You Brits sure have a complicated process for repairing outside lighting bollards. I like seeing the Electrical materials that you guys use. Wiring is much different here in the US. Thanks, Russ from Oregon, US -Journeyman Electrician.
Hi Mike, Once again great video! Clearly rectifying the issues with the lights was not an easy task but a top spark makes it look effortless. Talking us through the faults etc was spot on! Keep the videos coming Mike! Looking forward to your next upload!
Nice one using the chisel as a garden trowel🤣would you have gonna an extra step with gelling those whiska boxes. No matter how well those are terminated I do find anything outside, even condensation will lead to corrosion of terminations and shorting out. Real pain when they go under tarmac🤦🏾 Absolutely correct I think the circuit does need more TLC. This is where engineering design really helps because I guarantee anything outside will deteriorate much more.
I was up doing my paperwork just after 6 this morning (Was actually just on UA-cam, putting it off) and briefly saw the video pop up then I couldn't find it again! Glad it's up now!
Nice work Mike very clean and efficient. I reckon the vids help you and make a boring job more interesting. More than that as you talk your thinking more ensuring less mistakes👍🏾
You could have put small fuse carriers inside the plastic box , otherwise one faulty ballast will take the whole circuit out . Street lighting cutouts would have been perfect for this job .
@@residualelectrical putting a rcd onto an outdoor circuit like that is never going to end well with damp conditions. Street lighting should be exempt from rcd as long as you have a good Zs reading and routine maintenance/testing
Corrosion at 41mins is something else. I'm not a sparky and I can make off a SWA, what we're they thinking?! First I've heard of you going out on your own, hope it's going OK.
I started my career in telecommunications, and it's not uncommon to use a TDR (time-domain reflectometer) to tell where a cable fault lies, they can do this by the meter. I've seen very big distribution suppliers using something similar ("thumping" they call it?) but I wonder if any general sparkies have ever used such a thing for these runs where you can't easily determine where a fault lies? Something like the Megger TDR1000?
I had a series 7 driver like the orange one you're using I got mine from a guy from Scottish power where did you buy yours and what's the make ? Cheers again love the content

Is the time clock a normal one or an Astro clock ? reason I ask I had a job where the customer spent daft money getting the main contractor out 5-6 times a year to suit the seasons and summer/winter times. I fitted an Astor clock that shadows the area you are in sunset and sunrise time plus it automatically changes the summer winter times
got a 125 amp commando socket on a pme, they have a fly up to a marquee the total run is 100m or so my commando socket is about half way. a guy got a whack off a metal case of some stage equipment. I'm thinking its difference in potential i'm thinking of ditching the PME at the commando and TT with 100ma time delayed rcd at the commado socket does that sound right scratching my head ha
Not sure if reg's allow it or not, but whoever wired those up did a crap job as they tightened the terminal clamp and steel strands down onto the inner flex cable, they should've used clamp rings, so yea very bad practice either way. In practice BW and CET glands are considered acceptable - in and around Birmingham anyway. You'd think CW's would have to be used for everything outdoors for 230v.
Mike hope you don’t mind me posting this on your video but any sparks near Belfast looking for a good apprentice please give me a reply, my son has been accepted to college and needs an employer , TY 🍻👍
You should always make sure you’re a papered electrician, because if electrics go wrong, they ain’t pinning the blaming on the papered sparky, they’ll come for the unpapered, even if it wasn’t you. What you did might have been excellent work, but the embers can’t witness for your high standard, can they? Get qualified so you ain’t the professional’s scape goat.

Awesome content, man! Keep it up.

Would you recommend that 12V gear? I want to change to it, but worried the combi & SDS wouldn’t have the guts for the job. Love the videos mate
Absolutely loving the videos buddy
Cracking vid as always mate. 👍👍
Where'd you get your work jeans you're wearing in this vid from mate?

Mr Residual... Any advice for someone finishing level 3 2365 and wanting to pursue a similar career path?
Is putting an earth clamp allowed on swa or just bad practice ?
