Great story telling. I spent many years in central Texas82-2004. Mostly Austin and Bastrop. The best time of my life.
You wouldn't like it now. It was even better prior to '82...
@@eileenvernor832 that's what I've heard too. Armadillo world headquarters and others. Much less populated.
@@eileenvernor832 I think 2010 was the last time I was there, what a mess, lots of traffic. It took an hour to make what used to be a 15 minute drive.
Love the stories
Never have I heard of such bravery . Incredible.!!!
Been to Barton springs, great place plus a great story to go along with it.

Cool story !
Ive worked in many of his survey abstracts next to barton creek
Thank you for this lecture .
Is Barton Spring near Austin that Same clear Stream in the bottom of the canyon where Sculpture Falls is. It's really neat to have walked the same ground as these events took place on. Each year I go to Tombstone to see the renacemtion of the gunfight at the PK
OK Coral damn cell phones lol! Cary on Tucson.
Wow, talk about thinking on your feet, what happened to his son, did he return ok?
I don't know. Haven't found any info on the fate of his son.
@@unworthyhistory then I'll just assume he did in keeping with the rest of this positive story.
Great channel, really enjoy the gritty stories of the old American wild west days.
Unfortunate about his young son , killed and scalped no doubt !
The deer dogs chasing the deer was a face in palm moment. But I am sure that deer saved those dogs life. All in all pretty good story! I really do enjoy listening. I love Texas. I love history. But moreover, I love Texas History.
I have used that trick while on security patrol at work. My big weapon? Two way radio. If they think backup is coming they scatter. And I will even trail them to make them think it is really happening. I do stay in excellent shape though at 66.
What happened to the son?
Yeah have you heard of Sculpture Falls in Austin.
These stories are applicable in real life lol!
Lol, they sure are!
And, now they want to change the name of Barton Spring. Probably to Geo. Floyd Springs.
Imagine seeing barton springs before we poluted it and F'd it all up.
What happened to Barton’s son?
No idea.
Quick wit, something you can't put in a saddlebag. Comes with age.
Lol your right about that Jack
What the hell happened to his missing son?
No idea.
Another reason why the Comanches we're stomped out.
What was the other reason? Because of the greedy foreigners who showed up to take their hunting lands, and wipe them off the face of the earth?? Your arrogant view of the Comanche is the same mindset as the invaders at the time---
These savages must be subdued, so we can take their land to mine for gold, silver, bring cattle in, etc so we can get rich attitude--- The Comanche were only trying to protect their land and culture, just like any other people in the world--
Wish the Comanche would have stomped out the invading white settlers m
Unlike most Indian tribes, the Comanches could not be lived with, they were the most primitive of all the Indian tribes, and the roughest.
The most primitive? Where did you come up with that? While the Comanche remained hunter/gatherers, and didn't take up farming, they were the most advanced with their horse riding skills--
They could outride any tin horn cowboy that showed up in Texas--- They also were adept utilizing the Parthian shot--
Riding forward bareback on a pinto or mustang while pivoting their body backwards and shooting arrows with accuracy!!!!
Two words. Quanah Parker....
@@thomasfoss9963 Primitive doesn't mean that they weren't skilled at attacking other people; Mexicans, Whites, and other Indians. They treated their women as bad as other tribes treated their enemies. It is all there in the history of the Comanches.
@@thomaswayneward That was my point!!! They weren't as primitive as people think--- I pointed out that they were a hunter gatherer/ warring tribe--- They became the best horse riders after being introduced to horses by the Spanish in the 1500s-- and they àhad already fought off the Spanish invaders for 300 years, took on the Apaches, and other tribes--- So, when the white Anglo Europeans showed up to take their lands and commit complete genocide against them--- They defended themselves--- just like you would if someone was trying to wipe you off the face of the planet---- Many stories of atrocities on both sides-- But, between broken treaty's, the killing of their main food sources, the bison, and the Texas Rangers putting a bounty on them with their shoot to kill policy, the Comanches way of life was destined to end--- And people call THEM savages---
@@thomasfoss9963 LOL
You're a weird storyteller
