- Hi we are Hans and Kate, 3 years ago we sold our house and moved into our van. But after 2 years we wanted a place for ourselves. We bought an off-grid homestead in central Portugal and we have been renovating it over the past year. In Part 2 of the two part video series, we build a hottub, a swimming pool and a garden. I recommend adding a step into the pool or something... So that if the dog falls into it he can get out 😥

Sounds like a good idea. They have to forget just once…. Also would be nice to see them loving on their dog, at least now and then. They seem to ignore him, at least in the two videos I watched.

You need to know that runing the wayer tank from cement to a painted job is now considered by your local camara municipal as a swimming pool, so local municipal tax will increase on the property.
Let us hope the local town officials see this video along with the irresposible behaviour of Instagram influences having open bonfires to take pos3d photos in a bathtub😮😮

No. Venomous snakes do not exist here in Portugal. I'm portuguese and I've never seen a snake here. I know they exist in the rural area but they're very rare.

Nice place, but consider that the sand in the bottom of your wells is a good filter for keeping the nasties out of your water.
Thanks Jim, you are absolutely right that sand functions as a filter and luckily sandy soil surrounds the well. But we had the problem of decaying leaves in the water which caused a smell and discouloring. Do you know another way to fix that for our second well?
@@jumpheadfirst8094 Didn't know about the rotting leaves and discoloration. It looks like you did the right thing to give it a good cleaning! BTW, it looks like you're using a hand pump to get water. Wonderfully quaint, but consider setting up a 12VDC RV water pump to draw water from your wells. If so, dig a hole next to the well in which to house your water pump (I put mine inside a large plastic resealable container). Connect pump to sealed 100aH lithium battery, and connect the battery to a solar charge controller (capable of charging Lithium batteries). Finally, a 200-300 watt solar array should do the job. Run pump intake line down 15-20 feet into well. Fresh water on demand!

How are you Planing to keep the Pool Clean?
Great question Shirley, we don't use chemicals because we use the water for our plants. We're experimenting with keeping it covered for the sun. And we have put copper bottles in the water because copper is said to disrupt the growth of micro-organisms. Do you know more tips and tricks?

Luckily they are harmless, we have a big one in the chicken coop that keeps mice away from the chicken feed
