When I first heard this story, one moment stuck out as the point the family should have really done something was when he went to his moms to drink vegetables oil. She shouldn't have just dropped him off at the restaurant again. She should have called the father and not let him out of their sight until they get him in a facility. That just didn't make sense to me.

they should have gotten him help sooner. But also this. Not only him straight up drinking oil from the bottle is sign something is wrong mentally, it can also be dangerous. less than a cup of vegetable oil will cause horrifying pain and damage, your body can't digest or metabolize so much oil, some of it will go straight through to your intestines and cause horrible cramping, pain and explosive diarrhea, start vomiting and have a burning sensation in your chest cause by a reflux of stomach acid from your body trying to digest the oil, your liver and gall bladder could be severely damaged trying to metabolize so much lipids. The vomiting and diarrhea combined result in severe dehydration, that can cause brain damage, high pressure from blood thickening or even death from the dehydration itself. The family was just uber irresponsible and fail him *AND* their community hard.

I feel like he probably had mental issues for longer than anyone realized and it only got really bad after he started working himself quite hard, doing drugs and generally feeling like he's alone
Not to say drugs are the cause but I feel like they are one of the many things that contributed to his poor mental health in the end, and with the parents only telling about how great he was and his success, that's probably all they cared about

The people around him really failed - I think 911 should have been called before they ever made it to the restaurant when the guy was trying to walk into traffic. But even after that point, there were too many missed opportunities for his family to intervene and get him help. Wtf was the mom thinking when she just dropped him back off at the restaurant after catching him drinking oil? The rest of his family is just sitting there in the restaurant watching him come and go and no one bothers to help him. So frustrating

Dont forget the fact that they didnt do anything when he said that there was demons and he was protecting them from it. And their response was to lock doors so that he couldnt get in and they could sleep at night is just unbelievable. Any sane parent would have taken the boy to a psychiatrist asap. Very poor parenting.

  • @tiredandcranky

Forget the restaurant. All of his family should have acted when he was guarding the house from demons. Or any action before that. The entire family allowed this to happen.

It sounds like he had schizophrenia, which usually develops at the age Austin was at the time, and it was exasperated by drug use. His parents had the money to get him excellent mental healthcare but they choose to ignore the problem. If I started roaming the house at night, saying I was protecting the house from demons, my parents would've immediately had me hospitalized and evaluated.

  • @silvsevie
    @silvsevie 2 роки тому +35

I followed this case. He was really in a frat, and he was desperate to be liked by the guys, that is why he fell so insecure, that was why he was writing in his diary, because the guys at the frat were not connecting with him unlike the friends he did have back home. He was probably taking the drugs to fit in, to be the "cool" guy. and it messed him up to the point that he was seeing demons. He told his family he was "guarding them from demons" and not sleeping at night to keep guard, at that point they should have gotten him help, not just locked their bedroom doors at night. smh.

What boggles my mind about this story is that his family just did so little when the early signs of his madness were presenting themselves. Like, he just tried to walk out into traffic, but you're gonna continue with your dinner plans like nothing happened? And then not be worried about his being gone for 30 mins despite the fact he effectively tried to kill himself in front of you. They should not have even let him leave the table on his own.

No one will likely stop to read this... but, man... I’m a huge introvert... I was diagnosed with adhd at a young age... which eventually led to anxiety and depression. I graduated with class of 2021, and I decided to do online college classes (currently, I am a freshman) because I’m scared to drive. I have my license, and I have a car, but I’m still scared of driving. I stay in my room 24/7-and I’ve never had many friends (I always stayed to myself in middle school and high school). I was often bullied, but I never told anyone or my parents about it. I have a few friends (I never meet up with them, though) and supportive parents. I still feel alone. I stay in my head all the time, sometimes, I have suicidal thoughts and I overthink every little thing. I really hope I don’t become crazy like Austin. I’d never hurt anyone...but mental health is no joke, you never know what will happen when you aren’t in the right frame of mind.

