous friends to the theater.
Oh, and his name is "The Butcher" so if he's going to have a cleaver it should be this menacing gigantic steer-splitter; not something from the cheap-end from Cutco with a blade the size of an iPhone 13; the small one. 7/10
I also did don't dislike this movie like others are doing. It's a average movie but watchable because I am very picky with movies and I watched it whole says it is not that bad. Josh Hartnett performance was good

Me too! I loved it too! In fact, apart from Trap there are only three M Night movies that I don't like (or own) on home video. He's a unique film maker, and a great auteur. Well done again M Night. It's not your best movie, but it's still pretty damn good!
the ending just kind of leaves me saying… aren’t they just going to recuff him once they open the back of the van? like what now i know he’s good at one on one combat but they’re presumably taking him to the police station where there will be more cops and the fbi from earlier, what’s his next move?
Ngl I agree there were some noticeable plot holes in the film but overall I liked it. It ain’t Oscar worthy for sure but it’s still a good time if ur hanging out w friends or family.
I agree with a majority of your points, but personally I struggled with the beginning of the movie and found myself enjoying the last act more. SPOILER ALERT, to me when Cooper was scouting the area it felt clumsy, unorganized, not something I would expect out of someone with his experience. In retrospect he obviously didn't know that it was a trap, but even so the manner in which he carried himself felt too awkward to me. I enjoyed the tenser, more drawn out scenes, as they allowed me to understand his character further. Watching him take notes of his mistakes and even asking his wife what the issue was, it felt very natural to me. Overall amazing movie and great experience. I'd love to rewatch it and take a dive into the script so I can further analyze. ^^
finally a genuine review for this movie! i just dont understand all the hate for it, it was so much fun and the theater i was watching it in loved it. i saw a review that was criticizing how convenient everything was for cooper? that's classic main character! if all stories didnt have constant conveniences for the protagonist, how would they move along?
If at any point there was a time to support an original movie, this one is it. So far it seems Trap won't do that well in the box office, and people are always saying to go support original films. Go watch this one! It's a solid, fun thriller with a great central performance. It's a great time.
Idk for some reason I feel like Josh kind of gives me a "human Michael Meyers" vibe because he kept escaping/ surviving. And maybe also because he was in H20, and he would technically be Michael's nephew. Shyamalan could def spin into that somehow if he got the rights &/or did a second film.
This was the absolute worst movie he has ever made in his entire career and i wish i could wash my eyeballs after watching that absolute monstrosity he called a movie

Josh Hartnett's performance is the definite highlight of this film. The protagonist is so charming, and has a sweet relationship with his daughter, that it's easy to root for him, despite him being the clear baddie. It gives me "You" vibes, with Penn Badgley.
@@meredithdurfy2337 No, not really, but since he's narrating, and justifying himself to the audience, you tend to empathise with him more, despite being a clear serial killer.
@@meredithdurfy2337 I do, obviously he's an awful human being, but I like the way we've seen his growth and how he justifies his behavior. Its made me really want him to win in the end. Same with Walter White.
It’s what I love about the character and love how Hartnett portrays him. We know he’s the serial killer already. We get to track his mental gymnastics as he tries to get out of the (preposterous!) trap. We like his cleverness. We have affection for him and his doting daddy-ness. Me too! I loved it too! In fact, apart from Trap there are only three M Night movies that I don't like (or own) on home video. He's a unique film maker, and a great auteur. Well done again M Night. It's not your best movie, but it's still pretty damn good!
based PFP comrade
Comrade Patrick, I agree with your opinion)
the ending just kind of leaves me saying… aren’t they just going to recuff him once they open the back of the van? like what now i know he’s good at one on one combat but they’re presumably taking him to the police station where there will be more cops and the fbi from earlier, what’s his next move?
Low key one of the better thrillers I've seen.
This was better than maxxxine but not as good as pearl)
5:35 men appreciation moment
I went to see alien romulus but then plot twist i snuck in to see Trap!! I am now m nights cousin! 😅😅
We enjoyed it as a fun thriller
Trap was a good time for me....
finally a genuine review for this movie! i just dont understand all the hate for it, it was so much fun and the theater i was watching it in loved it. i saw a review that was criticizing how convenient everything was for cooper? that's classic main character! if all stories didnt have constant conveniences for the protagonist, how would they move along?
If at any point there was a time to support an original movie, this one is it. So far it seems Trap won't do that well in the box office, and people are always saying to go support original films. Go watch this one! It's a solid, fun thriller with a great central performance. It's a great time.
I loved this movie as well. It's goofy and kinda stupid but I loved how enjoyable this movie was.
wonder why all the hate! Looks awesome

But you are very cute 😅

@aly5066 girl, you are fine. I can take you out anytime 😏
Don't know if you'll end up reading this but Nick, keep going because you're one of my favorite youtuber and your energy feels so unique and authentic. We love you Nick!
I had so much fun watching this movie lol. I was actually engaged the entire time and the soundtrack slappppss. Didn't know who Saleka was before watching this movie but i definitely added her songs to my playlist afterwards lol.
Josh Hartnett's performance is the definite highlight of this film. The protagonist is so charming, and has a sweet relationship with his daughter, that it's easy to root for him, despite him being the clear baddie. It gives me "You" vibes, with Penn Badgley.
You rooted for the protagonist in You?
And when the reveal comes he is flat out menacing. Nicely played, Josh!
I saw Trap a couple days ago, and I had a good time! The second half of the movie is not as good as the first, but overall I thought it was worth seeing
