May have to wait until I retire to build that one, OMG😂. It Would be nice in this day and age to get slide moulded weapons, canopy masks and maybe the crew. Great advertisement to buy the Tamiya F-14!
Too complex, no air to ground ordnance, no crew. I’ll wait for Tamiya to get to the B model.
I thought Phil said it was cheap? £85 is what I can see everywhere..
In the UK yes, but it's 150+ Euros outside of the UK ;)
@@florymodels wow! Really.. I stand corrected... 👍
Nearly 200 dollars in the states
The best out there ❤
Thank you for your kind words :O)
The recent GWH 1/48 SU-27 was $100, this is $180. How is it 80% more expensive? And no slide molded weapons?? They have gone backwards.
I spoke to a F-14 maintainer last night. He gave me a lot of info on this and inaccuracies. I was told to stay away and stick to Tamiya. Tamiya had access to the real drawings from the Navy. GWH being Chinese had no such access
this set from GWH is made with mistakes ,you're right
100% no slide molded weapons like their other kits + this price point is ridiculous.
I’m a GWH fan…up to now anyway. This one seems way over the top with its 40 sprues. If the Tamiya didn’t exist, maybe I would be more excited about this kit. The Tamiya A and D are AWESOME and fun to build. The “B” is the “BOMBCAT”…this kit has NO bombs? Wassup with that? And the multi-piece missiles vs the slide molded in their MiG-29 and SU-27 kits.
No - the B isn't for "bombcat". All marks carried bombs A,B and D. The A was originally designed to allow for this - it just wasn't used until the end of it's career.
@@chrishicks1417 I did not mean “B” literally stood for BOMBCAT, nor that the A or D could not carry bombs. “BOMBCAT”, as I understand it, was a nickname that appeared when the A was upgraded to, among other things, allow the aircraft to be more capable in the ground attack role. Thus configured these “B” Tomcats in the bomb-dropping role unofficially earned the label “BOMBCATS”. The As primarily role before this was fleet defence. A-6s and the like back in the day were assigned the attack role, primarily.

The F-14 is already a complicated aircraft. No need to make it painful for the model builder. I think I will just stick with Tamiya and kibash an A&D to make a B. The build would still be nicer. PLUS. No bombs or lantirn pod???????????????? What is up with that?
Mah.. Non mi convince.. dopo Amk.. mi tengo stretto hasegawa!
So option for in-flight, and ready for launch, with no crew?
One of the grestest looking planes. Dont care what Matt says 😂
Nice kit but, to me, it’s kinda subpar for GWH. In comparison to their Flanker/Fulcrum series. No air to ground for the BOMBcat is a big disappointment too. I have the Tamiya A&D so, I’ll be taking a pass on this.
A typical useless way to make models. Gratuitously complicated: 9 parts for a sidewinder, 6 for a phoenix. Absurd. And in italy it costs twice the new tamiya give or take.
the price is an absolute audacity. the only thing this kit does better than tamiya are maybe the wheel bays, but that's it.
you can even get the 1/32 tamiya tomcat, plus aftermarket goods for that amount of money.
Great kit review as always. Just one thing is that it looks like the canopy frame goes over the glass, not the glass over the frame as you said in the video. At least that's what it looks like to me.
Fantastic review of GWH F-14B. My first choice building wise for a Tomcat kit is a Tamiya. You know it will fit like a glove.
IMO Tamiya = take brain out and shake the box. If I want detail and a build experience, Tamiya is last on my list. GWH takes the Tomcat to the next level.

Great review , where I differ to most is I like building inflight , which is where Tamiya win , they supply pilots and its an easy build . This kits too complicated but horses for courses.
some weird choices like the missiles not single moulded, lack of bombs for a Bombcat; the wings i understand because of the flaps and spoilers...and i do miss the Vulcan as it is on the Hasegawa...
Elliot hannaford you to day going 👍
The elephant in the room is the price.... almost 200 on this side of the pond. No ground ordnance, some weird engineering choice... Sorry... Ill stick with the Tamiya.
Is this a repop AMK F-14D with a B cockpit? Do you think?
Phil,do you have any idea how boomy you podcasts have become? You used to have one of the best sounding. Can I help?Just saying. Doc BC
The live stuff or the recorded shows?

My question is this...why do GWH Mig 29 kitd have slide molded wespons...how come they didnt include them in this kit?
Slide molding is very expensive (I worked in this industry for almost 20 years) and I assume that they need to make some compromise in this kit.
My question is this….Why did Phil forget to disable the comments for this video?😂
Totally agree :)
I will when the rivet counters turn up lol
I’m surprised with the multi-piece ordnance from GWH, given that my MiG-29 and SU-27 had slide molded missiles. 😢
Something seemingly ignored is that every F-14 ever released is a complex build there simply is no way around it. Combine that with the multiple options being demanded(remember the outcry over no flaps in the Tamiya F-14A) and high quality tooling this is the result. An exceptionally detailed Tomcat with an exceptional price.
Modellers seem to want everything, high detail, simple build, low price.
Sorry its 2023 you dont get all of those without the price.
The lack of slide molding on weapons screams budget limits to me trying to keep the price down.
Tamiya went light on detail and great on engineering but lets be realistic the Tamiya F-14 has non slide molded weapons, so does the F-4 and both are far less detailed than the GWH Tomcat.
To elevate the Tamiya ket to the GWH kits detail lever will cost significantly to a lever exceeding the GWH kit retail.
Im lucky enough to visit Japan and can buy Tamiya F-14’s for between $50USD and $65 yet looking at the GWH kit at $150 i still think its good value. If inwas paying $100US plus for a Tamiya kit id buy the GWH kit “if” i wanted to go all out on an F-14.
Large box, heavy weight means far in reased logistic costs hence another addon increasing the price.
Id love some bombs but i have plenty of Jdams to add if i want i more want the detail to do a super F-14 high detail build.
Nice review Phil agree with pretty much everything in it. The prices climbing for highly complex kits is something we all have to live with. You did well getting them for so cheap even in Japan they are £80!
Cool review well done.