This is one of those cases where im just like so confused by the family from start finish. Like the whole acting up at night thing was already concerning. The friend seemed to have done more than they did by trying to make sure they're actually okay after being weird and actually getting up to look for them. They definitely were used to his moments based on the way his sister managed him at times but he's not her responsibility. Truly sad and disheartening in any case

According to the report, it was especially like that around the 12th or 15th
He went to that friend on the 15th (from 2nd/3rd grade, when was I born) He, Sam*, and Haley met up with 5 frat brothers at the beach
He was feeling "distant" in his head so he walked away from them.
      He was feeling godlike...
But around this week he was going between feeling invincible and super vulnerable I.think
Like.being a protector for all but also feeling fearful and in danger
Enough to go to Keri(? Not-mom or mom's) room at 2-3am asking to sleep in their room, anxious with his chest feeling tight

I'm from Scotland and these Florida resident stories concern me. I mean everywhere has crazy people, but in the US it seems to be concentrated in Florida.
They even have a thing on facebook where you enter your birth date, month then add Florida on the end and you have to post the link of the crazy story that happened that day.
There's something very weird going on in Florida. They are either being experimented on, there is something environmentally affecting certain people down there, or they have a portal to hell. 🤷‍♀️

    • @baydiac
      @baydiac 2 роки тому +1

Actually, the whole US is crazy!
All 49 other states have privacy protection laws for certain crimes to protect the accused before trials take place etc., so newspapers and journalists don't report on bizarre crimes/events the same way.
In Florida, there's no such protection. So if a guy wrestles an alligator with barbed wire to save his pet dog while barefoot and knee deep in meth, you can bet it'll be on the internet ASAP. Usually with the headline "Florida man [does something insane]".
Considering who americans elected in 2016, there must be something in the water over here. We're crazy and not in the fun/good way.

There are very particular ways to talk to and deal with people who are spiraling into insanity; and unfortunately you have to be borderline consciously insane yourself to understand or know those ways. Otherwise, your small little actions, or things you say that seem like no big deal to you, will antagonize the growing insanity within the subconscious mind of the person.
And much like other aspects of a persons mind or sense of self, you need to accept the subconscious you; rejecting it will lead to a mental break, and generally violence towards oneself or others.
In this case, his subconscious was likely holding onto the circumstances of his parents divorce. Like perhaps he thought it was his fault, or that if he didn't do his best to fit in, people would distance themselves from him, like his parents did through divorce.
That desire for friends and to fit in, drove him to give in to peer pressure and begin using drugs. It also prevented him from going clean, as doing so meant he'd lose his friends.
During summer when he returned home, he probably didn't have access to all the drugs he was taking, and he also away from his friends who he had made through said drug use. This led to anxiety coupled with withdrawal effects, that caused his paranoia and hallucinations of demons. But he was definitely still taking something that helped him focus, or made him fearless as otherwise he'd have coward in the garage instead of patrolling the house.
When his family began locking their doors, his subconscious picking up on their distrust of him, even if he consciously didn't; and that sense of distrust would have began nagging at him, making him feel like his own family were betraying him, that they couldn't be trusted. Consciously though, the criticisms of his insanity were bothering him and he was beginning to reject the concept that he was insane; which really showed itself when he threatened to kill his "friends" at the beach if they called him crazy.
Unfortunately, rejecting the mounting paranoia and mistrust of his sub consciousness and it's effect on his active consciousness, trigger his psychotic break. Causing him to quickly begin slipping into complete insanity as the sub consciousness and consciousness begin fighting over which is reality. In the end his paranoid sub conscious won, and he became a monster.

Way more in the report, like reckless driving with Haley and Sam
Around Aug 14 he was spending more money, wanting to pay for everyone, that fitbit was $300,
He bought a switchblade to protect himself against evil, was doing the dog mentality
He used weed to sleep before like Aug 11-12 but after that he was back on his "I have a gift and I'm going to help people, protect people, give them hope, etc"
He got serious about this same philosophy Aug 4-7 where some interviewed noticed he was more reserved n serious
      Oh.
The sunglasses were to protect him from evil.
He came back with his cap backwards because he thought it propelled him a little,
Basically what im reading shows a lot of mania with psycho factors (Resnick said his impression was Bipolar I, most recent episode manic, with Psychotic features)
Haley didn't realize that he was genuinely out of touch with reality until that same span of days like Aug 14 or 15th
TL;DR Mr. Harrouff described feeling that he was a "protector" of other people and at other times, he felt vulnerable and fearful. He shifted back and forth between feeling invincible on the one hand and fearful and vulnerable on the other".
      --
Not something that the others would've known, but he walked out into traffic on a previous occasion believing nothing can hurt him. And cars went around him so he believed he was invincible.
      --
Because he kinda stopped sleeping around that week (at least) his father was trying to give him Valium or Xanax at points, which he rejected. There was a time his father took his keys after one of those times because he didn't want him to drive, but Austin hopped on the hood then roof, so he gave him the keys and drove behind him to the jewelry store.
He tried to take him on a nature walk to distract him a little. And a gun show the day(?) before that. Because Florida.
Seems like he tried more social distractions and offering a sleep aid (Austin used weed to sleep for a while but that week he was back off). And at least two people were like "will you see a counselor" and he agreed. This was probs too close to...y'know
      Sorry im rambling

