Feral Cats and Fender Strats in the Death Metal Capital: Noisey Shreds with Obituary
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 бер 2017
- Death Metal legends Obituary call Tampa, Florida home. What Norway is to black metal and the Bay Area is to thrash, Tampa is indisputably to the legacy of death metal. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, bands like Deicide, Morbid Angel, and Obituary came together in the city to create and refine a genre that is still having an impact on extreme and not so extreme metal today.
Noisey's Kim Kelly traveled to Tampa to catch the band at an intimate hometown show. She spent some time getting to know the Tardy brothers… and a bunch of feral cats.

my son is at the 7:37 mark, it was the last show he ever went to... rest in peace Pat.
We are sorry for your loss, Stephan. You will always have this memory of him jamming out and loving life. I hope it brings you some comfort.
I hope that this thing, to see your baby in this video, is heartwarming for you. My big embrace to you and to all of your family. ❤️
P. S. Thank you for open your heart like this.
John looks so different without his face being half obscured by hair
For veterans of death metal,
it's savagely cool they rescued cats from death.
In an ass kicker of a band and protects cats in his spare time. Metal folks are the greatest people in the world 🤘🏻
agree
John has the best death metal vocals. No one sounds like him.
Wow, that drummer is a great guy.
he really is
donald tardy is THE man
Having so much heart for feral cats, while simultaneously playing in an extreme metal band, is mind blowing.
It's funny how when Noisey interviews metal bands they send a metal fan, but when they interview rappers they send some nerdy dude that over enunciate words like "choppa" and explain that the word is slang for a fully automatic gun.
lmao
Want to know the real reason for that? They know that their Atlanta episode and other hip hop centric productions will have a MASSIVELY broader audience than a video like this. And what will the majority of that broad audience identify with? A "nerdy", out-of-his-element, youngish white guy. So it's actually what makes the most sense to get the most views.
Also, trap music (although its been around for over a decade) is viewed as something new and hot by media outlets. So it's like the 80s and 90s where documentaries about this crazy, loud, obscene, blatant and flagrant genre called "HEAVY METAL" were produced.
On the other hand, with this Shreds series, the people watching these videos will most likely be metalheads already, and will identify with this "metal" chick.
Thomas Morton is awesome. You should watch the piece he did called heroin holiday.
I like Thomas Morton. Zach Goldbaum, not so much.
Crammy James she does have an eyebrow piercing after all....
the Cause of Death album always reminds me of high school, but I never thought John Tardy would end up looking like a high school football coach
yup its good to feel normal ,4 me least.
John Tony looks like John tardy don't look like no damn football coachyou look exactly the way he should look the frontman for obituary!!!
Deicide, Morbid Angel, and Obituary AND DEATH...
ignorant lady
Fuck you all, BRUTALITY people
Death is technically from Orlando
Deicide fucking sucks, my god..
@@BlixTheGoblin I hate Deicide! They are garbage and their lyrics are trash!
Love Obituary and love cats.
GREAT band! Love that he helps cats!!
Deicide and obituary are my two favourite death metal bands to this day.
Death and massacre or also utterly amazing.
I fucking love this band so much. They've been with me for most of my metal life, my bridge from Slayer into extreme metal and still my top live group (together with Vader). Long live the Obies!
Legends I truly love them! Since the first time back around 1989. One of the best live bands ever!
this is Merica! Talking bout 🇺🇸 and cats... wasn't expecting that, but it felt good to hear him say it.
These guys consistently release bad ass albums.
"Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return" sounds like a song title from a Cannibal Corpse B-sides record.
this series is so fucking awesome
This is the first time I listen to JohnTardy's "normal" voice
Man what a nice guy! I love Obituary even more now
The woman that's interviewing is the female Austin dickey
Oh shit
Whoever that is
She seems to know more about metal than him.
awesome little documentary. good job !!
Seen them at the brass mug this past sunday, it was 🔥. I was also lucky enough to get a swamp tour tee!!!
Everyone should go to at least one death metal show in their life. Go see Obituary, Suffocation or Cannibal Corpse. You can thank me later.
Hard to do if they don’t tour your country
Does gojira count?
@@naturemaster8810 no, they're great don't get me wrong but no. Go see a classic straight death metal band man!
CHOPPED IN HAURRRRRR!
Ahah the ending vocals
üchoppedinhuaagghhhh
Obituary rules Grretings from a Huge fan in Norway
Cool, but, entirely too short.
