Was brought up on artillery wheels and split rings...never had an issue, not many tubeless back then. Even today I still like tube types all the youngens hate them...thing is try as u might to show and they still can't work it out...Those one piece rings r safe as houses.
Usually when tires blow, they blow out in the direction of the sidewall, not from the center towards the circumference. It doesn’t make much difference whether you air it up on the truck or leaning against something. If you are going to inflate one of these without a cage, I’d probably leave it flat on the floor. That way any shrapnel goes up and not straight out.
Shop I use to work at started refusing to work on the widow maker split ring wheels. The shop down the road invested in cages and they got all that shops work. Ill never forget hearing a split ring wheel come apart while airing it up inside a cage.
I got a question, might be dumb.. should i pull the valve core out before i even dismount the thing from the hub? Like can they blow for any reason while youre knocking the wedges off?
I have worked on a few 3 piece rims, they are dangerous if they are damaged, but as long as you pay attention that the rings are seated properly and are not deformed you should be ok. Use a tire cage or chains.
Is it legal to run a bias tubless 11.22,5 next to a 10r20? I pull containers. I've seen radials and tubes mixed. Made the rail shop fix them before I left. You outgate a bad setup. That's on the driver.
No, actual Widow Makers are split in the middle of the rim, Type RH-5° in this pic. 4.bp.blogspot.com/-fFNrC2yElJg/WRYGAnrijMI/AAAAAAAErK4/170aPA5dCIkOxtSMctyBMgMii4TIm3oywCLcB/s1600/tgtt.JPG

Clever! Air up the tube a little, mount on the axle and air it up the rest of the way... Your safe
That's how we do it in Cincinnati.

The reason why you inflate it partially is so that the tube doesn’t get caught or rip when you insert the wheel into the tire.

That ring flies off you are dead. We always used a tire cage.
Do you no longer make videos?
know anywhere to buy a set of 10.00-22 semi tires? a guy on youtube called twinstick garage is looking for a set for his project snowman kenworth
when doing these you have to check to see if the wheel and lock ring match. looks like a redco wheel.
Ralph Blackburn Redco are tough Redco has the number inside the rim and has a much wider bead flange. this one is an FL lock ring.
I had to do my first one of these the other day. man I hate them. I'll stick to tubeless whenever I can.
10.00-20 that's old school there. Must be an antique trailer!
These are chassis for containers still popular
No there pretty typical in the container industry
