- A year transforming a small farm in Portugal; building beds, planting trees, harvesting and preserving fresh produce, and creating a habitat for wildlife.
Three years ago, we fell in love with an overgrown piece of land and an old stone ruin in Portugal.
All that we've done in the last year to create an abundant garden.
We've achieved much more than we imagined.

Ah, the magic of permaculture and the people who practice the principles! Its happening. Bravo! You and Dan have inspired me here in northern California and as we pack up our 27 year life in a little village into a shipping container, preparing to move in mid October to a little town in the Algarve, I'll take time to unwind near the sea, take in the culture, feel retirement and learn to converse before the primal call of the garden and mother earth call me back to the garden. I'm loving your vision, passion, great energy, growth and the transformation you've created. Wowza!

I ate 2 Natas tarts with my tea while watching your video in your honour! So lovely to have a catch up and see how far you have developed the land. I can't believe you even grow black eyed peas, your garden has everything! My favourite way to eat those is the Cyprus way of boiling, then add a dressing of olive oil, salt and lemon juice. You can also add pieces of squash in with the beans. Especially lovely to eat in the Summer with spring onions on the side and crusty bread. Have a good week! 🥰👍

This video is much appreciated by me. It's one thing to grow stuff, using the local climate, but it's another thing to have so much produce, and to preserve the excess for winter use. It's that last bit I have no skills in. But your composting and soil work is exemplary.
What a joy this garden will be, once you finally move in to the renovated house, continuing to change and develop - even when your home is complete .

Just look at what the two of you have created! Such a special garden, the varity of plants blows my mind. The design of the gardens highlights the diverse topography. Your consideration of the watershed in the different gardens is something I think I would have struggled with (when I was younger). 3 years seem to have flown by, It was lovely to have a recap of the progress, Thank you. I am sure that you cannot wait to have the house finished so you can have an easier time preserving the fruits of your labour. Although I must say you have been doing a cracking job of it by the looks of things. 🙋♀

I'm going to have to remember to come rewatch this is Spring. It has gotten me excited for planting things, but we just started Fall here and I'm going to be harvesting right away!
Fall here too and now we’re back to harvesting squash and sunflowers 🌻
@@NearbyVeggies It's potatoes and sweet potatoes for me! Both came from spuds I didn't eat fast enough and they started sprouting. The sweet potatoes are actually second season from the original!

It was lovely watching and remembering little bits of previous episodes. Whatever happened to your little bath pond? It won't be long now and you will be able to wake up and go to sleep right beside your beautiful garden. The bath pond was only a temporary holding space for the wildlife until we cleaned the well and waited for it to refill. We have bigger plans for that area this year. 😉