This was a very good interview & original compared to some of the interviews today with the same old questions etc I'm a big Obituary fan & i first seen them in London,Ontario,Canada at "The Embassy" in 1997 on their "Back From The Dead" tour & i still remember that gig like it was yesterday & after the show the whole band came out and chatted with all the fans and signed merch for us all until every last person got an autograph or picture, they are such a down to earth band in every sense of the word and fun to be around. I remember having a Budweiser beer with Trevor Peres and it was like we were long time friends, he was so dam cool and we even chatted about hockey lol and he's a tampa bay lightning fan as so is John & Donald Tardy so we jabbed at each other about our hockey teams with mine being the Toronto Maple Leafs & after all these years later up to present day Trevor Peres & the Tardy Brothers got the last laugh because they have won 3 Stanley Cups since then lol & Toronto a big fat ......."0" LOL ugh 😞 Toronto sits second all time for Stanley Cups with 13 & the Montreal Canadiens first with 24 but Toronto hasn't won a Stanley Cup since 1967 which was the last year for the original six era and expansion the following year with 6 new teams. Anyways enough about hockey lol, and i really enjoyed this awesome interview and it was very well done. Check out the metal website i write for which is www.themetalpit.org - Cheers From Canada -
Great interview and the fact that donald rescue and helps cats is amazing 🎉
This band means a lot to me.
Their new album is gonna slay
Man that feral cat thing is genius!
@Joseph Johnsen Isn't the point of the program to control the population of feral cats? That's at around 6:20 if you want to check it out :/
Obituary rules! I know there may be bands more brutal than them, but they make me happy ! Saw them the 5th time in Greensboro NC. FUCKING AWESOME!!! 🤘
my new fav series
nice guys, i have always love their music
that was just so cool to see John and Donald together having a chat with a woman interview at was just so awesome and see also concert footage and people going nuts outside waiting to see them play hellyeah obituary fucking rules
I’ve seen them twice here in Seattle and will see them again in December 2022 with Amon Amarth!!
Hell ya, seen them in Seattle 2 Times in 90s
Awesome. They must have used a hell of a lens to make the brass mug look that big. Haha. Love the brass mug. Love Obituary. Broke my nose in the first 5 seconds of their show with Kreator what seems a lifetime ago in the Bristol Beerkeller. And the singer was replaced by a roadie because his voice blew.
"We are who we are and the music speaks for itself". You're damn right it does.
The Exodus of death metal....this guys never were as "popular" as the other death metal classics ( morbid, death, cannibal and dicide) but they have never stopped releasing real good death metal albums
Legends of death metal
love these guys
very cool video 🤘🏼
Went to the brass mug and seen the remnants of nasty savage aka gardy Lou! That's my experience
These guys are pretty damn cool! Cat people, too! Awesome!
Best Death Metal Band still around.Obituary Rules.
Johnny Vegas there is a lot of great death metal bands still around from that era.
Im a cat lover to!!!!
Most metalheads I know are honestly lol
Cats and metal are the best
Even Fenriz is a cat lover.
King Diamond has saved cats as well
Very different crowed there lol, much different here in Los Angeles area and California and such……………still hard metal heads, but the parking lot crowed here seemed like they had been drunk for days already lol
Best death metal band ever
nice hp lovecraft album artwork!
Trevor is the man !!!!!
World Demise is fucking all time.
Obituary = Best band on the planet
Legendary
STILL THE BEST ♠
if it's too loud, you're too old!
humble down to earth t-shirt & shorts.
More death metal please
Obituary lives are insane
James Murphy! sweet
Yo what is the opening song? That riff is tight af
Obituary is True Death Metal at ist best!
Fuckin' Obituary \m/!!!
can't wait for an episode with WALLS OF JERICHO
Honduras representa
John tardy looks like Rick Dale from American Restoration
i would compare the opening riff of sentence day to revelations of doom by hellhammer
Donald is the best!!
So im.linving in Miami for a couple of months ... where metalheads hang out?
it's like the total opposite to here. You want winter issue combats on all but 2 months of a year. it's fucking freezing. I am wearing a winter issue hat right now, in doors.
1:17 refine sure, but create? oh I'm sorry who's Chuck?
Have YOU never heard of Possessed? Chuck always hailed them as the creators of death metal
♥
Song at 1:05 - 1:19?
You mention those Bands you must mention DEATH 1st period!
I think you mean Possessed
Death wasn't mentioned... 😔 Chuck was really important to Death Metal....
Oloff - Doing lt Stealthy
What ever happened to James Murphy ? That dude could shred !!!
He has now taken the role of a producer and engineer and occasionally does guest solos for different bands.
Atlanta next Friday
proved metalhead is cat lover.
Chuck schuldiner loved em too
😻
Celtic Frost anyone?
HELLHAMMER !!!
8:04 Song???????
Chopped in half...
im sad you dont know this legendary song, but now you know
Aaahhh Obituary and their long, abstract, instrumental jams with fucked up riffs and buzzy tone. I'll take that band all day long.

UMBRO
Go Donald!

DOING IT STEALTHY
She's cute
low standards lmao
tampa------fu@k yeah!!
I think the UK has better death metal bands but Florida still does okay!
We don’t have much other than Bolt Thrower, Memoriam, and Benediction
@@MarcusBlueWolf You've forgot two little bands called Carcass and Napalm Death?
Help allen west a forgotten metal god work again....not worry about stray f@#!% cats lol🤣🤣
Ooo look at the nasty death metal drummer looking after stray cats.
just like this segment and the slayer segment Noisey makes the fans look like complete buffoons! or maybe they just really are?
i know right, it's probably the locations.
