Mount Ginini is a mountain with an elevation of 1,762 metres (5,781 ft). Home of VK1RGI
I've driven and walked there. Was a hairy drive even without snow/ice. Didn't realise that was a ham repeater there. Stunning views! Bit eery with almost nobody in the village up there.
I really enjoy these repeater repair videos. Thank you very much.
Glad you like them!
Hello from Canada where it has been 32*C+ for the last couple days. :)
Mt Mitchell NC 6,684 feet ... highest peak east of the Mississippi River USA.
Years ago I knew the ham who was a NC State Police radio technician charge with keeping the NCHP Mt Mitchell repeater "on the air." The ground plane antenna consisted of 5 (five) mobile whips with springs bolted to a pipe at the peak. It was the only antenna that could stand the Winter ice storm coatings of up to 18 inches thickness. :^)
Great video mate, now go and break another repeater in another glorious repeater site so you can make another video about repairing it!!!😂😂😊😊
That's the plan!
Awesome work guys, terrific scenery, let's hope the repeaters carry on for a while longer!
I hope so! It was a completely snow whiteout up there today!
Nice work. I've done many Mountain top repeater sites and it never got old..
Thanks
Thanks Chris 👍
Mount Perisher repeater VK2RLJ is at 2010m, highest repeater in Australia.
Awesome I never knew that!
Wow Hayden , amazing location !! Looks stunning
It was really serene and beautiful. Loved every minute up there
You are Brave Hayden
OMG I could not handle that icy cold climate.
Thats pretty remote. Luckily it was an awesome day. Lots of trekking by foot though. Avoid the yellow snow. Lol
Amazing work Hayden!
Thanks!
Best video ever Hayden and great music too. 73, Jamie VK2YCJ
Thanks Jamie, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for coming along for the journey.
The snow on the antenna at 6:10 kinda looked like a koala hanging on for dear life 🤣.
I service some pretty remote repeater sites at the end of some pretty treacherous mountain roads but that site is off the hook.
Yeah mountain goat tracks are fine - but there's a few of these walk to sites around the place
Love your passion.
I know for HF height is a bit of a myth. For tidy VHF & UHF I am sure it is very critical.
Keep up the great work mate.
Outstanding
Have you ever tried a silicone spray on the antenna to keep the ice from sticking?
Problem is it's a dust magnet.
Ready for people to start kerchunking it (;
Hi Hayden, nice work. I used to know the ABC-TV Tx OIC many decades!!! ago. Can't remember his call. Are any of the repeaters accessable from Coles Bay. I get down there a couple of times a year? VK3YF
VK7REC on 146.900 MHz is accessible from Coles Bay. 123 Hz tone... 141.3 Hz tone used to link back to Hobart and Launceston
I like the Zappa line. 😅
Do a video about you vehicle setup 4S7JL
I'd guess that the solar panels face north and the moss grows on every side of the repeater shack?
Is there adequate solar throughtout the year?
No moss, too high and cold. Usually in winter the batteries get a bit low due to poor weather and snow covering the panels
Nice 👍. No worries about vandals?
I the United States we need auto tuning HF mobile antennas like Barrett and Codan. Neither of which can interface with anything other than their own brand of transceivers.
nice looks like fun whats the frequency and tone of the 70 cm repeater vk7rbl its not on the list cheers :)
Formerly known as VK7RBH mate! 438.050 Output, 431.050 Input. No tone required
@@HamRadioDX great thanks
It's the kilos on the front that get you.
i wonder what it would be link to stay in that shack overnight
Да, это хорошо.
Hi Hayden Could you make a video about your UHF-CB band
Just look on google for our UHF CB frequencies. The fundamentals remain the same for that part of the spectrum.
Hey mate, I've done a couple in the past - ua-cam.com/video/6j60bMoLNc0/v-deo.html

Brrrrr!
Who in the world decided to put a repeater that you needed to walk 2 miles to get to? Were you guys walking on a road that you could of used for part of that. Usually when a nice set of cans need to be tuned and I turn the knob, I get a dirty look and am told to be gentle. Your cans don't seem to talk back.
Not all mountain tops warrant a road when they are infrequently visited. Cost.
We started for about maybe 100m on a road... and then it turns into road scrambling..
When there is enough snow a ski-do would make it up the top - I think that's how the last batteries got there. This repeater is right on top of the peak of the mountain. The rest of the mountain has plateau's and valleys - so the coverage isn't good down in one of them.
How did the repeater get there in the first place
whats the name of the mountain QTH ????????
I believe its ben lomond
👀...😍👍
I am from China, this month I bought a solar panel of 550Watts which is 2278mm*1134mm*30mm, it cost me 310RMB,about 43$
Hayden, we might just have to make you an honourary Canuck (Canadian) after watching this video!!🦫
I think it gets much colder in Canada!
thankfully we have no ice here at this time. It's 37 C degrees here.
