You didn't mention the Murchison letter incident, when a letter from the British ambassador leaked where he said that Cleveland would be a better President from the British perspective. This led to many Irish Americans switching their support to Harrison, and may have cost Cleveland the swing state of New York, where many Irish Americans lived, and as a result the entire election.

Critical analysis: The economy was NOT doing well due to reduction of tariffs - this lead to his eventually defeat and the desire for restoration of tariff rates which helped protect high paying jobs in industry which were being hurt by low paying 'pauper' labor in Europe. Again EC comes through albeit slightly. PV would allow for a South dominated by whites in exclusion of freed black who were being suppressed at the time from voting due to their large margins to win elections. EC vote requires winning a northern State or two.
To be fair, Cleveland (or any Democrat of the era) would have lost both the popular vote and electoral college heavily if not for the mass suppression of black votes in the South.
If there are multiple third parties, why are they all called third parties? Shouldn't another one be called a fourth party? And the next fifth party? etc. Just wondering lol
I promised, I wouldn't comment on this Election until after this year's Election. Considering the bad reputation of both, I think Grover cleveland was the least bad of the two candidates.

The key difference is that Cleveland could win the popular vote three times, but lost out the second time due to the electoral college. You could say with a lot more confidence before his third run that he has a good chance at winning. That’s not me passing judgment on any particular individual or the electoral college, but a lot of people make this comparison as a point in Trump’s favor in 2024 when the Devil really is in the details in this case.
I love how he talks shit about the electoral college, but he’s from Kansas. If we didn’t have an electoral college, we would be the United States of California or New York. The “flyover” states wouldn’t have any say in the outcome of the election. The founding fathers put it in there for a reason.
