People never realized that the song was actually called “ Mercy Mercy Me ( The Ecology) , yes it is a song about the environment, so many people think it is not a thing , but he is right in all the lyrics , and it’s even worse today …
Sweet! Great song, greatest album. The visualizer is a recent addition. Industrial pollution in the US had grown so bad by the end of the nineteen sixties that some rivers were catching fire. Toxic dumping was so bad in some places that children were dying of cancer and worse. Automobile exhaust mixed with fog to create smog, air pollution so poisonous it ruined agricultural crops. This song came out a year before Congress passed the law creating the Environmental Protection Agency (aka EPA) that some politicians today want to dismantle because they simply do not care about the environment and do not want to pay for protecting it and would rather lie to themselves and others about environmental science than admit to their avarice and greed.
What's Going On is one of the all time great albums.
Powerful emotions here! Thank you!
It was a single, but it's best heard in the context of the entire album. Groundbreaking work of that generation.

The way he died, it's very sad.
