  • Step inside DeepMind's laboratories and you'll find researchers studying DNA to understand the mysteries of life, seeking new ways to use nuclear energy, or putting AI to the test in mind-bending areas of maths. In this episode, Hannah meets Pushmeet Kohli, the head of science at DeepMind, to understand how AI is accelerating scientific progress. Listeners also join Hannah on a [virtual] safari in the Serengeti in East Africa to find out how researchers are using AI to conserve wildlife in one of the world’s most spectacular ecosystems.

    Hannah Fry is PERFECTION in applying the rules of PUBLIC SPEAKING 101: "10 points off for every pause with an uhh". As a speaker she is MESMERIZING, especially with her adorable English accent :-)

    Podcast is good, but if you enhance this with animations it will be much better. This content should be on top of youtube. People really dont appreciate science enough. Earth have people living in dark ages and science fiction at the same time in different places. The more science advance the more superiority some people get over others. Anyway great work Deepmind and all other people working in AI field and applications.

    Solving the root problem of the tree of knowledge - great metaphor an such a worthy endeavor. So impressed with the GraphCast Weather Forecast that DeepMind released Open Source!

    What does that triangle-like shape at the top right of a video represents?

      Nvm... found it, it's a 'Trefoil knot' if anyone wonders as well... I was wondering why you put it there, but then at the end when I was finishing to watch the video you've spoke about mathematics and 'knots'... and I'm like... 'right, I'm dumb xD'.

    Henrietta Lacks Hela cells don't get old because the tolomeres on the chromozones don't decay and so they are immortal, image if this can be controlled

    The subtitles get "knot theory" wrong at "not theory". too bad youtube removed the ability for other users to suggest corrections.

    But is math related to science?

    • @curious_haldar
      @curious_haldar 2 роки тому

      This can be debatable. Mathematics is the language which deals with spaces and quantifying things in nature. We use mathematics in other fields in order to understand / quantify things that go on over there.

      Honestly, it's not - at least not intrinsically. Mathematics is an extremely useful tool for science though.
