  • Cooperation is at the heart of our society. Inventing the railway, giving birth to the Renaissance, and creating the Covid-19 vaccine all required people to combine efforts. But cooperation is so much more. It governs our education systems, healthcare, and food production. In this episode, Hannah meets the researchers working on cooperative AI, and hears about their work and influences from the famous American psychologist - and pigeon trainer - BF Skinner to the strategic board game Diplomacy.

How did I just come across this podcast now?! This is so clever and insightful and funny :) I am a computer science undergrad while working and traveling a lot (!) for work. It’s great to be reminded of “the bigger purpose” behind the “why exactly am I doing this to myself?” To hear more about the state of the art challenges and quests while really sensing excitement between the lines - this is awesome! Vielen Dank dafür Hanna :)

This is a really great podcast. Apart from the very attractive voice, sound, timbre and nuances in the speech, I loved the content too. Reminds me of how I have to coordinate in my small herd of horses when being on the road. All small things necessary to cooperate came in mind hearing the different topics. Well done! Loved it!

Very standard English not unusual when you live here, although not unattractive. There's some I like a lot better but you rarely hear them unless your in a specific area. Just poetry in motion. And there's a lot worse of course , that are very course.

Hope next one's tomorrow, listen when i got time, usually tired so doesn't always sink in at first listen but good to go over it and understand it all better, there's a lot to consider and I'm learning about other sciences. Physics which I've always studied can be quite straight forward in comparison to the logic involved in AI problems. Will AI be able to help solve the problems and help code it. ?

I think that AI should support human activity not try to replicate it. That is its real strength.

AI hmmm. I'm neither Artificial nor Intelligent. Yep I'm doomed once AI becomes self aware.

The most important problem for DeepMind should be how to fix the YT recommended algorithm to fit our times and not be a primitive crap.

“It would be quite handy to have an entity exist only to make you happy” followed by “Yeah, haha” is exactly the type of naivety that leads to a future AI inferring that happiness is relative and requires a great deal of suffering for the human brain to experience it. I (possibly naively) truly believe it’s an almost guaranteed outcome that humans will mess up trying to make an intelligence greater than themselves. It’s highly likely it will lead to some catastrophic scenario that does not bring us happiness (by accident or by choice). Ants rarely build humans that serve their personal desires. If they did, the odds would be against them in inconceivable ways including language barriers, the human’s desires, etc.

Communication and cooperation is definitely not needed to solve artificial general intelligence . This is a fantastic example of how overthinking a problem can easy send someone down the absolute wrong path... Basically half of academic research right now 😂
