I'm getting really excited for you Jack and AJ! Because we are getting closer to the fair and just getting rid of the plant with the aphids will get the majority of them out. Ladybugs would just have a FEAST on all those aphids! You boys should build a ladybug trap and have AJ catch some and then release them back into your pumpkin/watermelon patch. I bet AJ would have fun doing that! Ladybugs love aphids! Holy cow!! Goliath is huge!!!!!!! And such a pretty orange too!!! You've got to break your own record. I know you can do this!!

It must be the year. Our watermelon and cantaloupe aren't doing good. Squish bugs, blister bugs, so far they haven't gotten my pumpkins. But there not in the same place as he watermelon and cantaloupe. I feel the bugs attacked earlier this year. Maybe because of the weather? What do you fertilize with? I'm in Missouri

Are you having trouble with aphids because you have grown melons in the same place for several years? Maybe next year you need to put the garden somewhere else? (I am no expert)

Watermelons need handles! What about a net made out of strong rope? You could roll it into the net and drag it.About the aphids-isn't there any organic spray you could aim under the leaves? They must love heat. They were covering some of my big perennial flowers, too. I had fun smashing them between the leaves! There never seems to be enough ladybugs to make a dent in their numbers.
