Kept messing up throughout the song
That first note Papa Het lets rip on the very beginning of the final solo is magical ❤❤❤❤✨️✨️✨️💥💥💥💣💣💣
He lets it ride for like an extra second or 2 longer than normal and it's so sweet. Seriously go back and listen it's perfect.

I’ve always wondered why Kirk plays the intro live. It’s James’s song, he should play it. I think one of two things is going to happen someday: either the last show ever, or the last series of shows, James is going to play the intro himself. He has to. It’s his signature piece.
i always thought it sort of balances out with james doing the main solo
you might also wonder why james sings on the songs that are written by kirk or lars

That's is a legend right there. He wasn't in it so he reset because he knows he owes it to himself to give his all. Kirk is a bad man, no ego just choons.
James should just play the beginning. He wrote it. For whatever reason, that beginning gives Kirk fits. He messes it up a lot.

James has said that he likes to leave all the difficult parts like solos and stuff to kirk since kirk is technically better at those

Wow I was at the Boston Calling show 5/29/22 when he messed up the intro to Nothing Else Matters. Happened again.
Yep I was at both Boston calling and this show. So the last 2 times I've seen metallica i got to see kirk muddled his way thru the into of nothing else matters 4 times lol

This is live, clearly. No backing tracks and probably no click track, etc. because of how quickly they restarted the song. Mistake yes, but this is how live is done!
This intro should be difficult if no one wants to play it live😅james do your best and do it yourself...this song is yours and we love it❤
This is going to sound crazy in the sense it technically shouldn't matter, but I think Kirk getting and playing the "Greeny" Les Paul (which he allegedly spent a high six figures on for that one) is part of the issue. Call it a Devil's Bargain or just plain superstition, but from what I've seen, he seems to trip up when using that one more than any other I've seen recently.
The biggest problem with the intro isn't that he messed up, its that his guitar is out of tune! No fault of his

What was wrong w Kirk in this show? I have heard several songs that he messed up. James even looked at him like "What are you doing" in One at the end during the harmony part. Never seen him play this bad at one show. I'm sure it was just a bad night because most of the time he is good with the solos.
I don’t know man you need to look thru the live performances over the years. After about 2013 he falls off a cliff. He has carpal tunnel or arthritis in his hand or something of that nature which I’m sure limits his playing.

I know its no big deal that he made an error but it is odd how much Kirk struggles with the intro of this song these days. He routinely doesnt play this specific part well. He even struggles on the second go round here.