However. The poor police officer was probably shell shocked from witnessing live cannibalism, because NOTHING on the force can prepare you for that, so I don't blame the guy one bit for being out of it and having a slower reaction time.
He probably needed therapy. And I'm just picturing the first responding officer beside him unable to do anything but shakingly pointing her gun at Austin's head, desperate for a clear shot.
-'cause y'all know if it wasn't a rich florida neighborhood with a white perpetrator Austin wouldn't have survived the police encounter. political opinions aside he'd be swiss cheese in the split second of being first kicked off of John-

Correction(?) Instead of "What is wrong with you" apparently it was "What the hell do you think you're doing leaving [for again//everyone at dinner] "
The first half being Austin's dad and the other being Keri

    • @jasmine9581
      @jasmine9581 Рік тому +1

August 11 and 12 seems like he's verbally improving back to that "I wanna help people, I quit everything and I realized I feel better" etc
Austin knocked on his mom's door, sweaty...picked up a bottle like he was about to drink it. She took it
He got some mozzarella and add a lil oil and took some bites before she drove him back. (For your question about driving him to the hospital then iirc-- on the phone his dad said to bring him back)
Kinda first weeks of August he was more serious and quiet than usual
Before that more fearful n anxious and more interested in the dog
He got a knife on like Aug 15 after a gun show. For protection. Like checking turtle shells on the beach for evil
So like Aug 8-13 he was mostly happier and on that delusion of "im following my purpose to give people life/hope, I'm evolving not going crazy I think- more worthy to help others with the pain they have"
      That was a half rephrase

Marked change from a Patient Coordinator at a dental office foe the same August 4-7 span where he appeared more withdrawn

And more affectionate on the... Aug 13-14
The night of the 14-15 he was anxious, chest was tight- laid on the floor and cuddled the dog
August 13 another restaurant visit, dad wanted him to drink alcohol so he'd be less withdrawn, get his old Austi Frosti back, but Austin was in his self improvement grindset and etc etc Keri and Austin's dad argued and he wouldn't let Austin take her so Austin was hurt n left to teach him a lesson and tried to get a family to drive him home
      --
Somewhere in the same span (around p 17) they were trying to get him to take Xanax/Valium to with that lack of sleep which he rejected; before that he was starting to drive recklessly, "Sam" did catch up to Austin leaving the restaurant the last time apparently, Aug 14 he was spending more money
Oh Sam is the 2nd/3rd grade friend.
Aug 7 same seriousness and obsession with positivity and philosophical ideas, and that he might kill himself,,
Overall... he wasn't really interested in the dog until July/August, he wasn't previously a reader but reach a bunch of books in August, chatting with vendors which was also new...
Aug 15 he showed up overdressed to Sam (probably the _when was I born_ , the inside of his car door reminding him not to be too trusting. When they hung out, Austin headed directly towards another car and laughed about it.

Okay, but all the drugs the kid experimented with that summer were relayed to police and likely to friends. He’d been deteriorating mentally all summer, so unless he was secretly taking a synthetic drug that whole time and literally *nobody* ever knew about it, and he was somehow cognizant enough to keep that info from the police despite being totally insane, I doubt very seriously it was just a drug. Psychotic breaks happen without the aid of messed up synthetic drugs, you know. The list of drugs he’s confirmed to have taken, combined with the bodybuilding, combined with genetic predisposition is all plenty enough to create mental tears and lead someone to a psychotic break of sorts.
