One, if not the best in the genre of psychedelic progressive stoner doom. Their evolution is unmatched. Even though sometimes I miss the swagger and stomp of the earlier albums, they are undeniably one of the best bands in recent memory to emerge. All hail The Elder!
This band is stupid good. I mean they really deserve to be mentioned with some of the best. They can hang with the best If it were 1979 or 1992 when rock was the music of the masses they would be all over the radio. This is really a great band.
There are so many bands nowadays that fit this description - but they aren't known by many, because of the music industry's commercialization of art. The silver lining is that you can see really great bands up close for maybe $10. (Or free, if you're also playing.)
Yeah no disrespect to them at all :) I mailed them a while ago to say that Dead Roots Stirring was my favourite albums of the year and Nick mailed me back. Fanboyed a little :)
I know they grew as musicians, but I really love the first album and was happy to find this today. The Dead Roots Stirring stuff sounds great too. I think this is the only live performance I can remember that sounded SLOWER than the album.
Yes, The End is noticeably slower here. They’ve gotten a lot better live over the years, they are still pretty raw here. I saw them in 2018 and they were tight, and Nick’s vocals were pretty decent.
This is my second comment, one of the best things about Elder is that all the musicians shine. It's easy to focus on Nick DeSalvo and give him all the accolades, but really the bass and drums are equally impressive. The way they write their songs allows for everyone to shine. I think that is why so many love TOOL. They make great songs andt all the musicians are incredible. There are so many "meh" bands that replicate other bands, Elder certainly has their own sound and composition style. Elder is easily in my top 5 bands that I love to listen to and never get sick of listening to.
Elder man... starting as pure stoner doom then slowly but surely going to progressive rock. Every album feels slightly different than the previous one yet are similar enough that you can tell it's the same band. Though between the debut album and Omens, the difference is, how do I put it.... it feels like another band. That's how much this band has changed over the years. So fucking hyped for Innate Passage this 25th of november
saw some effects on some photos from concert. try google or flickr. Anyway, i believe (and even saw) he uses MXR Carbon Copy for Delay. A Wah and a Fuzz. That is all you need ;) and a big black amp ! cheers
dahMusicDude He uses a Pharaoh Fuzz, a Z.Vex Distortron, a Carbon Copy Delay, a regular CryBaby, an Ernie Ball Volume Pedal and an orange Boss pedal that could be either a DS-1 or DS-2.
i apologize in advance for sounding like a hipster i love elder and i want them to be more successful than they already are but elder is one of those bands that deserve to keep their relative obscurity from the mainstream crowd
That's still the same song that started at 25:24 ("White Walls"). They always make long songs with loose structures and rhythm changes and lots of different riffs.

Yeah no disrespect to them at all :)

Not even smoking and I Am Stoned!
A lot of memories and joints smoked to this video. Dead Root Stirring is still a phenomenal album. Great band.
Do these guys know (and more importantly, do the record companies know) how much we fucking love their music??
best guitars I've heard in a LONG time. And they make that sound with THREE MEMBERS
Can't wait to see them a week from today (10/10/14) in Philly!
Elder is right up there with Sleep as far as I'm concerned. This is the most exciting "newer" band I've heard since Clutch in the early 90's

Elder and TOOL are my two favourite bands of all time. And Elder is supporting TOOL in January/February. The boys have made it
I couldn’t agree more! Their playing in unison is really impressive and that drummer is an absolute UNIT.
2:57 - Riddle Of Steel Pt. 1
14:22 - Hexe
25:24 - White Walls
34:23 - The End
44:04 - Dead Roots Stirring

Wirklich ein ganz hervorragendes Konzert - und das 13 Jahre bevor ich die Band entdeckte.
08:20 god I love when they jam like that.
Best stoner band to come out in the 2000s, easily.
I feel Stoned......& Doomed.......just listening it !!!!................great stuff !

Does anybody know where I can find any info on the guitar players pedalboard?
saw some effects on some photos from concert. try google or flickr. Anyway, i believe (and even saw) he uses MXR Carbon Copy for Delay. A Wah and a Fuzz. That is all you need ;) and a big black amp ! cheers
There is a wide range of fuzz pedals out there... but thank you! :)
dahMusicDude He uses a Pharaoh Fuzz, a Z.Vex Distortron, a Carbon Copy Delay, a regular CryBaby, an Ernie Ball Volume Pedal and an orange Boss pedal that could be either a DS-1 or DS-2.
When I saw them a couple years back he played a Rat and a Fulltone Soul Bender
As of their 2017 tour, Pharaoh Fuzz, EQD Dispatch, EQD Afternoon, and some more I can't recall (lost the photo) // Sound City 120 -> Orange 412
